Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

     Hello everyone.

So glad to have found this thread.  I started WW (again) about 1 month ago and decided to add Alli to the plan about 1 1/2 weeeks ago ago.  At my weigh in last week, I stayed exactly the same to the ounce.  I was quite confused since I knew that I had only about 11-12 grams of fat or less per meal and about 1500 cals for the day.  I am anxious to see what happens with this week's weigh in since prior to using Alli I was losing about 2-3 lbs. per week.

After reading all of your posts, it appears that it really is key to hit the fat target; which according to the Alli materials is about 19 grams of fat per meal based on my height and weight.  That fat intake seems a little freightening to me though since I keep everything at about 12 grams of fat or less.

I am up to making any necessary changes though, so any suggestions?

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

    Hi,

I couldn't possibly get by on only 1500 calories a day. My body would think I was starving it and jam up my metabolism! I don't really track fat because it's accounted for in Weight Watcher points, as long as I make sure to eat more fruits, veggies and whole grains and less of the fatty foods. I've been losing about a pound a week doing what I'm doing, which includes daily exercise. I've definitely not raised my fat intake just to hit that 19 number. That would be going in the wrong direction. I think the fat gram target is for the people trying to get down into a healthy eating range. And it will be lowered after a few weeks on plan. And notice the literature warns of TE's if eating more than 15 grams per meal so their target is outside of the no "effects" range...This is just what I think and what works for me.

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

I have been on the WW plan for a while and have lost a total of 40 pounds but was getting to a point where I wasn't losing so tried the Alli and had a 9 pound weight loss after 8 days. But I know for me I only get 25 points on WW so that equals about 1400 calories a day and I never seem starved, thus I stay well within the fat gram intake for the day and I have never had a bad experience.

Best of luck to all of you who have just started -- you are well on your way to a healthier you!

I am also using WW to manage my food.  Points are easier for me to manage than counting calories.  I just started taking Alli 3 days ago.  So far, so good...no side effects.  All is well...can't wait to hear if anyone else experiences quicker weight loss using Alli and WW combined.

I have been on WW for a month now and have only lost 4 lbs with exercise and eating right.  I have a total of 20lbs to lose although I would love to be 30lbs lighter...one step at a time.  I just started Alli today so I am hoping it will give me a boost.  I work out at the gym 4-5 days a week combining cardio along with weights.  I do sprints which my personal trainer suggested as it burns calories even after you stop working out.  It involves 1 minute moderate pace
2 minutes fast pace, 1 minute sprint pace on any machine you like, whether it be the treadmill, bike or elliptical.  He swears by it so I've begun doing this in the last week and lost 2 of my 4lbs just this week!  I am getting really excited that I might finally start seeing results between diet & exercise and alli.

I would be curious to hear back from some of you who posted early July to see how you are doing with WW & Alli.

     Angie,

Funny you should mention that...I have a headache today after starting Alli - I also notice I am more thirsty than normal and I consume a lot of water anyway - does anyone know if Alli make you crave water more than normal which could cause headaches?

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

I've been on WW since January, with major slips on and off plan as life threw me curves. But I'm down 10 lbs from where I started. I tried Alli when it first hit the OTC market, but wasn't really ready to commit to low fat at that time and had TE's. After being on WW for this long, I feel like I'm finally comfortable eating low fat and it can work for me this time and help kick up my weight loss a bit.

I am up to 60-90 minutes of cardio a week, strength training 3 days a week, drink my water and eat my fruits and veggies. I'm at 23 pts/day. If I can just stick to it, I know I can drop the weight.

Took my first Alli today. I'll let you know how it goes on WI on Friday.

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

I'm starting to get bummed out.  I have been on Alli for about 3 weeks now and have been using it in conjunction with WW.

The first week my weigh in results were exactly the same to the ounce.

The second week my weigh in results was a loss of 1.6 lbs.

Today, the third week my weigh in results was a gain of 2.6 lbs.

I have been doing WW for some time now and prior to using Alli in conjunction with the program was losing about 2-4 lbs. per week.  I was eating about 1500 calories or less for the day and about 12 grams of fat or less per meal which was well within my 35 daily WW points.

After reading last week that it is very important to try to hit your fat and calorie goals as established in the Alli program pamphlet, I decided to increase my fat and calorie intake to match the Alli program and still stay within my WW daily points.

So now I am more confused than ever about this WW and Alli combination.  Please help!

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

Hi, I'm in a different points range than you, but I did not increase my fat intake to get up to the maximum recommended by alli. If I did, that would be actively and deliberately overeating fatty foods which I can't see as being right. I still think that target is for the people trying eat less and get down into a healthy range. I have consistently lost the equivalent of a pound a week and this is incredibly fast, never been able to do it before. I know I eat too much fat still (which is why the pills help me). I still think in terms of selections (exchanges) in order to work on using points more on fruits, veggies and grains, less on the foods that are fatty, sugary or more processed. I also, very important, have finally managed to get my body moving. I started out with setting the timer for only 5 minutes and when I got that down, increased it so that I'm walking/yoga/exercise dvds--anything to be moving--for a minumum of 30 minutes a day now. I've lost 13 pounds in about 2 1/2 months and am very pleased after years of being a slug, going in the wrong direction and seemingly powerless to stop it.

I hope you work out your particular mix that is effective in your case. The alli and accompanying plan really gave me the push I needed and I wish the same for you. You might try the forum where you can ask the nutritionist questions...

Re: Just bought my alli today..doing WW and exercise...

    Hi Hharrison,

I understand your confusion, but do have a couple of questions.   You have been steadily losing weight with WW on 1500 calories a day, other than increasing the fat grams per meal did you also increase your daily caloric intake or are the calories the same, more coming from fat?   12 grams of fat per meal as you were doing previously to Alli is right within the range and you need not have changed.

    Best of Luck.
