    Wii fitness and Activity Log

I have a treadmill, and a Bowflex and while currently I do Yoga a few times a week, all of this gets boring. I have a Nintendo Wii, and I was wondering if anyone has used this for exercise and if so how do you calculate it in the activity log?

    Many Thanks

    Michael

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

I am fairly new at Alli and haven't figured out the logs and journal yet, or really put the time in. I have a wii and love to bowl and ski. It takes away boredom. There are so many things out there to do, I am starting to put aside the time for myself. I feel that Alli is working for me. A friend of mine is a trainer and told me to just walk, slow, then fast. Just to get moving and get feeling better. Wii is pretty good about keeping track and giving rewards.    Have fun and good luck!

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

I haven't been posting any of my activity in the logs, if I can get the activity in, I consider that a great accomplishment and don't worry about logging it.  I do have a Wii and have the Wii Fit program.  I think it is a wonderful source of exercise.  It has cardio, strength training, balance exercises and some yoga.  It is tons of fun and will make you sweat while entertaining you at the same time!

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

I've been using the Wii Fit since the end of May. When I first started using it and trying to enter it into the alli activity log I was puting in each of the strength training exercises that I could find a catagory for and the cardio under aerobics. Then I would just log in the notes that I used it for X amount of time total.

There is a whole group of us using the Wii Fit and posting about it under the 40-something forum. I love using it because it really helps tone those muscles. :)

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

I havent been able to get a Wii fit because they are always backordered but I have been using Wii Sport to exercise. A hospital in Cleveland did a study and found the same amount of calories burned from 30 minutes of boxing (real life) and boxing using the Wii fit. I know it gets my heart rate up. I also walk, elliptical and stationary bike at the rec center but I love the Wii for a break in my routine or as a second workout for the day because it is so much fun.

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

I would like to say that I just love Wii Fit. We've had it for about a month, but didn't start using it until this past Sunday. After the first three days of using it, and not having a "real" diet, I lost 3lbs. doing the Wii Fit for an average of 30 minutes, rotating through all the different catagories (I love the Hula Hoop balance games, and the skiing balance games), last night I played for over an hour. I was greatly disappointed in myself because my weight went up .2lbs. I then remembered that I had gotten Alli before we moved, so I went and found it in one of our boxes and have begun taking it today. I am looking forward to seeing results from Alli, Wii Fit, and the help of a more balanced/healthy diet.

I also am looking forward to sharing with anonymous people, and giving/recieving encouragement from you all.

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

Carole, I've had a Wii Fit since May 2008 and absolutely recommend it as a great way to exercise and have fun. :) My hubby bought it for my birthday because I really wanted to try it out and have something different than exercise DVD's, which don't really work for me. The exercises are fun, you can compete against friends or family, and you can mix up your exercise as much as you want. The first week I used it I didn't drop a lot of pounds but I noticed a lot more toning of the areas I was working and I wasn't having trouble with sore muscles.

The game starts you off with just a few games in each catagory - Yoga, Strength, Aerobics and Balance Games. As you play you open up more games and levels. It keeps track of your scores in each game so you can compete against yourself or other family members or friends. (There is a Wii Fit group in the 40-somethings and we post scores from time to time.)

Both of my kids have played the Wii Fit. They had fun for a while but with school, work and lots of activities its hard for them to do it much. I'm really the one who uses it the most, which is okay with me.

There are new games out that use the Wii Board, so its not just for the Fit program anymore. I recently purchased Jillian Michael's Ultimatum Workout 2009 which uses the controllers and board for some pretty strenuous cardio exercises. I'm sure there will be even more games developed to use the board as Nintendo works on getting people moving with their games. :)

Re: Wii fitness and Activity Log

I  mostly do the strength moves and the yoga. The yoga because I have something to make me hold the pose the right amount of time.  Since you don't use weights on the strength moves you are mostly just using your body.  The plank pose is a tough one.  I'm up to 90 seconds holding steady. I think of the wii program as more toning.

It does have my weight 10 lbs less then my scale shows.  I thought maybe it was the carpet but I brought my scale out there the other day and my scale shows the same weight as it always does.

I do some of the aerobics.  The mileage on the free run is way off.  It had me doing 2.7 miles in 20 minutes. Years and years ago when I ran 10k's my best time was a 10 minute mile, no way I did better then 8 minute miles jogging in place so take those numbers with a shaker of salt.  The advanced step is fun.

I got another wii workout program just to spice things up.

I think it's a good item to add to your arsenal.  I bought mine on Amazon.

There is a ski program on the balance games.  It is fun and I'm glad I got it.
