September Challenge - Are 10 or 15 people interested?

I'm interested in a September Challenge.  Is anyone else interested?

I propose we focus on the following basics:

    1. Healthy Nutrition maintaining low cal and appropriate fats
    2. Cardio Workouts of at least 20 minute workouts with occassional 40 min workouts w/ Target Heart Rate Tracking
    3. Weight-Bearing Exercise - 2 or 3 per week - aim for at least 25 minutes
    4. Each participant tracks their own weight loss or gain weekly  (No details required; just a notation on the post that the participant is tracking once per week)
    5. Posting to the board daily (barring computer glitches or lack of access)
    6. One day off per week from Cardio Workouts

We could start on Tuesday, Sept 3 and end on Monday, September 30 (that would give us a 28-day challenge).

    Points:

    1. Nutrition - 1 pt. daily
    2. Cardio - 20 min workout - 1 pt. or  40 min workout - 2 pt. (6 times per week for one or the other; mix it up)
    3. Weight Bearing - each time participant does a weight workout (up to 3 per week) - 1 pt.
    4. Doing weekly weigh-in and mentioning that you did it in one post per week (no details required, just a comment that you are tracking) - 1pt,. one time per week
    5. Posting to the Challenge daily - 1 pt.
    6. Taking 1 Day per Week off from Cardio - 1 pt.

Each participants could post their points earned and the categories that they earned them in.  For example:

    Participant Name

Nutrition goals met - 1 pt

    Cardio - 40 min w THR - 2 pts.

    Posting - 1 pt.'s

Points for this date = 4 pts.

I've never done tracking, but I could try to do that for us a couple of times within the month.  Does anyone want to join in?  If we had 10 or 15 people, that would probably be good.  Let's up to 15 people organize as team on Monday (or early Tuesday) and we'll start or challenge on Tuesday.

    Hi Jane,

I'm in. This looks really good. Thanks for organizing something. I'd be happy to help track if you want help with that or anything else (if you want we could trade off weeks or something)

     Kari -

OK, so far, it's you and me!  I suspect people will sign up late because people are outdoors enjoying the holiday instead of using the computer.

Help tracking would be great.  I'm expecting to travel on business Sept 8 through 12th so I'd either have no or limited personal computer access for those 5 days.  Maybe you could do a tracking update @ the 9th and 23rd and I'll do it @ 16 and for the 30th (last day)?  I just find I do much, much better if I'm working on specific goals and posting how I did on them daily. Thanks for offering to help!

Re: September Nutrition and Exercise Challenge

Hi, Jane.  I'd like to participate.  I can track my points, I will have limited or no computer access to post until Sept 7 due to a vacation.  I should be able to post daily thereafter.  Is that OK?

Re: September Challenge - Are 10 or 15 people interested?

     Hi Jane!

This sounds challenging, and I have been stuck fighting with a few pounds up and down over the past few weeks, so please add me in if you will.

I will be out of touch computerwise from 9/12 - 9/15 - taking a mini trip up north to visit my Mom, but other than that I should at least be able to log in daily :)  I also had to give up my gym membership due to finances, so this will challenge me to get off my behind and get outside.  The weight bearing will be tough for me as I no longer have the gym, but I plan to check out the FIT-TV channel and see if they have any shows I can TIVO~maybe I can find something there to help in that regard...

Laura - I just noticed the South Florida comment!  I'm in Southwest Florida and formerly lived in Boynton Beach.  Both areas have dodged the "2008 Hurricane Bullets" thus far!  God willing, this continues! - jane

Re: September Nutrition and Exercise Challenge - Are 10 More People Interested?

    Hi Jane,

Yes, you can count me in.  I have been MIA for a few weeks, as has Carol Joy.  Thanks for continuing the challenges.  I will try to find out what's up with C.J.  She is definately missed by us all.

I need to get back into the swing of things, I have gained some weight over the last month, due to not exercising regularly and eating poor choices.

I'm starting today (Tuesday) with The Firm DVD and starting to use the nutrition log again.

    Thanks again,

    Carol
