When a recipe calls for slivered almonds and you only have whole almonds, simply use a food grinder to chop them up, or use a knife and sliver them yourself. Then measure out 2 tablespoons with your measuring spoons. If you for some reason cannot do this, a good rule to follow is just a "palm-ful" of nuts is all you need for a healthy serving of good fats!
