    Alli and no gallbladder?

I just purchased Alli and I noticed a warning with regards to your gallbladder.  However, I don't have my gallbladder anymore. Does anyone know how this will effect me?

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

    Hi,

It is recommended that you check with your doctor prior to alli use if you have had gall bladder disease in the past.  Some people who have had their gall bladders removed have a problem with digesting food as well as absorbing all nutrients.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

I don't have a gallbladder and I don't have the absorbing problem.  I do found that there are "trigger foods" that would cause a TE anyway without the Alli...  For me it is gravy but I have heard of other such as butter, ice cream or salad dressing.

I got the green light to try it, but my dr wants some blood work when I hit the 1 month mark just to check things out.  I am so overweight that absorbing things is not really the problem.  I find that on the Alli I have new trigger foods (Mayo = BAD)...  But everyone is different.  Just don't be too surprised if you get TE when you didn't exceed your fat grams per meal (Again... Mayo... Bad... at least for me).

Good luck!  Either way, I think the website is awesome and I like that I can log all of my food and exercise and it tracks it all.  I just print the summary and hand it over to my Dr. once per month.  It is a good thing to work with your dr (I hope yours is as supportive as mine).  I am 1 week in and 4.5 lbs lighter!

    Hope that helps.  Good luck!

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

    Sophia,

I had my gall bladder removed nearly 18 years ago.  Do I still need to be concerned?  I have had no digestive problems since that time.  I've been taking alli for nearly 3 weeks and have lost about 13 pounds.  I have had no treatment effects, thank God.  In fact, the first couple of days I started taking alli, I didn't have any "movements" at all.  Things are back to normal now, and I "go" without any problems.  Any additional advice you'd like to add?  I'd be glad to 'hear' it.

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

I thank you for the info. Unfortunately, my doctor does not believe in any type of diet supplements so, he probably would not be too helpful. I dont have much trouble digesting food however, there are certain types of foods (inccluding salads??) tht I may eat and I have to get to a restroom within 15-20 minutes of eating. It comes on with strong urgencies at times and I have to move fast to find a restroom. However, it was worser before they removed my gallbladder. It only happens now with certain foods but,  the food types can change. It is not always with the same type foods each time.  It use to be with everything I ate (before).  I will most likely have to return Alli back to store. I know my doctor will be against it and not approve me using it.  I have tried all the regimens and tips he gave me but, it doesn't work. Again, thank you.

Frankly, I'd be looking for a second opinion :-)

I'm with her I would look for a 2nd opinon.  I mean it is one thing when you have tried other things... This is working for me and I am getting results.  I would think about it more (maybe see another dr.) and make an informed decision.

    Good luck!

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

I thank you all for your advise. It has been over 2 years since I've had my gallbladder out.  I think i will go ahead and discuss with my Dr. and see what he thinks about Alli. Hopefully, because it tells you to eat certain foods, he may like it. If not, I will get a second opinion.  Alli seems to be the next best thing to surgery (lap band, Gastro..) and I don't want to go tht route.  I hear alot of good thing about Alli and really want to get started. I currently have TE now without being on Alli, due to my gallbladder being gone but, since I am use to it I'm sure any TE's I would get from Alli, I can probably handle them.  Thank you all again and I congratulate you and wish you the best..

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

    Hi,

As long as you are not having any issues with food digestion and are taking a multivitamin which has the fat soluble vitamins you should be fine.

This program is about adopting healthy lifestyle habits, which include eating healthier and exercise.  Weight loss, especially reducing your body's fat % which help you lead a healthier and more energized life.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi,

It is recommended to check with your physician prior to starting any weight loss program especially if you have had gall bladder disease in the past. Many people who have had their gall bladders removed may be left with difficulty with food digestion.  A primary concern with Alli is healthy weight loss as well as complete absorption of all your nutrients.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

     Hi,

I had my gall bladder removed in May of 2005.  I use to experience a sudden need "to go quickly" 10 to 15 minutes after I ate.  I discovered that those sudden needs to go came about whenever I ate a meal that contained a lot of high fat and spicy foods.  Salads were the worst for me because I used a lot of salad dressing.

Before I started using Alli, my doctor prescribed Orlistat and suggested Alli.  After researching the two, my choice was the least expensive.  When I started using Alli I weighed 245, in less than a months time, I am now 232 pounds.

I have learned to exercise more. Due to RA I can't do any physical activity that causes too much pressure on the joints so I walk almost daily.  I found that using the nutrition log, reading labels, and taking the Alli with each of my 3 meals, I have no sudden needs.  I haven't had any treatment effects.  My husband started the Alli program with me.  He is severely overweight too.  Along with diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholestrol.  He has only had treatment effects once and that was because he ate a bag of potato chips.

I haven't taken any of my arthritis medicine since taking Alli, I feel great.  My husband who was once insulin dependent has been able to regulate his blood sugar without the use of insulin, his blood pressure is lower, a lot lower and best of all WE ARE LOSING THE WEIGHT!

I know that most doctors would not approve of not taking medication, but I feel great and I am going to be a lot healthier thanks to Alli and not a bunch of prescription medicines that even when I take them I still don't feel any better.

For me, I love it and I think you will also.  Don't make any excuses, you have the product just use it and you will be satisfied with it.  This is the only diet that I have ever been able to stick with over the last 10 years and I've tried many.  The support is great , the weekly check-ins are done in the privacy of your own home, and you will lose the weight and feel better in many ways!

Sorry for the personal testimony, but I couldn't resist!

    Re: Alli and no gallbladder?

Thank you Vanessa and everyone else again, for your advise. I will not be returning Alli. I will be starting it. I have already started watching what I eat in order to get ready for this. Besides, with all the bathroom runs I was getting prior to my gall bladder being removed and the "every once in while" ones that I get now, I should be use to getting any possible TE's. I wish you all good luck and I can't wait to begin. Thank you!!
