    Advice Needed

I just started this diet two days ago on the recommendation of my doctor and I am working hard to create menus I can eat and yet stay within the plan.

I keep Kosher (no pork, shellfish, bottom feeding fish, meat and dairy mixed in the same meal, etc.); I am allergic to all dairy, mushrooms, and certain spices; and I am hypoglycemic. Now you can see why I am struggling with the menus.  I am entering the ingredients I use to substitute for dairy, such as soy milk and soy yogurt, and recreating your menus with the ingredients I can use.  Many times I have to omit an item or two from the preprinted menu and it is a real pain to go back in and recreate it, line by line.  Is there some way that a person can substitute ingredients instead of entire menus?

I'm not complaining -- just looking for a shortcut. I have already lost two pounds and I haven't been feeling as tired as I usually do, and my sugar level has been fairly steady.  Only once did I get so low that I got the shakes, and I was late on a snack.

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: Advice Needed

    Hi LAM,

Welcome on board!  Congratulations on your weight loss!!  You are off to a great start.

To answer your question about your menus, I can certainly empathize with you...I worte many of the menus and it took me almost a year!!!  I believe there is a way toy make substitutions in the menus versus re-creating a new menu every day!!  If you go to my preferences, you can enter most of your likes and dislikes before your menu is created, resulting in a more realistic menu for you.  Also, I will recommend posting your question to the alli administrators so they can guide you with the process as they are more familiar with the details of the program software.

I will recommend entering your food intake into the nutrition logs (found at myalliplan.com) so you can get your daily nutrient analysis and stay right on track with your recommendations - you will love this tool!!  Hope this helps.

Let me know if I can be of any further help to you,

Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, MS, RD, LDN, CPT - registered dietitian
