    Newbie-First Day

I have officially hit rock bottom. I never thought I would need to use pills to lose weight, but I am spiralling out of control and can not stop myself. This is my last hope. The past 2 years have been really difficult, and as a result, I have put on about 25 pounds. Five years ago, I was struggling with a few pounds of vanity weight. Now I am suffering the daily distress and humiliation of being strangled by my clothing all day, or worse, having a closet full of clothing that doesn't fit. Can you call out of work "fat"? That's what I wonder when the only outfit I can squeeze into is at the dry cleaner's.  I used to be very social, and now I find myself avoiding all contact because of my weight. I do not go out any more and I feel to fat to go to my local gym.

Although most of the storm has passed, I can not seem to get back on track. While I used to work out daily, lately I can not seem to get motivated to even walk. I feel overwhelmed by my current situation and I do not know if I can ever get back to me. I sincerely hope that this will help me get my life back.

    Re: Newbie-First Day

I was having a very down day.  Then I read your story and thought of something Bob Green said.  "Being thin doesn't bring you happiness.  But happiness sure can make you thin."  It is so hard.  But I am going to try to get excited about losing weight and getting strong.  I hope you can do the same!  I started Alli last week.  But I haven't even walked yet- absolutely no energy. There is a local fire and the smoke outside is horrible(my excuse this past week).  I will walk in place in front of the TV for 30 minutes and it would be great if you started out right by committing to walk.  This is my second time needing to lose weight.  I lost 60 pounds 9 years ago.  I kept it off until last year(quit smoking).  So here I go again-I need 20 pounds off this time.  I do have a suggestion about work.  If you can afford it.  Try and get just one or two pieces that fit good and are neutral.  I know that it will be depressing to try them all on, but it is worth it.  It will make your life less stressful and you will feel better about yourself; which will ABSOLUTELY  help you lose weight.  Trust me, it won't bother you at all when you have to get rid of the "bigger" clothes!!!!!    I sincerely hope that you find the inner strength to get excited and motivated for beautiful things to come.

    Hi Abenham

I fell off already. How is that possible? I was doing better before I started taking the pills. I appreciate your kind words. This is burying me and creating sadness. I am trying to love myself now as I am with all this fat attached, but looking added makes me depressed. I have to find a way to get motivated. Good luck on your journey. You sound further along than I.

We all struggle here and there, but we get back up and start back over. It's all about commitment. I am 210, your 211, I set a small goal for myself of 10 pounds, how about you try with me?  I started Alli on Tuesday and my weigh in is on Tuesday.  We are not that far from being under 200 pds. After that we can try a goal of 5pds or more. We can work together.  Not only you hate looking at the fat on your body.  I also do, but I'm trying to make a change.  I hate the fact that I can't buy certain tops because of the gut that I have so I now am trying to make that change and make a difference in my appearance as well as health. You can do it! Stay motivated and stay in company of motivating people.  I hope this helps.  Remember, YOU CAN DO IT

    Re: Newbie-First Day

I really hope that you were just having a bad day and you are back on your mission of creating a healthier you!  Yesterday was a bad day for me!!!  I didn't even take my pills, pigged out at a cookout, and drank a few sweet mixed drinks.  I am not futher on my journey.  I just started last week.   I had to go out 2 weeks ago and buy my bigger summer wardrobe that I pray I can get rid of in the near future.  I didn't have one pair of shorts that I could zip up(very depressing). I remember the feeling of success and pride that I felt when I lost that 60 pounds 9 years ago. So while I had an awful day yesterday, I am getting back on track today.  Please try to do the same.  There is so much in our lives that we can NOT control.  This weight loss thing is something that we can have control over.  Please find the strength to give it another try.  Please just do your best for two weeks and you will start to feel in control,  Forgive yourself if you get off track and do not give up.  You deserve to be happy and healthy!       Angie

    Re: Newbie-First Day

Can I join you two?  I'm just starting tomorrow.  I'm at 206 and I also set a goal of 10 lbs. to begin with. I think the hardest part for me is going to be making low fat dinners that my husband and kids will like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would love to be part of support group, I think with a little encouragement we can all do it!

     Hi Kim and Jasma,

Welcome aboard! The more the merrier. I really think this online support idea is wonderful! I have just started and already I needed someone to help me through the struggle (thanks angie and lovin_lyfe08). I am amazed at the effects of a little encouragement. I do not have that in my life right now and it hurts. However, thanks to motivational and inspirational words from kind strangers who share my struggle, I am back in the saddle and ready to beat this thing. I hope that in a moment of doubt I can be there for somneone else. Good luck on your journey. And remember,  YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

    God Bless

    Re: Newbie-First Day

Could I join, too?  I have struggled with my weight since childhood.  I've found it grew with me and followed me all the way to high school.  I finally went on Weight Watchers and lost 50 lbs.  I have gained more than half of it back since being off of WW.  I've tried to eat right and get exercise but nothing seems to move more than 5 lbs here and there.  I figured with Alli I could finally get back down to a healthy weight.  I suffered a minor injury recently that prevents me from doing the simplest of things like standing long enough to cook a healthy dinner.  It gets better each day, but in the meantime my weight has climbed higher.  I too was once over 200 lbs (210).  You can do it.  Making healthy eating, keeping a journal and consciously making an effort into a habit really does pay off.  Please don't get discouraged, you are not alone in your journey.  If you get side tracked forgive yourself and get back on.  I've learned that much from dieting most of my life.  Enlisting the support of friends is especially good for moral.  Eating healthier is not as difficult as it seems.  I've found that when I do eat a lighter meal than the people I'm with I don't feel so gross, sluggish, and bloated.  I have energy and am ready to go and do an activity.  Restaurants will assist you by suggesting healthier alternatives (Olive Garden is the best at this, which is a good thing since I LOVE Olive Garden).. I just thought of this... creamy is meany... veggies are friends.  Corny, I know, but it might help someone out one day.

     Hi HBarron,

Welcome aboard! Thanks to the wonderful people here I am staying the course and even seeing minor results (I am too afraid to get on the scale yet), but my tummy is flatter). Perhaps this was just what I needed. Good luck on your journey.

P.S. Thank you for the  Olive Garden tip; I love their salads.

    Re: Newbie-First Day

     Hey Team,

I can not find a way to communicate to all of you at once. Does anyone know if it is possible to create a group on this site?

Well, Week 1 is over! I loss 3lbs. Although I am happy that for the first week in a long time, I haven't gained any weight, I must say I am a bit disappointed. I worked hard this week and did cardio 5 days this week, so I thought I would lose more. Hopefully, next week will bring more progress. I guess I am more than a little impatient with my weight. I am trying to learn how to settle myself and patiently ride the wave.

Does any one know if there is a difference between eating the pill at the beginning , middle or end of the meal? When is it most effective?

I hope all of you are doing well on your journey. You are more powerful than pain..

    Re: Newbie-First Day

    Hi t.q.s (and the others!),

I'd love to join this team. When I first read your opening message I thought you were reading my mind bc that's how I was felling some days ago until I decided to buy Alli and get serious about dropping 22 pounds of fat that is preventing me from wearing all my clothes in my closet! I so relate to you when you say you don't go out bc you're feeling fat and also apparentely nothing fits. I'm there too. I'm a mother of two boys and I'm finishing a doctoral degree that has consumed three years of my life and added those horrible extra 22 pounds around my body. The weight piled up bc I spend my days wearing scrubs that feel like pajamas so I've let myself get comfy and fat in them. Today I've starting eating more low-fat foods and decrease the portions of my meals. I'll start taking the pills next Friday, just to prevent some of the side effects.

About losing just 3 pounds this week, I wouldn't be so discouraged t.q.s!! When you drop pounds slowly, it means it's pure fat that's being burned; when the pounds are coming off way too quickly, believe me, it's pure water and some swelling that are coming off and not actually fat so the steadier you  drop the weight the better! We are all here for each other and I would love to be part of this group and hear kind words from you all. Wish me luck!

    Re: Newbie-First Day

I too would like to join this group. I started on the pills last week and so far I feel good. I have not had any side effects. I would love to lose about 20 lbs. right now 5 would make my clothes feel better. I have gained 20 lbs since 2006 and hate myself for it. I have been going to curves since March of 2007 and have shaped up some and have lost about 7lbs. I feel better for that I have also lost some inches. I did not change my eating habits so I did not have the weight loss I had hoped for. But now I am ready for a change!!!!!! I am hoping that with curves and Alli and a change in eating habits I can reach my goal of some day seeing 150 again. This morning I weighed 179 ugh!!! I have never been a small person so I am not expecting a miracle. I just what to feel better about myself.

Good luck to all of you maybe if we stick together we can reach our goals
