Aside from the effects of alcohol by itself, I won't take any artificial sweeteners. And without debating whether or not the body breaks aspartame down into ammonia, synthetic sweeteners at least give a false sense of security. Drink enough saccharin, e.g., and you get just as many calories as from your usual sugary drinks. I prefer taking liquor with pure water; no extra calories. If I wanted to get loaded faster, Gatorade may be a good mixer. It was invented to draw water into the body system 4X faster than drinking pure water, quenching thirst faster. With its combination of well-proportioned natural salts, it literally is "artificial sweat". My only question is: Does alcohol impair the absorption of vitamins into the body, as Alli admittedly does? Is this effect exacerbated by taking Alli with alcohol? Anyway, yeast buds eat sugar and break it down into alcohol and carbon dioxide. That is how fermentation in wine and the rising of baking bread happen.
