    I am afraid to start....

Hello everyone.....I just gave birth to my third child in Feb 08....and we are now done growing our family.  I need to loose about 25 pounds.  I bought Alli about 2 months ago, and so far it has been sitting on my kitchen counter cause i am afraid to start using it.  I even opened it and have since then lost the outter packaging, and can't register online the product...but anyways...i am getting away from my whole point....HA

My point is....i am waiting and pondering and afraid in some way to use Alli.  I do this with every weight loss pill i buy....i will spend a bunch of money  on them and then i willnever use them.

my mom used Alli a while back and i remember her telling me about her loose stools and greasy potty times.  but she was also eating fried southern food!!

So, i think the thing that scares me is worrying about that happening to me while i am at work or something in that sort.

    any advise or help!!

    Thanks for listening!!

Re: I am afraid to start....

I was so scared to start taking the pills too.  Before I started taking Alli I must have posted 3 or 4 messages asking for help too.  I actually have colitis and it doesn't take much for my stomach to act up.  I have been taking Alli for almost 2 weeks now and I love it.  I have had NO effects.

I eat regular food.  By this I mean, I make hamburgers using extra lean ground beef. (I use to eat McDonalds and/or fast food every meal.) I make french fries by slicing up potatoes and baking them in the oven with a little season salt.  I make spagetti..I just leave out the greasy spicy italian sausge and use extra lean ground beef or ground turky and use whole wheat pasta.  Little changes make a big difference.  My husband loves the fact that I cook more now.

I love Alli and recommend it very much.  Look for my recent post ealier today.  I think I called it something like "Only taking Alli about 2 weeks and loving it" something like that. I've lost 1.4 pounds.  That's more than I have lost on any of the other diets I have tried and I've tried several.  Some gave me the shakes so bad I couldn't stand it but most of then just did nothing.

You said your mom was eating southern cooking.  Well I grew up on southern fried everything.  I'm originally from Missouri.  I haven't pushed my luck and tried eating anything like that but I am pretty sure that is why your mom had the treatment effects.

If you work Mon - Fri start on Fri so you can be home for the first couple days.  Or start when ever your weekend would be.  Take your first pill friday morning and watch what kind of food you eat and you should be fine.

Don't let your mom's experince stop you from trying Alli.  It's all up to you and what YOU eat.

Re: I am afraid to start....

You know what?  I was afraid to.  Afraid of treatment effects, afraid of the lifestyle change, and afraid of failing again.  So I had the pills for a while before I took them, and like you, had lost my packaging by the time I actually started.

Why not start the lowfat diet for a week, first?  That minimizes any treatment effects from the Alli. Seriously, I"ve only had one minor issue, and that was caused by me, eating badly.  But ya' know, sometimes you have to give in to a slice of cheesecake so you don't eat the whole thing later!  Unfortunately, the meal before it had been at the upper limit of my fat intake, so the cheesecake shoved me over the edge.

When you do start the Alli, maybe do it on a Friday.  That way you're system can adjust to it over the weekend.  The first couple of days I felt a bit rumbly in my tumbly, as Pooh says, and kind of gassy.  Since then, no problems save for the one I made for myself. :)

You can do this.  Just want it enough to plan for it and read the package inserts before you begin.

    Good luck!

Re: I am afraid to start....

The trick is your first day or two is to follow the alli meal guidelines (fat and calorie use) without taking the alli, then day 2 or 3 start taking it with your meals that contain 6 grams of fat or more, I'm willing to bet you won't have any treatment effects. Your mom had the wrong approach, if your serious about weight loss, it's a lifetime thing...have to commit to eating healthy from now on...sure have your splurges once in a great while, but then get back on track. And remember since you only have 25 pounds to lose, it will take patience, the closer one is to their healthy weight, the longer it takes.

Re: I am afraid to start....

Kendra, you've lost 101 pounds! That's awesome! I'm planning to start taking the pills tomorrow after two days of low fat eating. I'm a little worried too, but also much too unhappy with myself and afraid that I can't do it without Alli, for my worry to stop me. Maybe the other poster who was also afraid to start (Stephanie? sorry I'm not experienced at posting to threads) and I can report back about how our first few days go. Thanks for the info!

Re: I am afraid to start....

I'm new to Alli - I was actually going to start taking it today but I'm afraid to start because of the loose bowel thing.  I don't know how bad that really is when it happens.  I read this and it makes sense to do the low fat thing for a couple of days first and then take the pills.  I am just anxious to get going but like I said the loose bowel I can't deal if it's going to be that bad.  How bad can it get?  Please advise - thanks!

Re: I am afraid to start....

I started Alli on 10.01.08 and I was scared out of my mind. I had my first pill in my hand and couldn't seem to take it. I called my boyfriend and just started crying. I don't know what I was so scared of, but taking that first pill was a hard step to the new me. I have since then lost 22 pounds and 2 dress sizes. I personally have stuck to the plan as much as possible and have only had one treatment effect. And it wasn't as bad as i was afraid of. As long as you work hard, it doesn't have to happen.  It's a hard decision to make and you have to make sure you are 100% involved. If you aren't, it won't work. Make sure you are ready to change your lifestyle. Good Luck!

Re: I am afraid to start....

I am now where you were,  afraid to start.  I'm worried about being out somewhere and having treatment effects. I'm worried I will forget & eat something I shouldn't & have to wonder when the treatment effects will hit. I have over 100lbs to lose but for my health I know I need to to do this & for myself I want to do this & I owe my kids the right to a healthy mother in their lives. Reading that I am not alone is helpful.

Re: I am afraid to start....

     Hi There Seigeneurharris,

I know exactly how you feel. Before I started doing the Alli diet, I did TONS of research into it so that I didn't buy the kit and then decide that it wasn't for me. I have tried a numerous amount of fad diets and "get slim quick" type of pills. You wouldn't BELIEVE some of the side effects that come from those types of pills like heart palpitations, dizziness, jitters, etc. And half if not most of the time, there is NOTHING you can do to control it. With Alli, it's really up to you if you have treatment effects. If you stay away from high fatty and greasy foods and commit yourself to eating healthy lowfat foods, you shouldn't have any treatment effects. I'm in the same boat, I need to lose about 105 lbs to be at my goal weight. I have two beautiful boys both under the ages of 2. I'm tired of not being able to run around and keep up with my oldest and you know how active 2 year olds are! If you want to start taking Alli and need a support person, I would love to keep in touch with you. It seems like we both are losinig just about the same amount of weight for the same reason. Please let me know, good luck and don't worry!

    -Jamie
