    Zoloft

Hello.  I have been on Zoloft for 1 year due to post-pardum depression.  I have tried several times to lose some weight and have only been able to lose a few pounds total and then got discouraged.

I have been on Alli for 3 weeks now, and lost 4 pounds.  In the past, when I was not taking Zoloft, I was able to lose about 2-3 pounds a week, so my weight loss has slowed quite a bit.  Is this because of Zoloft?  I am not looking for a "professional" answer, just opinions or feedback from anyone who is on Zoloft or another antidepressant.

    Thanks so much!!!

     hi greengo12,

i don't have any experience with anti-depressants. except for knowing a couple people who have taken them. i know that these types of medication can cause weight gain, but, because my friends who have taken them have never tried to LOSE weight, i don't know if they can hinder weight loss. i do know, though, that your body changes (as I'm sure you know) after you have a baby. it is harder to lose weight.

it may be a combination of the two things. i can't be sure though. keep trying. there is nothing wrong with four pounds in three weeks.

    :-)

    Re: Zoloft

I think most anti-depressants have a "retain weight / gain weight" issue !!  I know when I was on Welbutrin years ago - that was the issue with that - along with my stynthroid, I was doomed with my weight !!!

It's best your weight comes off slowly anyway - better chance of keeping it off.

    Hi Greengo12,

Weight gain from medications is a very popular topic in my field. Obviously, the medication that someone is taking is needed so not taking it because of the weight gain is not an option. For anyone who believes that their medication is contributing to their weight I recommend that you speak with your doctor and/or pharmacist to see if there is any other alternative. Here is a good article for you about antidepressants and weight gain http://www.webmd.com/depression/features/antidepressants-weight-gain.
