    discouraged

    Hi anyone....

I am on my 5th week and only 5 lbs (4 in week one)- trying desperately to not give up, again.  The site does a good job of being positive, but I feel like I am trying so hard & not loosing the weight. I am a mother to 3 and work fulltime (like most of all you, I'm sure) & dieting is so difficult. The most of my weight was after my last son, who was 10lbs at birth- my body just will not recovery- & it's been 3 years now! Exercising is my downfall, eating better hasn't been as hard as I thought, & with the exception of 4-5 meals over the last month, I have been sticking to it.

Anyone out there further along, notice the weight to come off in the months to come for me? I just assumed that the majority of the weight would come off during the first month.......

    Re: discouraged

     Hi Tyken!!

I started about a month and a half ago, so not too far off of where you are. I had lost about 8lbs in the first two weeks and then fluctuated there after. I'm sure that was mainly water weight that I lost. What I have changed since day one was my exercise regimine. From very very little activity, I'm now in the gym at least 4 times a week, and I do a lot of strength at home as well. The weight isn't MELTING off as I had wished... I got a little depressed for sometime until I got a pep talk from my hubby who advised me to not care so much about the scale, but to start focusing on my measurements. So now, my weight, it comes secondary. I see a total difference in my measurements. And I feel so much better knowing that I'm doing the right things for my body. And I know it's a long term commitment.

Hang in there. It's not an easy climb for any of us. Challenge yourself to pick up some more activity. These changes will come in time. It's a true test of patience and perseverence.

    Re: discouraged

Very good advice, Mimi, and for those who don't exercise as much as they should, I can tell you that I lost 50 pounds without exercising much.  It took about nine months, but it happened.  It's all about calories in vs. calories expended, however you choose to do it.  They fast weight loss in the beginning is usually water.  I've heard that any weight you lose that stays off for three weeks is really fat lost and not water.  I don't know if that's true, but I like it.  Hang in there, it will happen.

Thanks SO much ! I have noticed a change in  the way my clothes fit, even when not losing much weight. The words of encouragement are so helpful ;)

    Re: discouraged

I have been taking Alli for almost 2 weeks and am feeling a bit discouraged myself. I've lost 5 lbs, 4 the first week and this measly one this week. I have not strayed from my diet, I'm riding my bike 2-3 miles a day (just started this week) and I'm riding hard enough to work up a sweat. I thought for sure with the added exercise I would get fast results, sadly I have not. I weigh myself everyday, which I know I shouldn't do but I can't help myself. I have considered even putting the scale in the garage so I won't be tempted every morning. I think there is a difference in the way my clothes are fitting but I can't say for sure. I was just hoping for faster results.

I'm not quitting! I have to do this for myself!! I'm glad I'm not the only one having these feelings and it's nice to be able to talk about it to someone who understands.

This time I will do it!

    Re: discouraged

Don't get discouraged!!  I have been on Alli since March 22 of this year and have lost 33 lbs.  While that maybe isn't a lot of weight...it was my goal and I reached it.  My weight ALSO came off VERY slowly and I felt discouraged at times also.  I did notice that my weight just "got stuck" during 2 weeks of the month.  A week before and the week during my period.  Then after my period was gone I would lose easier.  It can be discouraging when the weight comes off slowly but that's when you have WAY less chance of gaining it back.  I have become a crazy person about "fat content" in foods.  I won't cheat either...because I feel like I'm ruining everything I've worked for.  Of course "watching" calories...but not nearly as much as fat.  There are tons of food out there that are good and tasty that don't have a lot of fat.  I completely stopped eating red meat.  I eat chicken, pork, turkey, pasta etc.  No butter...not cream sauces etc.  You know the drill, I'm sure.  I also do walk for 45 min. EVERY day with my dog.  I also have 3 children, although they much older than yours!  I believe the lack of red meat, the "fat content craziness" and the walking in combo as done it (of course the help of Alli)!  But, now I feel I can live without Alli because of the way it has made me change my diet.  It's worked really great for me and I hope it will for you too.  Don't give up...you can do it!!  You will feel sooooo much better about your health and self image if you keep going!

    Good Luck

    Re: discouraged

Christa, Thanks for your encouragment, it makes me feel better. I certainly wasn't near the point of giving up but you have inspired me to keep working hard. I'm not doing this for anyone but me and I deserve it. My blood pressure was up at my last few doctor appointments and she said if it didn't come down I would have to take medication, that was all it took! I quit smoking April 1, 2007 and have packed on 20 lbs in addition to a stressful year. I know it took more than a year to gain the extra weight and it will take time to get rid of it. I'm eating healthy, I ride my bike everyday 2-3 miles and I'm taking Alli with 2 of my meals ( I don't eat any fat with breakfast) so I know it will work. My husband and kids are proud of my efforts and are behind me 100 percent but it's nice to talk to others going through it also.

    Good luck!

    Re: discouraged

Thanks Jennifer...and Good Luck to you too!  It sounds like you are doing AWESOME!  I'm feeling good today...I hit my goal weight!  It took 5 months to lose 33 lbs but I feel like I can keep it off because I didn't starve myself while following the Alli plan.  Isn't it amazing how it teaches you that it's okay to eat and not starve??  It is an awesome way to rethink what you put in your body and how important exercise is.  Alli made it so much easier.  Riding your bike for 2-3 miles is fantastic!  Good for you.  I also have to say CONGRATS on quiting smoking.  I'm so sure that wasn't an easy thing for you to do.  I'm not a smoker BUT I do realize it's an addiction and I'm not one of those to say "why doesn't she just quit"...I realize it's very hard to do!  So...you should be REALLY proud of yourself....REALLY!!  Hug that husband and kids...that support they are giving you is so VERY important.  I was lucky that way too!  My middle daughter (I have 3) just said to me yesterday..."Mom, so many of my friends have mentioned how skinny your are"  !!!  Crazy comment, huh?  BUT...it was soooo good to hear!  You keep it up, Jennifer!  I'm sure you feel healthier and much sexier and that's a great feeling, isn't it?  Keep up the good work...take care!

    Great talking with you,

    Christa

    Re: discouraged

     Christa,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I bet it feels wonderful to have reached your goal weight, I'm sure the comments will keep coming, as they should! I can't wait to be able to say I've reached mine and with some determination I will some day.

I haven't seen my oldest daughter for 5 weeks and I will see her on Friday so I'm anxious to see if she notices the slight difference in my look. She is very supportive for living out of state.

Last night we went out to dinner for mussels, I have to admit I didn't take the Alli because I counldn't verify the fat content. Of course they are steamed and had a garlic butter sauce poured over them, they were delicious but I feel pretty guilty about eating them. I did have a nice big salad with fat-free dressing first so I was tempted to eat more! Other than that I'm still on track and feeling pretty good about it, I weigh in Friday so hopefully I will see some results for my hard work.

Congratulations again! I'm happy for you.

    Jennifer

    Re: discouraged

I've been on alli for about 7 weeks.  I steadily loose about 2 pounds a week.  I also got discouraged during the first month. I took the advice and started measuring my waist, bust, and thighs.  I've lost 3 inches on my waist.  To me that is as important as loosing the pounds.  I keep a journal and am amazed at times.  When I added exercise that is when I really started noticing the improvement in my body and it took about 7 weeks, but people are not seeing that I am loosing. Alli is not a miracle shrinker, but I believe it is an eating plan that I can stick to for a long time.  My energy is up and I am feeling so much better.  Keep up the good work!  Don't feel guilty about splurging on treats.  You can't deprive yourself of everything.  Just think you are doing a lot better than when you first started.  After I started counting my calories and fat intake it was unbelievable what I was putting into my body. No wonder I only wanted to lay on the couch.  Good luck!
