    When is Enough Enough?

I have been on the ALLI plan for a bit over 5 weeks now. I have lost a few pounds, and gained a few pounds. Right now I'm where I started. Treatment effects only once.

I am trying my best to follow the rules, and think I am doing a pretty good job. I think this may not be the right plan for me . . how long does it take to see positive results? I realize that everyone is different, but 5 weeks! Shouldn't I have seen at least SOMETHING? I am paying approx. $70.00 for 120 pills . . . is it worth it? I don't know.

    Re: When is Enough Enough?

Yeah, I don't know either, Kathy.  NutriSystem has been wonderful for me, it's been 14 months and I'm still pretty much following the plan.  I've lost 56 pounds and just have another one or two to go.  I do know these results would not have happened if I had given up, so that's why I'm replying to your post.  Please don't give up.  Is it worth the money you've spent?  Definitely.  Five weeks is a long time to go without losing any weight, and I'm thinking you need to change something.  If you are on 1600 calories a day, cut it back to 1400 and step up your exercise.  I'm sure other people will reply with other suggestions, but my main one is that you dont' give it up.  Even though you haven't lost any weight, are you feeling better?  Are your clothes fitting better?  If so, those are reasons enough to continue.  Please keep checking back in.  Good luck!

     Judy,

Thanks for your reply. I guess I don't know, at this point, what good the ALLI pill does. If I maintain the daily calorie intake, and mind the fat grams per meal, then what do I need the pill for?

    Re: When is Enough Enough?

Check the top of the message board where Betty writes about why you should consume the required number of calories and the same for fat grams.  You should take an alli if you eat over five grams of fat in any meal, otherwise don't bother taking one.  Since you are probably supposed to have between 15 and 17 grams of fat with each meal, (sorry, can't remember what you said and can't scroll back to look), alli will cause your body to excrete 25% of that fat.  Even though you may not see the "treatment effects" it is still being excreted in your stool.  If you really do have it all figured out, as far as how many calories and fat grams you need to lose weight and can stick to that, you don't need alli.  It's all too much trouble for me, so I rely on alli to guide me through all of this.  Keeping a journal they say, is key to staying on track.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Perhaps you are right, but before you give up, may I ask if you are actually using the nutritional log on line to record all that you eat and are you weighing and measuring to make sure it's the right amount?  Are you eating enough and having enough fat? Exercising?

I've been on the plan only since July and I'm down 16 pounds. Looking at my graph I see I'm developing a pattern of either gaining a few pounds or holding for a week, then dropping a bunch of pounds.

Maybe you want to post this to the nutritional nurses on the forum and see what they have to say.

    Best of luck to you!

    Re: When is Enough Enough?

Don't give up!  I had a lot of mixed feelings my first month!  I thought I could probably loose the same amount of weight by myself, but now I am giving Alli the credit.  When I added excersise is when I really saw a change. Also try measuring yourself and see if you loose inches.  This helped me a lot to keep motivated when the scale was not moving.  Also, I have learned that scales in the past cannot be trusted.  Don't put all your faith on your scale.

    Re: When is Enough Enough?

Yes I agree jskdean76  I don't think I am going to lose much more weight this week. But my 1st 4 weeks I peeled off 13 pounds. The GREAT thing is I measured myself too !!! And I have now lost 14 inches !!! I lost 8 more inches this week. So sometimes when your not actually seeing it on the scale the weight loss is there. I too have added 2-3 miles of walking 4-5 times a week up my street and hit the gym 4-5 times a week for 2 miles of cardio and 5-10 miles on a bike. I also have slowly implemented strength training. Just remember it works with low calorie low fat diet & exercise. Alli only helps boost your weight loss so you can not depend on the pill solely to drop all your weight you have to put a little effort forth. Hope you keep giving it a shot. Good-luck ! Amanda

    Started Alli 08/11/2008  SW: 203  -  CW: 174  -  GW: 140  Height 5'2"

    29 pounds & 20" inches lost !!   My mini goal for my weigh-in on 11/27 is 169 !

Finished my 13th week on the Alli Plan and lost 28lbs !!!!!

    Re: When is Enough Enough?

    Hi Amanda,

I wish I had taken my measurements at the start, but I was afraid it would be too depressing......I've lost 27 pounds now, so maybe I've lost 14 inches, too......I know I am down at least one or two sizes, as all my clothes are fitting better.  Thanks for the post, and keep up the great work!  Tampabayb
