    Friday 8/8, Saturday 8/9, Sunday 8/10

Greetings!! Friday night we had severe thunderstorms that apparently fried our internet wiring and a technician repaired it today.

Cardio -  25 min elliptical with THR - 1 point
    Weights - 30 min - 1 point
    Nutrition - 1630/43 - 1 point

    Friday - Total 3 points

    Cardio -  0 points
    Weights - 0 point
Nutrition - Since the internet was down, I didn't use Alli's site to track and I didn't really manually keep track either (amazing how dependent I've become on using Alli's system!)

    Saturday - Total 0 points

Cardio -  35 min elliptical with THR - 1 point
    Weights - 20 min - 1 point
Nutrition - 1930/59 - 1 point (Who knew that Starbucks "lowcal" frappuccino had so many calories in it!! I've got to read the label on items that are new to me before I consume it instead of just tracking it afterward!!  What a concept!0

    Sunday - Total - 3 points

Carol - You and I really don't live that far apart and the weather has been terrible for walking (lots and lots of thunderstorms here plus the usual heat and humidity!) ... my hat's off to you for sticking to your walking routine.

Brittany, Kathy and Melissa - Thanks for the congrats!

Sharon - Congrats again on another lb.

Everyone - Hope you had a great weekend!

    Re: Saturday & Sunday

    Hi everyone!!

I just realized I haven't reported for a couple of days, not that I have much to report.  :o(

    Friday - 1 point
    Cardio - yes
    Weights - no
    Nutrition - no

    Saturday - 1 point
    Cardio - no
    Weights - no
    Nutrition - yes

    Sunday - 0 points
    No comment!!

I have many excuses but none of them are worth posting other than I need to be kicked in the you-know-what.  So girls give me a kick!!!

The only thing good from last week was I finally dropped off my plateau of many weeks and lost a half pound. Not much, but I'll take it.

Sharon - congratulations on your weight loss success.  That's wonderful!

Patti - how are you doing?  We are all thinking about you.

Carol Joy - yes we all miss you!

Jane - yes, the weather has been horrible lately.  It is so hard to get out when it could be raining or sunny at anytime.  There I go again, another excuse.   Do you exercise indoors or out?  Florida is so pretty most of the year (even though hot), but the sky is always blue and if you are near water, it really makes for a beautiful setting for walking or what ever.

    Have a great evening!

    Carol

Carol - We live about 5 miles inland.  There's quite a few lakes and ponds near our home but nothing as dramatic as the Bay or the Gulf.  I probably actually only get to the Gult to walk on the beach 3 or 4 times per year.

In the summertime, my exercise is at least 90% indoors; in summer, I'll take an air conditioned gym any day! I do actually walk in Sarasota "running" errands on my lunch hour (walk to the hairdresser, walk to the dry cleaner's; that sort of thing) even in the summer.  In fall, winter and spring, I like to walk outside with my husband.  Since my left ankle isn't stable (I wear a sport-support type brace all the time), my balance is poor, so my walking outside is limited to sidewalks in good condition and very well maintained paths.  This week, I'm going to Pennsylvania (mostly to visit sick relatives, but I will get in some R&R!).  My sister in Pennsylvania tells me that they have a nice trail laid out with small pebbles as the base, she says it's not uneven and it's not hilly, so it sounds like an environment that's more natural that I can walk on.  It should be less humid in Pennsylvania and this trail is surrounded by greenery so I'm looking forward to that.

Despite the summer heat, the trade-off with nice weather the other 9 months of the year is well worth putting up with the miserable heat for a couple of months (it beats 3 to 5 months of near zero temperatures in my book!!).

    Re: Saturday & Sunday

    Hello Ladies,

Since I'm unable to do this challenge I've started my own challenge.  So far so good.  My challenge for this month is to be able to lift my leg while I walk and to gain a couple of pounds.  My appetite disappeared and I couldn't bring myself to eat for a week or more.  Needless to say, I dropped a lot of pounds and now I need to gain some back (I look like a walking skeleton).

To date I have gained one pound and I can lift my leg while I walk.  I begin physical therapy on Tuesday and am pretty excited about learning some new exercises.

I hope everyone is doing well.  I've been keeping up to date with everyone's challenge posts.  Go get 'em, ladies!

    Cheers,
    Patti

Hey everyone! I have internet access again!!

    Monday, 8-11, 1:00pm

    Hi everyone!!!

I have not had AT&T internet connection since my first post here last Monday!! I have yet to read all your posts, but will do so right after I post this.

I called Carol to ask her to let you know what was happening...hopefully she got the message to you all. I didn't mean to abandon ship on ya, but neither of us (hubby and me) had any internet connection on either of our computers. I have a tech scheduled TODAY in 1/2hr, and just left a message not to come here. At $125/hr, I hope he gets it in time!

Anyway...I will read your posts and track the points for week 1 as well as catch you up on my first week too!

Missed you all and hoping everyone is still playing along!

Re: Hey everyone! I have internet access again!!

Hi again! SO GOOD to be back with you all!! I reached the office of the IT tech repair man I use and hopefully he'll collect his message before he arrives; if not, I'll be charged $50 for a trip charge!!  He is pretty cool and we've used him atleast 5 times this year as my computer is ready to hit the big tech-graveyard in the sky any minute now!! Apparently, my husband sent an email at AT&T reporting he could not send any email to either of our home computers from his office computer. So they decided to close our accounts and re-establish NEW accounts ONCE he accessed them and gave the 'ok'....well he was out of the office for 3 days and never got his email until he checked his computer. So he got his all set up this past Friday night, but mine wouldn't connect! I guess once I sut it down, it re-booted and when I turned it on today, POOF!!! Internet access!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW....is that the most boring post you've read since being an Alli member? LOL! Sorry.....

ANYWAY...I cannot get over how LONELY it is without the support of this group! I felt isolated and unmotivated! I missed the daily contact as well and felt like I just lost 11 good friends! I guess when I DO get to my goal weight, I'll still never be able to leave this website!! haha

I am happy to read so many good reports! I am still waiting for 5 people to post their days so I can give you a weekly total of points earned. This is all the peeps that heve reported all 7 days thus far:

    MESSAGES:

    Jane....
CONGRATS on your 2lb loss last month and your 1" off your waist!! HOORAY! Good girl!

    Kathy...
Congrats on YOUR 2.5lb loss during last months' challenge!! Hoo-Rah! See Sharons' post in regards to THR please.

    Jayne....
New photo my dear? Your hair looks darker and no specs!! Looking good AND thinner too!

    Sharon....
yes, BP does alter your HR... but you can use the RPE monitoring method (Ratings of Preceived Exertion) to check how hard you are working out! Same goes for you Kathy! Read the explantion below AFTER the remainder of these messages.

    Carol...
okay girlfriend! I am going to bust your chops 'cause I know you would want me to!! Do you remember the swanky little cruise you are soon to take? Remember you'll be wearing a bathing suit?? How about all your new clothes you'd like to sport as well? You are SO CLOSE to your goal...this is NO TIME to fall into bad habits and laziness!! You picked me up when I was low last fall, YOU were an example to me of percervierence, commitment, and a "can-do" attitude!! Where is that now? You get yourself back into gear honey or I'll have to fly there and personally train you myself....THAT will NOT be fun...lol!!!! Come on now...do it!!!!

    Patti...
So good to hear from you! I am sorry to learn of your tough first week. You MUST eat honey or your body cannot get strong enough to build itself back up!! Good on you for having your own personal challenge!! I know just how much you are able to do, so I know you can do this too! Get better REAL soon dear!

For Kathy and Jane (and everyone else that either cannot, will not or doesn't want to bother with taking their HR! p.s. Certain meds DO interfere with max HR and thus and accurate THR is difficault to assertain.

    RPE: Ratings of Perceived Exertion

Developed by Borg, this scale provides a standard means for evaluating a participant's perception of his/her physical exertion. The original scale was a 6-20: the revised scale is 0-10.

*Definition from the ACE (American Council on Exercize) Personal Trainer Manual

    How to do RPE:

0   = lying on the couch, doing nothing but being a potato!
10 = running for your life!!!!

You should judge if YOU are working out at a level somewhere between a '7-9'.

This is a simplified explanation but it will suffice. The caveat is you MUST be honest with yourself! If you can sing, you are NOT working out hard enough! If you can carry on an easy conversation...better work harder! Can you only talk in chopped up, breathing-hard, words? You ARE there!

So to Jane and Kathy, this should do the trick! If you do this during your session (that means, rate your effort level) you can then count yourself the 1 point!! Hope this helps!

I am so proud of you all for taking this week seriously!! Thank-you for keeping the thread alive!

My weekly summary post will be next!

    Have a GREAT week 2!!

Re: Hey everyone! I have internet access again!!

Hi Carol Joy!  I've missed being with all of you these past 3 weeks.  We just got back from our two weeks Eastern Europe riverboat cruise.  While the places we saw (Budapest (Hungary), Croatia, Belgrade (Serbia), Bulgaria, Constanta (Romania) and finished up in Bucharest) were quite interesting (a history lesson in itself), we will not be doing any more summer time trips to Europe--it's just too hot!  I really did better then I thought with the heat--though not great and my back, also, gave me problems.  There were many highlights to the trip but there were also some downfalls.  Don't think we will be doing any more company tour guided trips again as we really do like exploring on our own and felt we didn't have enough time to do that.  Caro Joy - Would you please sign me up for the September challenge (hope there will be one--I want on!)  Hopefully, I will be up for the next challenge.  Hope everyone is doing fine--I'll have to go back and read the posts after I get caught up on my return trip chores.  Thanks, Lynn

    Reporting for Monday, Aug 11

Cardio - 25 min elliptical and 10 min treadmill with THR - 1 point

Weights - yes adductors and abductors - 1 point

    Nutrition 1600/68 - yes - 1 point

I logged on and enjoyed reading messages from everyone including Carol Joy, Patti and Lynn.

Lynn - A hot day in Europe on vacation is better than a pleasantly cool day at home!! We were suppose to leave for Europe in Sept 2007 but the end of my fibula (knob on the ankle) cracked about 2 weeks before we were scheduled to leave, so instead of going to Europe,I spent 5 weeks in a surgical boot.  The doc wouldn't let me take a 7 hour flight because the confined leg was at risk for blood clots.  I still haven't made it to Europe.  With the Euro sliding against the Dollar, I reminded my husband that it's time we dust off our plans for that trip.  Your trip sounds very nice ... glad you did well physically ... that can make such a difference.

Patti - Well, at least your worst fear of gaining back the weight certainly seems pretty remote at this point!!  Maybe your post-surgical pain meds are messing up your appetite?  Hope you continue to improve; it sounds like overall you're doing pretty well.

Jayne - I noticed the new picture, too, and I agree with Carol Joy, you look great.

Carol Joy - Thanks for the congrats.  I'm not opposed to taking my heart rate but I have trouble doing it.  I do take a blood pressure med but it doesn't affect my heart rate.  As I understand it, my pulse has a "gallop" which means I have a harmless heart murmur (I've been checked to make sure it's not serious).  Since my pulse isn't regular, it's hard to count it.  I can use the read-out on the exercise machines to get the heart rate at the gym.  I bought the watch with the heart rate feature to help me tune into the perceived rate of exertion when I do some type of exercise (like walking) that doesn't give me the "gym machine" read out.  I do feel the relationship between the target heart rate and the exertion level.  Just prior to starting this challenge I used the Alli fitness advisers.  Kelli recommended that I spend more of my cardio workout at a higher rate of exertion so this challenge tied in perfectly with my new goal.

All - I'll try to post tomorrow night.  i'm going to Pennsylvania to visit sick elderly relatives - I'm leaving on Wednesday -and hopefully I'll have a little R & R.  I'm not sure how often I'll get a chance to post.  Instead of meeting relatives for a meal, in some cases, I have exercise planned with them so I'm looking forward to that.  If i don't get a chance to post while I'm on the trip, I'll post next Tuesday night.

    Jane
