    Extreme Vitamin Sensitivity

I have been on the Alli plan for less than a week - lost five pounds already!  Yeah!  But I am having one problem.  I do understand the importance of taking a multi-vitamin (Centrum) with the Alli plan and I was taking them earlier in the week.  But (as has happened in the past) I had insomnia every night that I took one - I was taking them FIRST thing every morning...as soon as I got up (in hopes this wouldn't happen).  Each night that I had taken one (early in the previous morning) I would sleep soundly for about 3-4 hours then wake up and stay awake for hours.....with heavy eyelids but an unstoppable, racing mind.  I finally took Nyquil the last night to go back to sleep - which worked (was only awake two hours in the middle of the night that night).  For the last two days I have quit taking my vitamins - the first night I still woke up off & on, but always went back to sleep quickly.  Last night I slept soundly almost all night - waking up once just for a minute - and I feel so much better today.  I believe it took that long for them to get out of my system.  I'm convinced that the vitamin was the cause of my insomnia...it's the only change I made.

I have had trouble with this before and had to stop taking vitamins.  I do want to take them though - but I just can't function without my sleep!

Could I possibly try splitting the vitamin in half?  (This still concerns me - I really don't want that insomnia - but I'm willing to try it if it's okay.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated!  Thanks!

    Re: Extreme Vitamin Sensitivity

Hello. May I ask what kind of vitamin you take? Could it possibly contain any ingredients that are stimulating like caffeine? Does it have any herbal products mixed inthe formulation. It is uncommon for a regular multivitamin to cause thatmuch insomnia but if you are sensitive, there are some things you can try.

First, if taking the multi at bedtime makes the problem worse, you can take it another time of day. Try to take it at least 2 hours before or after any alli to maximize its absorption. While bedtime is best, if you cannot tolerate it, it is better to take at another time of day than not at all. Also, watch what you are ocnsuming later in the evening. Avoid foods and beverages that contain caffeine - as these can keep you awake. Too much alcohol can also interrupt sleep. Are you exercising? Exercising too close to bedtime can also interrupt sleep patterns.

Try and use these and let us know what happens. Hopefully, this will help!

    Re: Extreme Vitamin Sensitivity

Hi, I have been taking Equate Women's One Daily w/Calcium, Iron & Zinc (it says compare to One A Day).  Ingredients are:  Vitamins A, C, D, E, K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Chromium.  Each of these are also listed in Centrum vitamins (it has more listed than this vitamin).  There is no caffeine in the vitamin.  (I know to avoid it for sure).  There aren't any herbal products mixed into it either.  I was taking it as soon as I got up in the morning....with the hopes that any affect would be worn off by bedtime.  I don't take an Alli pill until lunchtime (my breakfast has only 3.5 grams of fat).

I never consume caffeine in the evening - or anything with much sugar either.  I don't drink alcohol.  I do walk, but early in the day.

I will try taking the vitamin just before bedtime.  I hadn't thought of that.  But I will be sure it is at least two hours after taking an Alli pill.  (I usually eat dinner by 6:00 pm anyhow - which is when I take the Alli pill - and bedtime is 10:30.)

I'll let you know how it's going early next week.  The weekend is a great time to give this a try - at least I can take a nap during the day if it does happen again during the weekend! (Crossing my fingers that it won't though!)

    Thanks!  :)
