    Still Losing Weight

Okay, Registered Dietitians, here is my dilemma.

I had a total hip replacement procedure done on July 24.  My weight was 144 at the time of surgery.  Since then I have dropped down to 141.  I lowered my calorie/fat to 1200/12 because the only exercise I do is the routine my physical therapist wants me to do for my rehab.

What am I doing wrong?  Should I increase my calories and fat?  I am WAY to thin at 141.  My husband, son, and mother want me to start eating high fat foods but I have no interest in that, particularly since my lipid panel finally came back with good numbers.  I've been eating my typical menu of food that I did while I was taking my alli pill (I no longer take the alli pill).

This post sounds confusing to me.  In a nutshell...

What can I do to stop losing weight?

Thank you for all your help and support!

    Cheers,
    Patti

    Re: Still Losing Weight

     Hi Patti,

A 1200 calorie meal plan is very low - even for someone trying to lose weight with very little activity.  I will recommend you increase your calorie intake to at least 1400 calories or try the last calorie level you were at the time you reached your goal and stopped taking alli.  If you still continue to lose weight add 200 calorie per day until your weight is stable and you are able to maintain your weight goal.  Eating fatty foods will not only make you gain weight rapidly but also increase your cholesterol, LDL's, etc.

Hope you continue to recuperate :)
