Help! I'm not hungry any more.

I started the alli program July 4th at 202 pounds.  GW 150.  I reached my first goal of -10 last Saturday and was delighted until I realized I would have to do it all over again, four more times.  Oh well.  I peeked at the scale, saw another pound bit the dust and now I'm over that and working the menus again.

Here's my dilemna: I'm not hungry and can't finish what's on my plate half the time.  This is very strange to me because I know myself best as a sugar and choco holic who eats HUGE portions of most anything.  At first I found measuring and weighing my portions a little scary because I was sure I was going to be hungry all the time.  But by using the nutrition log I found I could eat 6 times a day if I wanted -- three meals and three snacks.  I should also mention that I have to delete/substitute ingredients because I keep Kosher, have food allergies to dairy and other delicious things, and I'm hypoglycemic.  Thank goodness for that nutrition log! (But couldn't tech make it so we can just eliminate ingredients if we don't want to use them?)

Anyway, for the last week I have only needed to eat three meals and one or two snacks. Today, though, was different. I had the almond bagel spread thing for breakfast with coffee instead of the milk.  That was fine. No am snack.  I went out to lunch to an Italian reasturant, took my friendly blue pill, and ordered bow tie pasta with maranara sauce and about 4 ounces of grilled chicken with a bread stick. I ate the bread stick but could only eat half the chicken, pasta, and sauce.  I wasn't too concerned, came home, and adjusted my nutrition log accordingly.

No pm snack needed.  I fixed whole wheat spaghetti, 4 oz of turkey meatballs, and broccoli. I took the Alli pill before I sat down to eat. But again, halfway through it I was full and couldn't eat any more.  When I readjusted the nutrition log I saw I was way low on both calories and fat.  I spent 20 minutes looking for something that appealed to me but found that most of my former snacks had been replaced with low or no fat items. I looked at the single serving of chocolate hot fudge lava cake that you can bake in the microwave. It had 12 grams of fat.  I could have eaten it but I DIDN'T WANT IT. I finally settled on a serving of vanilla wafers and 8 oz of chocolate soy milk.

At the moment, I think my total calories for the day is 1200 (should be 1800) and my fat is 33 grams (should be 60). I've taken all three pills. I'm not hungry.  I know I'm supposed to have the recommended amount of calories/fat. Recommendations? Has this happened to others and how did you handle it?  My blood sugar has been stable but on the low side.

Sorry this is so long. When I start writing there's no holding me back!

Re: Help! I'm not hungry any more.

Maybe you are thinking about what you are eatting way too much?  I wish I had that problem.  How much water are you drinkin during the day?  That helps to make us feel full.  I hardly ever reach my 1600 cals and my 90grm of fat intake for the day.  But, still I only lose about 2 lbs per week.  Or I go for a few weeks not losing anything or gaining.  I feel like I have to exercise all the time.  And I feel guilty if I do not do any exercise.  Do you feel that way too along with your not wanting to eat?  I know I stress on the new healthy me so much that I over do it.  I just want to reach my goal weight so bad.  I can see what I want to look like and I get frustrated often.  But, I press forward everyday.  I have days when I feel like I just can not get enough to eat.  And then on some days I just have to make my self eat.  Right now I have a summer cold.  So I really am miserable.  My son is a Marine and in Iraq.  The list goes on, I think stress has a lot to do with how our body reacts.  Any ways.  I wish I could help you.  I am here for you.

Re: Help! I'm not hungry any more.

Hi, This is my first week, but not my first time on the program.  I am experiencing the same type of problems as you are as far as not wanting to eat all that we are allowed to eat.  I do think it is important to eat at least 5 fruits and vegetables per day because it is good for you and keeps your body healthy and not so hungry.  It is important that you try to get that nutrition in to your body.  Are you exercising?  Exercise can make your body burn more energy and require you to eat more to keep it going.  This is my first week and I have not begun to exercise yet.  I know when I do I will be more hungry then I am now.  If you are doing mild exercise you might want to consider kicking it up a notch.  Listen to your body.  It knows when it is hungry and when it is full and you are doing well with that.  Just be careful to eat healthy food not just food that is full of empty calories and no nutritional value.

I am glad that I came back on the program.  I stopped a few months ago because of my over scheduled lifestyle.  I stopped making time for me and now that I have put all the weight back on and have stopped exercising I can no longer keep up with the lifestyle that I started.  I overscheduled myself because I was losing the weight and feeling like a million dollars.  So eventually I slowing gave up on what got me there in the first place.  Now that I know what I did wrong I hope that I will be able to manage over doing it in the future.

Take Care and good luck to you.

Re: Help! I'm not hungry any more.

Kimberley, thanks for the support.  I am partially disabled, so my exercise is on the low side but fairly constant. Y'know, I was pretty sure I was going to show a 3 pound loss after that week of not being hungry but instead I gained three pounds. Talk about depressing!  But it must have been the phase of the moon, or hormones, or water retention, because just 24 hours after that weigh-in I'm down two of those three pounds. Go figure.

Bless you for having your son in Iraq.  My thoughts are with you.  And a summer cold on top.  Thanks again.

Ror4500, thanks for the support.  How are you doing so far?

I'm keeping on, keeping on and my appetite is coming back.  Something funky was/is happening to my system because I gained 3 pounds overnight, then lost two the next day. Wild.  I shouldn't depend so much on the scale, but when those numbers go down it inspires me to keep going.
