    Oatmeal with fresh fruit ideas

    This is something I actually crave daily.  Sometimes I'll just have it for a dessert.  I take regular flavor (organic for me) oatmeal and put whatever fruit in there I want.  You can use the normal bananas, strawberries.. but try canned or fresh peaches (you have no idea!), blueberries, raspberries,  apples, cherries, pears... really anything! 

    People dont think about how artificial the fruit they put in the flavored kinds really are.  Growing up my favorite flavor was the Apples and Cinnamon with the little chunks of dried apple.  Now I cut up my own and its like a whole different world.  The flavors explode and its a natural sweetner.  I'll never buy the flavored kind again.  And for a breakfast your getting a very low-fat serving of grains and fruit that fills you up.  Plus kids love it.  I was a nanny for a family and the first time I made it for the kids they begged seriously everyday for it.   Its good stuff!     That sounds really good.  I make the old fashioned oatmeal (can't stand the instant type).  I always put raisins in my oatmeal and have never thought of other fruits.  Now, if I can only get my hands on some fresh strawberries!

    Strawberries are only the beginning!  Seriously, put apples (really good), bananas, peaches!  Peaches are really awesome.  Blueberries and raspberries are good too.. try it all..   Remember you can do this with cold cereals too.  I always put some type of fruit of my cereals... Anyway truly enjoy!

    Hey everyone!

    I am new to Alli and this is officially my first post!  I just wanted to share how I like to eat my oatmeal.

    I take plain whole oats, not the instant, and eat them raw with milk, cinnamon, and equal.  It's quick since you do not have to cook them and really yummy too.  I ate them alot like this back when I was on my super strict eating heathly regimen and exercising 5 days a week.  It helped me loose 50lbs!

     My Favorite Fruit oatmeal breakfast is with 1 small granny green apple chopped, a sprinkle of no salt shaved almonds sometimes I add strawberries.   If I crave a little sweet tooth, I sprinkle one packet of splenda and a pinch of sea salt.  I cook the oat meal plain with no salt and with water. I never grew up eating warm cereal made with milk.  So, I guess it depends on what a person is use too.  But, I agree that fresh fruit is the best in oatmeal. I always purchase the old fashioned version.  I never buy the instant. I try to stay away from instant to avoid any hidden salt.  I think the plain is the only one without salt. not sure. :)  -prada08

    These are all great ideas!  There are so many benefits to oatmeal and with the colder weather approaching it couldn't be more satisfying.  Hearing about adding the fruit is every dietitian's dream comment from a comsumer.  You each have added a new dimension!

    Let me mention that oatmeal doesn't just have to be for breakfast!  I'm a big believer in non-traditional eating: turkey sandwiches for breakfast; oatmeal (or other cold cereal) for dinner.  We all have different schedules and different times of the day when we're more hungry than others.  And we should listen to those messages and eat accordingly.

    Finally, tossing in some walnuts or almonds is a good way to boost the fat, if you need it.
