    water aerobics for bad joints

I have a public pool near my house and would like some information on some low impact water exersises for me to do there.

they do not have any classes for water aerobics.

I'm 62 and have 2 bad knees a bad back and 2 bad shoulders.

I started Alli 2 weeks ago and have lost 1 pound. I weigh 168 pounds.

    Thanks

    Claudia

    Hi Claudia,

    Congratulations on your weight loss!

Adding any kind of activity in the pool will benefit you with your overall fitness level and with weight loss.  Basic movements and exercises are all you really need to benefit from your sessions.  Things like: walking forward and lifting your legs slighlty higher than normal, walking sideways crossing your legs, walking backwards, performing jumping jacks, etc.  The link that Mrs Buckeye included in her response offers some good basic ideas for exercising in the pool.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

Re: water aerobics for bad joints

    Hi Claudia:

I had knee surgery in 2005 and it wasn't until i started working out 4 - 5 times a week at the gym did it start feeling better.  I find the more i go on the elliptical machine, and then go for a swim or do some type of water exercise, like jogging or running through the water, my knee is feeling much better.  When i don't go to the gym after a couple of days my knees get stiff again, and hurts, but as long as i do some type of exercise that are light on your joints, it feels better and better. I weigh 262, and I am starting alli on Monday, June 23rd, but won't start the alli pills until Friday because I don't know how my body will react to them.  I hope it doesn't give me any problems because I do have IBS already, and I don't need something that may give me more diarrhea problems.  Anyway, I think you should work out at the gym, it makes you  feel wonderful.

Re: water aerobics for bad joints

    Hi Debbie.,

Great advice.  You're right in that the more you can do low-impact exercise (even stretching, Yoga, etc.) the looser you feel and the better those injured areas feel.  Once they tighten, it takes a lot to get back to feeling comfortable, and can start a vicious cycle of not working it because of it.

Welcome to alli and I hope the program works out well for you.  The pills are an important factor in the plan and your overall weight loss, so if you are hesitant about taking them, I recommend you speak with your doctor or inquire about IBS and alli with the online pharmacist. Keep in mind that treatment effects do not happen with everyone and can be avoided or reduced by sticking to the allotted fat grams per meal.

    Good Luck,

    Paul
