    how much?

Hi all...I just recently started taking alli 4 weeks ago...the first 2 weeks didnt go well for me as I got a visit from my Aunt Flo for the first time in months...the past 2 weeks, eh, okay...as of yesterday I was down 6 pounds.  Anyways I am posting because I have a very obsessive personality... between the birth of my son and my new daughter I lost over 82 pounds because I obsessed over every tiny piece of  food (as in literally starved myself).  So I am trying to do this the right way with this post pregnancy/post breastfeeding BUT my husband seems to be concerned with my exercising...I am currently walking 2.5 miles in the morning, doing Tae-Bo's fat blasting cardio in the afternoon, and walking an additional 2.5 to 3 miles in the evening (I am a SAHM).  Is that too much?  Some days I do feel tired but I am cleaning, cooking, doing laundry, and tending to kids and my husband which can be stressful some days.  I am comfortable with it right now and kinda actually think mayhaps I should be doing more as I have not seen the scale move that fast with "all that exercise".  I am just trying really hard not to fall back to being over critical on myself for every thing I do, i.e. what I put in my mouth, excersize, what I look like, etc.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...I tend to blow off what my husband says LOL just cause I know he loves me just as much being heavy as he does me being thin!

    Thanks in advance,

    BJ

    Re: how much?

I am not a professional, but I think that might be a bit much.  I don't know how you do it though.  I have two kids and I barely find the time to get in 30 minutes...but I do it!

    Good luck!

    Re: how much?

     Hi BJ,

    What is a SAHM?

I'm not an expert either, but it seems a bit much to me too.  Walking every day is fine, but from what I've read, you need to give your body a day of rest in between workouts.  How about doing the Tae-Bo every other day instead of daily?

I'd have to call myself a bit obsessive to when it comes to following the food plan and making sure there aren't any hidden calories or fat grams in what I'm eating.  When it comes to being overly critical of yourself though, that's the time to put on the brakes.

I read a lot of posts, and many of us are seeing only a pound a week come off, sometimes less.  Yet the inches are reducing at a very pleasing rate.  Muscle weighs more than fat.  Some of your initial substantial weight loss may have been water.  Set realistic goals, maintain a slow and steady weight loss pace, and don't beat yourself up.

    Best of success to you!

    Mary

Mary SW: 169.0 (6/18/08) CW: 141.0 # 28 down, 6 to go. Yea!  This is starting to sound really do-able! Goal: Size Perfect or 135 whichever comes first!

    Re: how much?

    Hi BJ,

Thanks for writing and welcome to the alli community!

From what you've told me about your tendency to be obessive/compulsive or have an addictive-type personality, I would say that you're exercise program does raise a red flag.  Ideally, you should be working out on most days of the week for 30-60+ minutes per session.  It is perfectly fine to work out 2 separate times per day, as long as they are not both high intensity or long-duration exercise sessions and that you do not do this chronically.  In other words, it is fine to walk 30 minutes in the morning and then another 30 in the evening; or walk 30 in the morning and then perform Taebo 2x per week in the afternoon.  It can be counter-productive to perform extensive-duration exercise (cardio) on a regular basis, especially with no rest days in-between.

I would encourage you to try to take it down a notch, if possible. Exercising too much can be just as damaging as not exercising at all....it just isn't as noticeable! Begin to fill your typical "extra" workout minutes with other worth-while activities, such as reading time or quiet time with your kids, baking a neighbor dinner or writing some "just because" notes!  This will not only make someone else feel great, it will also begin to fill you with joy and contentment with who you are as a person... and not just what you look like!

Do your best to focus on the positives about yourself... such as the fact that you have a great husband, two wonderful kids and that you are strong and healthy!

I encourage you to continue to exercise...and yes, you can push yourself and make your workouts count.  You can even workout 2x per day....BUT, not EVERY day and make sure to make at least one of those days a day off!  Completely off!

Best in health to you and keep me posted with your progress either on this forum or on the "Discuss your concerns with a specialist" and click on the "fitness forum"!

    Your friend in fitness,

    Kelli
