Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

    Hello Everyone,

I just started today on the program. I am 32 y/0, 5ft 2in and weigh 162.  I had a baby 5 months ago but I never lost the weight from my 3 year old. I have been so angry with the way I look and feel. I started weight watchers 3 weeks ago and gained 2 pounds.....I might be the only one who has gained weight on WW, which led me to ALLi. My doctor recommended it.  I am a little nervous because I planned my meals last night and my diet does not contain a lot of fat????? I am wondering if this is just going to be a waste of money for me.

Anyone in a similar situation or can someone tell me that they have lost the weight in a similar situation.

Re: Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

I had to laugh about your WW experience.  This past year I have been attending WW meetings and I am currently 1/2 lbs less than I weighted one year ago when I first joined!  I actually gained about 7 lbs this year while regularly attending meetings!  Believe me you are not the only one.  The good news is I too added Alli to my WW program.  I've lost 9 lbs in 7 weeks-nothing fantastic, but it beats gaining!  Anyway, about your meals.  I too always ate a very low fat diet on WW.  When I started Alli, I actually had to go out and buy some foods that had more fat in them.  I work very hard to get all my fat in-I never before ate 15 grams at one meal-I probably only had 20-25 fat grams all day.  I am finding that getting all my fat in is actually helping me to LOSE weight.  It is very important to get your fats in for the pill to work.  I also find that I am much fuller now that I am getting the right amount of fats in my diet.  My dad is diabetic and the Alli plan is very close to what he has to eat as far as carbs, protein and fat grams go!  So I know this is a very healthy way to eat.  Good Luck!

Re: Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

     Hi!

I just started yesterday after being on WW since Oct 2007. I lost 40-45 lbs on WW, but have lost nothing more for 2 mos., so I decided to try Alli to get going again. It's hard to get in the right amount of fat after being on low fat plans in the past, but I'm trying. I use canola or olive oil and almonds to help get it in. Breakfast is the hardest, but it's only my 2nd day, so I'm sure it will get easier. I read on other posts that you must have at least 5 g of fat in your meal in order for Alli to work, but to try to get close to whatever your target is for optimum results.

Good luck - we can do this!

    Diane

Thanks for your comments.  It is helpful to hear others going through similar situations or has gone through. Good luck as well.

Re: Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

I too have a 3 year old and a 1 year old.  I totally understand your predicament, my baby weight did not MIRACULOUSLY melt off while I breastfed, OR while I ran with both kids in the jogging stroller (screaming all the way!)  It's totally frustrating to see my other mom friends lose their weight almost effortlessly...  Of course it's just as frustrating to watch them effortlessly parent their well behaved children, while my little devils are breaking everything in sight!  In spite of becoming exhausted just chasing them around,  I really recommend joining a gym that has a kids club.  At least you get a precious hour each day to yourself, even if it is spent in torture on the treadmill or in the pool.

Taking Alli has helped give me that 'extra push', which I needed even though I've been dieting, swimming, running and lifting weights.  Losing weight is a SLOW process.  The thing is, I've lost only 15 lbs but I fit into my pre-baby SKINNY jeans of 40 lbs ago... so SOMETHING good is going on.  I think I've built up more muscle.

Good luck with your efforts, and with your little ones!

Re: Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

This is my second week and I will tell you that it takes some getting used to.  I think we've all been practically brainwashed to thinking that you have to eat less to weigh less but that's not the case.  This has been the hardest thing for me to adjust to and I'm still working on it.  For the first few days, I think I was eating about 7g of fat per meal because I just couldn't get it in my mind that fat isn't really the enemy here.  As the week went on, I gradually started adding more healthy fats into my meals and by the end of the first week, I had lost 3 pounds.

Just do your best to stay close to your calorie goal and your fat goal and you should do just fine.  If you eat too little, then your body could go into starvation mode and store everything you eat as fat.  If you eat too much, then you may experience treatment effects and, of course, overeating isn't going to help you lose weight.  Don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day and always reward yourself when you accomplish your goals, even if it's just a goal to drink 8 glasses of water a day or whatever.  We need positive reinforcement to keep us going, so give yourself a pat on the back for even starting this program!!  You can succeed and you will succeed.

    Best of luck!!

Wow it sure is good to hear that others are feeling and thinking the same way as me.  I just started yesterday too and was shocked to see how little I've been eating.  I barely eat any fat.   So I guess I'll have to indulge a bit!

Re: Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

     Hi Jennifer,

I started using  on the nutrition log and it was an eye opener. I put sliced almonds and walnuts on my shopping list. If I am going to eat some of my favorite low-fat cereal and a banana w/ 2% milk for breakfast, I add a couple tsp. of almonds and it get some fat in there.  I know I can't wait till dinner to get all my fat grams so I decide ahead of time to add them in even if it means a peanut butter snack. Ha. (Also see the MUFA info elsewhere on the message boards.)

I was losing on WW too, but the meetings were inconvenient and the leader wasn't doing a great job. It was an adjustment to count calories and fat grams instead of points but both systems work. It took me a couple weeks to get enough food into my diet and also not go overboard at certain meals. If you are happy with WW you can add ALLI and get great results.

Keep up the effort. It will work.

    Linda

Re: Just started today I need some encouragment HELP!!!

Maybe the diet you looked at didn't contain fat.  What I discovered is that small things you would never expect contained high amounts of fat.  Like Little Debbies oatmeal cookies, the small ones, have 12 grams of fat.  Surprising huh?  The more labels you read, the more fat surprises you'll get.

Good luck to all especially my daughter who has joined my adventure with me.
