I'm exercising but its not making a big difference!

    Hello,

I'm writing because I have not been an exerciser but I have actually been walking two miles almost everyday for the past two weeks.  This has been a great accomplishment for me because I have not ever stuck with an exercise routine.  However, I thought this would really accelerate my weight loss.  It hasn't.  I only lost slightly over a half pound at this weekly weigh-in!  Okay, I'm grateful that it was a loss and not a gain but I thought by going from no exercise to almost everyday something good might happen.

Can someone give me some insight into this?  Is this the way it is when you start exercising?  Is there something I need to do?  I just need some advice and some direction.

Have a good holiday weekend everyone! :-)

    Lynn

     Hi Lynn,

You should be really proud of yourself!  You have stuck to your exercise program and if you continue to do so you can achieve you fitness goals.  Don't get discouraged.  The key to being successful is sticking with it iver the long haul. Most people never achieve their weight loss goals because the quit when they don't see results after a week or two.  Don't fall into that trap.  Stay motivated and keep exercising.  Eventually you will start to see continued weight loss week after week.

    Good Luck,

    Paul

Re: I'm exercising but its not making a big difference!

Maybe try adding some variety.  If you dont belong to a gym, try some video's at home.  Turbo Jam and Core Rythms are fun.  Lots of gyms have 3 day passes or deals so you can try them out.  Dont be embarrassed to walk into a gym.  It's all about you, and thank goodness no one wears leotards or thongs anymore to work out : )  You could try some classes or machines.  Adding weight training to your cardio helps build muscle which in turn helps burn fat.

But its all about baby steps.  The more weight you lose, the easier it is to exercise.  It even becomes fun.

So good going on the weight loss, and dont get discouraged!

     Hi Judi,

I'm going to take your and Paul's advice and hang in there.  I see that no matter what happens it is just the longevity of hanging in there that makes you succeed.  So, I am going to keep on no matter what.

Thanks for responding.  I appreciate it.  Best of luck to you!
