Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

    JakesMommy:

I am doing WW points and Alli I just want to know how the others who aredoing this combo of WW & Alli are doing? I been a little confused lately if I am going to get results w/ Alli using the point system I doubt I am getting the 19g's of fat Alli recomends I get in a day let alone a meal... I just need to know how yall are doing so I can determine if I need to try the MyAlliplan fat and cal counting or stick with WW's since it is so familiar to me?

     ~Dottie

Hi :)  And to answer your question, I've been on WW since April 7th, lost 19 pounds and plateaued for three weeks.  Decided to try alli (again) to break my plateau and I started on it last Monday afternoon.  It worked beautifully!  I stuck to WW all the way, and not only did I finally crack 20 pounds but I lost 7 lb this week.  Sounds like alot but it still gives me an average of 1.67 lb per week loss since I started back in April.  This gives me a total of 26 pounds - yay!

I think the WW plan works beautifully with alli.  I'm logging all my foods on paper (instead of using WW's online food tracker) and the only difference in eating I've noticed is this:  I have to spread my fat intake out over my three meals, rather than saving up for dinner.  It was a bit of an adjustment the first few days but I've got it now.

I don't really use the alli meal plans at all, except for ideas for things to add to my menu.  And the beauty of all of this is that if you faithfully limit your sugar intake, and your fat intake, and watch your portions (all biggies for me), it seems the calories (and the points) take care of themselves.

    Hope this helps.

    Cari

    Re: Enough fat?

    chill04:

I too am statrting this diet plan. Ive been taking it for about 2 weeks and havent weighed cause my scales are broken

How are your clothes fitting you?

Sometimes my scales can be so discouraging.  But then I notice my clothes fit better :)

Funny, cuz they will say I haven't lost any weight... I know I exercise more than I used to and I have a tendency to get real muscular so I have to keep reminding myself that it's probably going from fat to muscle, and muscle takes up less room & weighs more than fat.

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

I wasn't noticing much oil in my stool but well today I experianced a little bit of TE's and I am not sure what exactly they were from? Some days I go all day and end up w/ remaining points at the end of the night I need to use cause if I don't I guess they will work against me so I was told? and others I have to break into my weekly alowance last night I had enough points and didn't need to go over but my meal was 18g's of fat and I was sure enough I was gonna have the Te's last night went by and after I had a crazy peanut /almond/cheeto binge tisk tisk I know! I ended up having some TE's nuts have a lot of fat so I am unsure if it was dinner the night before or the snack session! I guess I need to remember how not fun it is to have to wear a pad on your butt!

     Dottie,

One of the nutritionists for the site wrote that the pill is for two hours. So it's any fat eaten during the two hour period after you take alli.

    Re: Enough fat?

Hi Chill04, have you taken your measurements? That's another way to know you progress, measure your forearms, waist and thighs once a month. And what someone wrote about how your clothes fit also is a good way to see your progress.

No fun at all. I had one episode it lasted for about 16 hours.. and it was horrible... its a very real reminder to stay on track (even though I didn't get off track - see Mayo = Bad)...

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

    Hi Mary,

Just add taking the pills with your 3 main meals to tracking your points. TE stands for treatment effects. That's discussed both in the materials that come with the alli starter pack and here online, so curious looking around might help you out. If you eat more than 15 grams of fat at one meal, you could have bathroom issues. Anyone following Weight Watchers is not eating any meals with that much fat in them except if they are binging and not eating what they know is right. If I get stuck eating somewhere that I can't control what I have and I know/think it has too much fat, I eat less or skip the alli for that meal because I don't want TE's. This is just healthy life, not about being sick or uncomfortable rushing to a desired number on the scale: it's about my whole life eathing right and exercising. The concern for treatment effects helps me pay attention and I have chosen NOT to eat the candy, cookies. chips or what-have-you that I would usually eat even though I didn't want to and felt bad about it.

I have plenty of WW material but am not currently attending meetngs. I have financial concerns and this is my support group. I don't track food or exercise on the site, but do check in every week. I find the alli support system to be extremely helpful. I like the info in the steps I get each week after checking in and like watching the videos. When I bought my starter pack I had no idea the help I would get along with the pills and am very pleased. If you want to use a tracker form instead of just a steno pad or other plain paper and you didn't download one while an online WW member, you have a couple choices at dwlz.com and several other sites. There are also points values for food at this sight. The food journal at mealsmatter.org has all the selections (exchange) boxes and is clear, simple. I still think in terms of selections because I don't want to use all my points on potatoes and meat and no fruit if you catch my drift, but help to ensure I eat a balanced diet. I am currently learning to pay attention to fat grams on top of points/selections. Also, I have a points calculator on my google home page, you can get a google account for free and search for the widgets related to diet. I am having phenominal success in this, my most recent effort to get back to my weight goal. An average of a pound a week is progress extrordinaire, much better than I ever experienced prior.

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

I've never attended one meeting nor been online but I have done Weight Watchers point sytem through my sister who went to the meetings I had her pick up a starter kit for about 25 dollars I think and then I bought a calculator that counts the points I just enter points after I turn it on and it adds it all up if I know the cal. fat and fiber it gives me a # and then you are allowed so many #points per your age, height weight and how active you are I enjoy WW's and Alli together just gives my weight loss an extra boost! I haven't been calculating my fat and cals or trying to hit the goals I just been watching my points I only had TE's AlliTreatment Effects once and it was just the orange oily discharge I made it to the bathroom and never ruined any of my panties Thank God but after seeing my weight loss this week I am glad I chose to buy Alli and partner with Alli Good Luck to the rest of you

    Re: Thank you

I had a headache for almost a whole day unusual for me but it ended up subsiding after I took some Tylenol after a while I never realated it to the Alli but IDK it's gone now and hasn't been back maybe it has to do with caffine or sugar?

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

    Hi Dottie,

The points system in WW includes all sources of calories not just from fat.  Regardless you need to stay close to your target in any program, you are looking for gradual and steady weight loss.  If you go too low in your calories you trigger starvation mode in your body which then causes your metabolism to slow down in order to conserve the calories.

Treatment effects will occur after eating excess fat within 2 hours of an alli dose. Depending on how fast you normally digest food and have a bowel movement it can take up to 72 hours for an effect to occur, for the majority it is 24 hours.

    Good Luck.

    Re: Thank you

    Hi Angie,

Alli is not associated with causing headaches.  Any time you consume something new a headache is possible.

A change in diet, which includes a reduction of calories or the elimination of foods that contain caffeine or sugar, is noted to cause a headache.  This symptom goes away after a few days.

Any headache which is persistent or severe needs to be checked out with a physician.

    Hope this helps.

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

LOL on the pampers comment, Dottie! My experience is that TE's happen soon after I eat the meal with too much fat. I don't have more than one meal like that in a row usually. I see that one of the site nutritionists has replied about how long after the meal one might get TE's so you could be right about your own experience of how much time goes by. Hey, I've dropped another pound. I sure hope this shows up on Sunday when it's time for my check in. I'm having great success with my plan!
