Lunch on the go ideas, requiring no utensils or warming up for 600 cals/19 grams fat?

     Hi all!

My new work schedule is hectic and right now I can not sit and eat lunch while I am there (long story).. that might change but right now its just not possible.  I eat breakfast at home at about 6am.  Sometimes I have a small snack around 10:30 then I leave  work at 1 and am in the car for at elast 1 hour and 15 minutes.  So if I do not eat while in the car I do not eat until at least 2:15.  By then I am ravenous and want to eat everything I can get my hands on (not good!!).  So I have been taking a lunch consisting of peanut butter and jelly, light bread, light cheese stick and piece of fruit.

The problem is I am going to get very bored of this.  Also, I do not believe that this reaches my calorie target of 600 cals even though it does reach my fat gram goal of 19.

Any ideas for meals that travel well, are about 600 cals/19g fat and delicious?

    Thanks!

    Kerry

Do you have access to a refrigerator at work?  If so you can bring sandwiches/wraps like turkey-cheese or tuna or other item that is portable and easy to eat.  You could also have a breakfast or other meal replacement bar + cheese + fruit as you do now.  Also consider a meal replacement shake like Boost or Ensure + your regular items.

    I hope this helps.

I am also frustrated by what to eat at lunch. I drive in my car all day for work and bring an insulated lunch bag with 4 ice packs but the car gets hot and those ice packs dont stay cold all day and of course i have no access to a microwave in my car. Dont want to stop at fast food every day even if i do get healthy choices because of the money. Any ideas to not get bored with pb&j would be appreciated.

Good!  Keep in mind that it's important to have the calories and fat for your level.  So if you have an Ensure for lunch you'll most like likely need to add something to round out the meal.  A whole grain roll with peanut butter; or some fruit and LF yogurt might do the trick to get you to the right numbers.

You can try some of the ideas mentioned earlier and, with the weather getting cooler, you can bring a thermos of hot soup, chili or stew + whole grain crackers + some fruit and you'll be set.

Check the menu at Taco Bell.  All calorie info is on their website, and the food travels well.  I eat it at least a couple of times a week.  Tampabayb
