    Going Downhill

     Hey everyone,

I am just finishing my third week.  The first week, I lost five pounds.  The second week, I lost one.  I really tried hard. I exercised and did everything right.  I was sooo disappointed to lose only a pound after all that hard work.  Now I am afraid that I am losing all my gumption. Even though I haven't horiblby blown things, I haven't done as good as I should the last few days. I take synthroid for my thyroid and am wondering if that is part of it .  I also wonder if I am doomed to be like this regardless of how hard I work . I hope someone else has felt like this and can help me through.

                               Thanks Jodi

Don't give up.  You should feel proud of the weight you have already loss.  I have been on Alli for 6 weeks and lost 6 piunds, so you have been on the plan for less time and lost more weight.  Just keep at it.  You may not lose 5 pounds every week, but even 1 pound gone is a great accomplishment.  Hang in there!  You can do it!

     Hi Jodi

You've lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks, thats something to be proud of!  Dont give up, a healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week, and as you get closer to your goal, it will come off slower.  You are doing great!  Hang in there.

     Hi Jodi!

There is a great post about hypothyroidism under the "Want to Loose 50-100 Pound" board.  You may not fall into that category but it's good information.  Everyone I talk to who takes thyroid meds says that it is very hard to loose weight.  But NOT impossible.  I take 100 mcg of synthroid daily and it has taken me 16 weeks to loose 14 pounds.  It's slow but it is happening.  Don't give up!  We can do this!

    Re: Going Downhill

Hang in there Jodi!  I know just what you mean.  I dropped 8 lbs my first week, four my second, and have slowed to one pound a week for my third and fourth.  Chin up.  Every pound we lose is an ugly pound of fat off of our rear ends. Ever seen what a pound of fat actually looks like?  If not, go to google image and look it up.  It's a sure way to feel good about that pound.  That's what I do when I am down about just losing a pound.  Besides, let's not forget that 1 - 2 lbs a week is actually the safest way to go.  Here's another thing to think about: exercise builds muscle and muscle is heavier than fat, so you may have lost more but built muscle. It could be water weight if you have had too much sodium or you haven't been drinking enough water. You may want to start taking measurements.  You'd be surprised how many inches you can lose and still not lose much weight.  I can't tell you if it has anything to do with your medication because I know nothing about that but I wish you all the best luck though.  Remember, a pound lost is better than none.  It may be a slow journey but you'll get there.  I have faith in you. ^_^

sw: 470 cw: 455 (15 lbs of ugly fat gone! W00T!) gw: 447 (just the first of many.)

    Re: Going Downhill

Unh unh Jodi, don't go there.  The only thing you'll accomplish by going downhill is getting to the bottom of the slope.  That isn't what you want.  People usually lose the most weight the first week of any diet, and it's usually just water.  Just think what would happen to you if you continued to lose six pounds a week - in a year you would have lost 312 pounds (although you would probably be dead).  We all get anxious to lose all our weight right away when we make up our minds to diet, but that isn't what this is about.  This is about making permanent changes, you don't have to give up everything, but you do need to make up your mind that you are going to eat healthy for a lifetime.  Then just sit back and take notice of how much better you are feeling, enjoy watching your clothes get looser, enjoy looking at new healthy recipes, enjoy the education you're getting.  See this for what it is, and don't get hung up in an anxiety attack.

    Good luck,

    Judy
