    Stationary Bike Question

I jusr bought a stationary bike at a yard sale.It has handles on it that move back and forth so i have been doing the bike 20 minutes a day so far plus walking a mile. The question i have is doing the bike i am working my legs and arms does the bike use any other muscles such as stomach? I have been on the Alli since 6/18/07.I have realized i cant just come home and sit and read or be a couch potatoe.I do some form of exercise every day now.And Paul if you read this i still a slow walker but have cut my mile down fron 45 mins when i started to 20 mins. While i walk i do 2 little jog runs of about 20 feet The grannies still leave me in the dust LOL.But i love walking out side.

    Re: Stationary Bike Question

     Hi Linda,

Cycling is excellent exercise and yes, it does incorporate your upper and lower body as well as your core.  Be sure to maintain good posture and pull from your abdominal muscles as you pedal - you'll get a great ab workout that way.  Obviously, depending on the amount of resistance you are using, the muscles in your legs can also really be challenged and you can help develop some serious lean muscle mass that way.

Because cycling can also be a great aerobic workout, you're burning calories and fat, which is helping to slim your body down everywhere - not just in the aforementioned targeted areas.

Interms of your walking time - good for you!  Cutting your time in half is excellent, you've made some terrific progress.  Keep challenging yourself to add in those jogs - interval training burns massive amounts of calories and fat.

Keep me posted on your progress, and let me know if I can help any further.

    Good Luck,

    Paul
