    Ineffective batch of pills?

Since I started Alli I have consistently had the orange oil in the toilet......... My last batch of Alli pills I had no effects. I just purchased a new bottle and once again I have the side effect. My diet hasnt changed in fact I have trouble eating my required fat grams. Any ideas, could the last bottle have been a bad batch?

    Re: Ineffective batch of pills?

     Hi Brody,

I started using Alli about one week ago.  I have been surprised that I have seen NO change at ALL in my bowels - nothing has been any different at all in the toilet (no orange, no nothing).....I had wondered the same thing you did (do I have a bad bottle or something).  The only thing is - I have nothing to compare it to since this is my first time taking them.  I think the ones that I purchased are a bit *older* - think they had been on the store shelf for a while.  I have been seeing them and thinking about trying them for quite some time.   They are just too expensive to go out and buy more (making sure they're from a different lot) to see if they affect me the same.

Did you continue to lose weight while taking that bottle?

    Karan :)

ps - congrats on your progress!

    Re: Ineffective batch of pills?

    Hi brody803,

The orange oil in the toilet is the excess fat, but you do not need to see it to know that alli is working.  You have mentioned that you have trouble eating the amount of fat grams suggested ,understand the less fat you eat the less excess that will be eliminated or that will be noticed.  If you have increased your fiber intake, this too tends to mix the oil in.  With time your body becomes more tolerable of alli's side effects yet it is still effective and blocking 25% of the fat.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Ineffective batch of pills?

    Hi Karan,

Rest assured that if the bottle of alli you purchased was in date you are getting 100% potency from it.

Not everyone experiences or sees the oily discharge when taking alli.

It is dependent on a number of factors:

    1) The amount of fat consumed.

    2) The food you are eating, the more fiber the less noticeable the oil.

    3) Your body

As you see a gradual weight loss you will be assured that alli and you are doing the job.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Ineffective batch of pills?

I had a 'scare' yesterday at about 4:30 pm.  I had just eaten some rotisserie chicken & actually had eaten a little of the roasted skin (which obviously contains fat).  I had a lot of things on my mind and went to take my Alli pill.  I accidentally took two pills at once....I realized what I had done the minute I swallowed them, but it was too late.  What really concerned me though was that I HAD to teach a class last night at my church - there was no way out of it at that point.  Of course, I was terrified of having treatment effects - but I didn't have any!  Of course, I was relieved that I didn't have any but at the same time, it makes me wonder if this is an effective batch of pills.  I'm actually considering putting the pills to the 'test' this weekend when I don't have to be anywhere - by eating a LOT of fat and taking a pill or two.  After last night, I still have to wonder if it is a possibility that this is an ineffective batch of pills.

I wish someone could send me a few sealed samples of Alli that they know is effective so I could compare how they affect me to how this bottle is affecting me (or isn't affecting me).  I have seen no difference at all in my 'system'.

    Thanks.

I feel the same way.  I just ate a meal with more fat content and took two pills to just "see".  So far, no difference. I am getting a little nervous that this is a bad batch as well.

    Re: Ineffective batch of pills?

    Hi karamwk,

A treatment effect can occur up to 72 hours after a high fat meal, but it is more common after 24 hours.  You will not experience an effect each time you go over the limit, some people may be more tolerant of the fat and it also depends on the other foods eaten at the time ( high fiber tends to help alleviate the occurrence of a TE).  With 2 pills you do increase the amount of fat that will be inhibited from 25% to about 35%, it will not lead to a quicker effect.

Alli is blocking the fat, whether you are getting the effects or not.  You need to give it time.

    Hope this helps.
