    Nascar weekend

This past weekend I had the opportunity to go to the Nascar race in Bristol. This of course is a once in a lifetime chance for me. I stuck with myalli plan sticking to my calorie and fat intake until Friday when everything got out of whack! There is not a healthy food choice to be found anywhere at the track! I walked the whole perimeter trying to find something to eat finally settling on a chicken pita. Bad choice! It was mostly dark meat. Unfortunately we got home at 2:00am the next morning, up very early Saturday morning to head back to the track for more Nascar excitement. If I had known or had the time to stop I would have gotten a small soft cooler and packed a variety of sandwiches, fruits and veggies so that I would stick with my plan. If I ever have the chance to go to another race I will know better next time and will be able to plan ahead for my meals and snacks. I just wanted to post this for anyone else who may have the chance to go to a Nascar race, so that they can be prepared! The treatment affects were horrible. This is the first time that I have had treatment affects since I started the plan 6 weeks ago and never want to have them again!

    Hi Hawaiiangirl68,

I am sorry to hear that you experienced a treatment effect. It sounds like you had a great time at the race, but it's unfortunate that it ended this way. It would definitely be best to plan ahead and bring your own food next time. You also have the option of not taking a pill when you are not sure how much fat is in the meal that you are consuming.

    Thanks for sharing,

OMG !!!  Night Bristol races - how awesome is that !!  Hubby and I went 3 years ago when they put out the red flag for SNOW.  A first in Nascar history ... oh yea .. and we were there.  I even was lucky enough to get hit in the back of the neck with a SOLID iceball by some drunk idiot up behind me :)  lol

     Hi Betty,

I had a wonderful time!! I now know better if I ever get a chance to go to another race. I already talked with my husband about this and he totally agreed. He has been very supportive through this. He isn't taking the pill, but is eating all the low fat foods I've been preparing and has liked most of it. I think this has not only thought me to be prepared for a Nascar race, but any situation or outing that I'm not sure exactly what is going on or what kind of food is going to be served. Thanks for writing!

Hi Mrs Buckeye!!! It sounds like you've had tons of fun as well!!! I think everyone should experience a Nascar race at least once in their lifetime, even if they don't care too much for car races. It's an experience they will never forget!!! I'm glad you can LOL about the snowball! Sounds like you are fun to be around! I hope you didn't get hurt from it though! Thanks for writing!!

    Re: Nascar weekend

    Hi Hawaiiangirl68,

It sounds like you and your husband are lucky to have each other! This entire process is a learning experience. The only way to know what needs to change is to be out there experiencing life and eating. When you are faced with situations like this you get to come up with solutions for future ones. There are habits that have been developed that need to be changed as we go.

    Thanks for sharing,

    Re: Nascar weekend

I would LOVE to go to a Bristol race.  We have season tickets to Kansas and are going to the truck race Saturday.  I don't think I will have a problem with the food but the alcohol is going to kick my butt!!!!

I know exactly what you mean, when we go to Kansas we do all the tailgating.  We cook breakfast, lunch and dinner at the track.

Breakfast will usually constist of eggs & sausage.  Lunch we will either have hamburgers or tenderloins (on the grill) and dinner is leftover lunch.  The problem comes with the 45 bags of chips, 4 different kinds of cookies, puppy chow, and whatever anyone else decides to bring (our group is about 30 people & everyone brings something) And of course the alcohol.  A whole weekend of tailgating you can go though quite a bit of that.

As for Saturday we are going to eat before we leave.  (we usually only go to the truck not the IRL so it is not a whole weekend like the nationwide & cup series) so my only problem is going to be alcohol.

Thanks for the warning I will do my best to be prepared.

    Re: Nascar weekend

Hawaiiangirl - this is a little off-topic but I saw something in your post I wanted to ask about.  Your hubby is not taking the medication but is following the eating plan with you.  That is what we will be doing - I am starting this weekend.  Is your husband losing weight?  Mine is hoping that just by eating the same as me he will benefit with some weight loss.

On-topic...I'm glad you had a great time at the races, but so sorry about the down side.
