    My eating habit

     Hello,

I was wondering about my eating habit I have put myself on. I know I am suppose to be eating about 1800 calories a day for my weight(324 starting) and about 60 or 90 grams of fat(sorry, I just read it before sending this to you and I cant remember, its hell having senior moments from time to time! haha). Well, I started to put myself on a very strict diet even before I started taking Alli, Its as low a calorie and fat as I can do..if I had to guess, I would say its about 1000-1500 calories a day and maybe 10 - 15 grams of fat a day as well. I take a multi-vitamin every night as I am suppose to, I eat healthy food and I feel full and fine. I have lost 14 pounds in about 2-3 weeks and feel better. Is my way of eating now ok as I feel fine and full even though I am not taking my allowed total of calories and fat grams a day? I have been taking Alli now for 4 days and I have had no side effects that tend to be bad as I have read from people not sticking to their diet. Now I wont say I havent been making a few extra trips to the bathroom mind you, but I am all good with that! haha

Anyways, I just wanted to ask if how I am eating is ok.

    Thanks for your time,

    Randy Baldwin

    Re: My eating habit

     Hi Randy,

    Welcome on board!

It is wonderful that you are already committed to eating healthy by watching your calories and fat intake.  Based on your post, looks like your calorie intake of about 1000 to 1500 calories may be very low when consuming 1000 calories (minimum weight loss calorie level is 1200 calorie and 12 grams of fat per day). Eating a very low calorie diet may also slow your metabolism.  I will recommend login your food intake for a few weeks just to get an estimate of how many calories you are really consuming - go to myalliplan to find the nutrition logs.  If you are truly consuming 1500 calories and feeling pretty satisfied, then you may stay with 1500 calorie and about 15 grams of fat per meal.  But if you start to lose more than 3 pounds per week consistently, then is time to increase your calorie level to 1800 calories and 19 grams of fat per meal (which equals to 57 grams of fat per day - never go to 90 grams per day!).

Let me know if you have any further questions,

Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, MS, RD, LDN, CPT - registered dietitian
