    No Willpower- a vicious cycle

    Hello,

I have been off the plan for a couple of months, but I'm back now.  (8 pounds heavier).

My problems remain the same.  I want to lose weight and feel better, but I have no willpower.  I wake up every morning thinking "this

is the day.  No more junk food.  More exercise."  I do great until about 3:00 pm.  Then I get the munchies.  I have a little snack, then a

another, then another.  By the time I'm done, I've eaten just as bad as ever.

The same with exercise.  After working all day, coming home, fixing dinner, bathing kids, cleaning house,  I'm too tired and it's too

    late  to exercise.

I don't mean to whine.  I just don't know how to fix it.  I keep waiting for my "ah-ha" moment to come.  ... Maybe tomorrow....

try and "schedule" a 30 minute walk or excercise dvd or tape  .. just like you schedule a doctor appointment..   i find that if i can get my workout in BEFORE i come home and start the ratrace at home i do much better.. you need some "me time"  i use a gym nearby even though at first i felt "too fat for the gym"..but it gets me out of the house and away from distractions
...like the nike commercial says  "just do it"   ..i still dont like doing it..but i do it anyway.. give yourself a little non food reward when you get it done.. or maybe make a deal with yourself if you do it 5 days in a row..you get  to watch a movie or something else like 1 hour of peace and quiet..change clothes.. put on your workout clothes..buy some comfotrabe workout capri or pants or shorts and by the way, a good excercise bra is a MUST!!!  (at least for me)..when i change my clothes i am reminded in the mirror of why i am doing this.. i am feeling better about the mirror these days.. i can see progress...i always feel better when i am done...if you have a friend, husband or family member that will do it with you.. great!! but if not do it for yourself!!  you will be glad you did..because i promise you, after a while you will have more energy do do the stuff you wanna do.. also a b complex vitamin may boost your energy level ..it works for me..i can tell the difference..good luck.. i hope that was the nudge you needed..keep me updated on your progress..yes there will be progress once you start!!            good luck   kathy

Re: No Willpower- a vicious cycle

Maybe this helps ... I went through some bad stuff a couple of years ago ... I had lots of physical limitations as a resulted of an accident.  I was inactive and I ate more than usual.  To try to improve my situation I took small steps toward eating healthy and I began to exercise.  At the end of the workday I usually felt too exhaust to do a workout, so I'd tell myself I was going to the gym and if I didn't like it, I could leave after 15 minutes.  Most days, I felt better after 15 minutes and I'd end up staying for 30 to 45 minutes.  On days I wanted to leave after 15 minutes, I'd leave after 15 minutes and feel that at least I had tried to workout that day.  Exercise releases endorphins in the brain and they're a natural mood elevator so the increased exercise helped my mood which helped me with my eating habits and my workout habits.  In my case, this method helped.  I'm more active, I'm stronger, my diet and my blood pressure are improved.  I lost 30 lbs. in 2 years (with about 30 more to lose!).  It worked for me.  If you try it, I hope it works for you.  Wishing you the very best. - jane

Re: No Willpower- a vicious cycle

Hey, I have or had the same problem.  I recently just went ahead and restarted my weight loss journey.  I started alli and gained two pounds, and now have lost the again. I know what you mean about getting that excercise in.  What I thought about doing and tried to do, but was just to tired, was to wake up earlier in the morning and get it in while the babies sleep.  For your willpower, you just have to think how good  you will look when you have the body of your dreams.  Just keep thinking that when you lose weight, you will be the greatest thing on the block!  Everytime you want to eat something, just think to yourself that when you eat junk food, it's only going to make you feel worse. I always remember what I read in the alli starter book:  "Will it look as good on me as it does on the shelf?"  Well good luck and just keep getting online for more willpower!

Re: No Willpower- a vicious cycle

Part of this lifestyle is learning why you may be doing something. Are you eating enough at each meal? Are you snacking in the afternoon because of stress or other emotional reasons? Do you continue to keep foods in the house that you shouldn't eat? Are you eating a satisfing snack? (One high in protein or fiber.)

Set aside some time just for yourself. Even if its just 15 minutes, at least its something. If you have to take the kids with you, go for a nice walk or to the park. Don't sit on the bench but get active with the kids.

Post things around the house to help you. Little words of encouragement. Reminders in the cupboards. Give yourself some visuals such as a dress, blouse or other item of clothing in a size smaller that you really like. That will give you a goal to shoot for.
