    Post surgical activity

I have just had my Achilles tendon reattached and cannot put any weight on that foot for at least one month.

I am trying to do upper body exercise but don't expect to be losing any weight until I can walk and dance.  I will

continue taking the capsules and using the eating plan.

    Re: Post surgical activity

     Hi Doris,

I'm sorry to hear about your achilles, but at least once the area is healed, you should be feeling much better.

Even though you can't place weight on that foot for one month, continuing with upper body exercises (check out the strength training exercises recommended on this site) will indeed help you to burn calories and fat and lose weight.  The more lean muscle mass you have, the more you burn - all throughout the day.

You may still be able to try swimming and aquatic exercises because you are boyant in the water and not placing any great pressure on your feet, but it depends on your situation and if you cannot get the area wet.

In addition to swimming, you can also try the upper body ergometer, in which you only use your upper body to perform the cardio.

Of course check with doctor on all of these things.  Start slowly and stop if you feel any pain.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

    Re: Post surgical activity

    Hey Doris!

I am kind of going through a similar issue currently and also in the past. Not the same surgery but I was in a bad car wreck and shattered my knee. They had to do a full lower knee replacement and I couldn't put any weight on my leg for 11 weeks! I love doing pilates and found some of the older methods that were made specifically for bed bound patients and only did the upper body and limited lower parts. It at least gave me something to do and I did loose a little bit of weight.

I also  had to have a LEEP done last week to have several places taken off my cervix and I can't do any streneous movement or I start bleeding again. I'm not really even back to a point where I can do the pilates, but I'd love to know if you have any really low impact exercises you have been doing.

    Good luck!

    Erica
