     Trina and Elia,

you all are doing so great.

can't wait to get out of the 160's into the 150's. woo hoo.

Judy, nice to see you too. glad u are doing well. i love carbs too but am getting more into the veggies and fruits. they help so much. next visit to costco i'm getting some dates. they say dates are natures candy. they aren't the biggest ones but the price is right and i don't have to wait for them to be shipped. sometimes i put in a half or a sliver of pecan and it is oh so yummy.

    have a great one ladies.

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Trina and Nita, you are both doing so well, and it's so good to hear from you.  I love it when you check in.  Oh my gosh Trina, I didn't realize you and Elia were in 1/2 pound of each other!  What an exciting race, and the carrot dangling at the end is just what you need to keep you going, lol.  What are you two going to do when you both break through 128?  I mean you aren't going to continue setting new goals to lose more weight, are you?  I don't care, it's fun to watch you two, but just checking to make sure you're really healthy, (not skin and bone).  Linda, you're doing great with your challenge at work too, and I also worry about you, you seem to be getting sick a lot.  Now everybody stay healthy, okay?  Nita, I know what you mean about eating dates for candy, I do that with those pitted prunes that are packed in the round cardboard container, they are as sweet as candy and delicious.  Unfortunately, they are definitely not on the low-carb diet, so I'm doing without them right now.  In fact, I had to throw them away because they're too much of a temptation everytime I open the fridge.  I'm not crazy about this South Beach diet because the first two weeks are very difficult, but after four days on it I've lost five pounds, so I'm pretty thrilled with that.  I don't know if I've broken the carb addiction yet, but I have pretzels and candy sitting on my counter cap at work and they aren't even tempting me, so maybe it's working.  Anyway, nothing like a new challenge to keep you going.  Elia, I really feel for you, you are way too busy for my liking, and I hope things break a little for you soon so we can get you back here.  By the way, is Kimberly back on the board?

    Love, Judy

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Judy, thank you for worrying about me and my weight loss.  I am actually doing great.  I am only 5'2" so, my weight is still on the high side.  I would love to get to 120, but if I can at least make it to my 100 pound lost, then I will be happy.  But, Elia, she is probably pushing it a bit.  I think she is much taller.  Hear me Elia?  It's time for you to stop!!!  LOL  Now, we will see if she can listen this time, or if she is going to try and beat me again, by getting closer to 120 before I can.  She has the advantage right now, she is ahead of me!

As long as you try, you will be successful.

    Trina

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Hi Girls, Trina and Elia you are a great inspiration for the rest of us.  I did the Carbohydrates Addicts diet about 7 years ago.  I lost 35lbs in about 7 weeks.  I took me a year to put it all back on.  I have tried to do it again and it wouldn't work the same as the first time.  It is all I can do to follow the Alli plan.  But, good luck to you carb restictors.  Hey, whatever works.  Linda you do what you need to stay strong.   It takes a lot of willpower to avoid food parties at work.  My hardest thing is socializing with food.  Tomorrow I am meeting 2 of my sisters for lunch.  One is driving to Mpls from Duluth, Mn the other is coming from Osceola, WI and I am driving up from IA.  I have been practicing a week how I am going to handle lunch.  We are going to Applebees.  I have already checked the menu online.  Whenever I get together with family or friends it's eat eat eat.  I am so close to being in the 150's that I just can not go backwards.  So, I won't be back online until Monday night or Tues.  Have a great Halloween, Lynn

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Well, it's the day after Halloween, (one holiday out of the way).  How did we all do?  I bought a big bag of Skittles and StarBursts, two candies that could sit there for a year and I wouldn't be tempted.  The kids all seemed to like it though, and it made it so easy to avoid the chocolate temptation.  Friday an old friend took me out to lunch for my birthday, (I know it was over a month ago, but who am I to argue?)  We went to Ruby Tuesday, which is both a good place for a diet, and a bad place for a diet.  I just told him I was doing the South Beach diet, and he was so cool with it.  We both just had the salad bar and I didn't put anything on it that was fresh, (like no canned beans or corn or canned beets or toasted sunflower seeds).  He did the same, and told me he and his wife go on and off that diet, when they start gaining weight back they just go to Phase One of S.B. and take it off.  That was the only temptation I had over the weekend and today I'm staying home and eating my S.B. correct food.  As of this morning (my 9th day) I've lost 7 pounds.  I won't finish up Phase One until next Saturday, but I'm pretty excited.  Elia, I agree, "whatever works".  It helps tremendously that my daughter, Renee, is on it with me, (sort of, she's doing Atkins).  She has lost 8 pounds and we check in with each other several times a day.  It's a great addition to having you guys on the board here.  Now, has it broken my addiction to carbs and sugar?  I don't really know, I still love them both, but they were doing a pizza commercial on t.v. today and it didn't even look good to me.  I no longer wake up and think how good donuts or a croissant would be for breakfast, so something is going on.  I am not here to say I can do this forever, just that so far, so good, and today is another good day.  Linda, you were so smart to not bring anything to work on Halloween.  I had never thought of doing that, but you're right, it's an easy way to stay away from all the goodies the other people bring.  I don't work on Fridays so I didn't have to look at all that enticing stuff.  Lynn, I don't know how you're going to resist falling off the wagon when your sisters come to lunch, but I went out with friends for drinks Thursday night and we always order hors d'oeuvres, so I filled up on cottage cheese and a chicken breast before I went and was able to avoid all the food without suffering, so that might be something to think about.  I don't know, it's just a continuing battle, that's all.  It really helps me to tape Dr. Oz and watch him every night, because he's all about weight loss and methods of obtaining it.  All righty, I'm going to go give Charlie a bath, so that should be a messy and big fight.  I'll check in tomorow to see how everyone is doing.  (Elia, you need to take a sleeping pill and just give it all up for one night.)

    Love, Judy

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Girls, Let me give you a hint of what does work, and it will make you feel great in the process.  You know in the evenings when you are really wanting to snack on something?  Well, instead, go into your bathroom, draw you a nice warm bath with the bubble scent you like, and just sit back in that tub and relax.  You not only will forget about the snacking, but you will be pampering yourself, and your body will love you for it.  Then, get out and get on a nice comfy nighty, and watch some TV or read a book.  We need to stop letting food dictate us like it does!!  It isn't about food, it is about feeling comfort, and I just gave you one of the best ways to comfort yourself.  Just try it!!

As long as you try, you will be successful.

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Hello everyone!! Trina, i do hope they all listen to your advice and follow it!! Now, if I only had a bathtub! We have the stands in both bathrooms! Judy, good going sistah, you actually are behaving! You have to keep Renee on a diet with you so it will work for you both! Linda, how is that challenge going at work? Judy hon, I am terrified of taking a sleeping pill and having an emergency while I am under the influence of it! Heck, my housemate keeps telling me that she is going to buy me some melatonin, but that thing really puts me to sleep and then I feel all groggy the next day, not good!  Lynn, how did you do with the outing? Applebee does have some healtnhy choices. I have found out that if I make my mind up about what I am going to eat before I get to the restaurant then it is smooth sailing! Of course, there is the beer that I have to consider!! Nita how are you doing?  Oh boy, did we blow up Holloween! I was in the sofa watching tv and of course fell asleep, woke up at ten surprised that nobody had come treat or treating. Went to take the pups out and found out we had not turned on the outside front light. At least our neighbors are really well behaved, not one knocked on the door! Now we have 3 bags of candy, 2 of payday and one of granola bars!! I will be giving candy to the kids just for the heck of it!! Hey Judy, I gave Mia and Jerry, a bath yesterday. Mia does not mind, but Jerry goes balistic when you are trying to dry him and bites!! At least this time I was faster than he was and no blood was drawn! Tomorrow I will see what my scale has to say about me not working out! The food situation is ok but I do need to start doing some walkin and swimming or either, at tthis point! Ok gang, you all have a healthy and safe week! Love,

    Elia

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Hi Girls,  I didn't do very well in Mpls....foodwise.  I am back on track now and am very determined.  I was really disappointed that no one noticed that I lost 23lbs.  I haven't seen these 2 sisters since May 2008 (when my brother passed away).  I know I was 178 then and now I am 160.  I guess my clothes are a little baggy and we were sitting down the whole time.  I went to dinner with my best friend and she didn't notice either.  We went to Red Lobster....I ate 2 cheese muffins.  Then we spilt a broiled lobster, shrimp dinner.  I could have done better.... but I could have done worse. I really wanted one of those giant strawberry margaritas.  I found out they have about 1200 calories!!  So, I think I did OK by having water.

OK, here is the latest on Maggie and her broken leg.  I took her to Des Moines to the othopedic surgeon today.  He said he wants to put 5 pins in her leg and in 8-12 weeks take them out.  There aren't any gaurantees.  I will have to find someone in UT to take the pins out.  So, she is going for the surgery this Thurs.  When I got home there was a bill from the vet for the treatment of her broken leg!!  I tried to remain calm while I called and asked if this was an auto generated mistake.  The girl who answered the phone said it must be, but the office manager was not in at that time.  The surgeon is going to be close to $2,000.  I don't want to be responsible for any of that.

I had a wonderful time with my grandkids.  My daughter just found out that they will get to adopt the baby they have had for a year.  This makes 4 all adopted.  She said for 4 kids she has to have a front loading washer and dryer and her DH said I would have given you one for 3 kids!!!  They are really good parents.  Halloween was a lot of fun.  I will miss them when I move.  They are a 5 hour drive now but will be a plane ride from UT.

Hope everyone is having a great week.  Later, Lynn

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

I did post on the Over 50 website today, and it took, so I'll try again here, but not as long.  Diet going good, 8 pounds so far, the detox portion ends tomorrow, just in time for the weekend.  Hope I can maintain at least.  I did want to tell you about Charlie's latest episode.  The other night I left my pajamas on the back of a chair in the bedroom while I took a shower.  When I came out the bottoms were gone, along with one slipper sock that was also on the chair.  I looked around, thought I know I left those there, thought Spencer would never do that, Smokey would never do that, Charlie...looked at him and he was sleeping peacefully on the floor.  I woke him up and accused him, went and looked out the deck door into the backyard, said did you take my pajamas out through the pet door, Charlie?  He went back to sleep.  I turned on the deck light because it was dark out there and didn't see anything in the grass or on the deck.  I didn't go out there because the back part of the house would have been too dark to see anyway, (too lazy to get a flashlight) and the pajamas were black, (like Charlie).  I got another pair of pj's out of the drawer and went to bed, thinking I hope they show up before the gardner comes on Saturday and has to hand them to me.  In the middle of the night I got up to go to the bathroom and in the dark I could see Charlie laying there on the floor next to the bed.  I carefully and quietly stepped around him because I didn't want to wake the sleeping terror.  In the morning when I got up I looked over at Charlie and I saw (no surprise) , not Charlie, but my pajama bottoms with my slipper sock laying next to it.  He brought them back to me in the middle of the night, (damp from the grass but back), bless his nutty little heart.  Okay, back to work, just wanted to share.  Hope everyone is having a super day.

Re: Elia, Linda, Lizzy, Patty, Kimberley, Buzz, Judy, Where Are You?

Hi Everyone,  What a long day.  I dropped Maggie off at the doggie hospital at 8am.  The tech said she was first on the surgery schedule and that the dr would call me when they were done.  I waited and waited and couldn't stand it anymore and called at 4pm.  A tech said they were still in surgery and hung up.  I couldn't believe it!!  I'm thinking 7 hours!?!  At 5:30 the vet surgeon called and said it went pretty good.  She must not have been 1st on the surgery list.  They put 5 pins in her leg.  They are going through the skin and out the other side and are attached by a plastic bar on each side.  I might be able to pick her up tomorrow evening.  This place is open every night until 10pm....they said I can come and visit anytime.  In 8-12 weeks she needs to get the pins removed.  The surgeon has a friend in Salt Lake, so we may drive her up there...it's a 5 hour drive from the new house.  The vet's office here in town calls almost everyday to see how Maggie is doing.  And this morning when I dropped Maggie off the hospital asked if I wanted and estimate and I said no because it is to be billed to Brett the vet at Pella Pets.  Seriously that is his name.  They have been pretty good about the whole thing.  It is very quiet around here.  I will be glad to have her home. Thanks for all your kind words........it meant a lot to me.  Lynn
