    olestra and alli

Without too many details, lets just say that I had some fat free chips that contained olestra with a meal that did fall within my total fat gram limits and boy did I pay for that a few hours later. I had been craving some chips and decided to have the fat free version. I have had these many times in the past with no consequences from the olestra. This was the first time I had the chips during a meal that I had taken an Alli pill. It wasnt treatment effects--no oily orange stuff. Has anyone else not been able to have a meal with olestra containing products and the alli pill? Let me know. Thank goodness I was off work yesterday. JJ

    Re: olestra and alli

    Hi downto200,

Your experience with chips containing olestra does make sense and will be noted.  Even though olestra claims to be non-fat it is made up of fat which will not be absorbed add this to the unabsorbed fat from an alli meal, your GI tract had(unabsorbed) waste that needed to be eliminated.

I pulled this from the Olean, branded olestra, FAQ's:

Olean is made from ingredients found in common foods like vegetable oil and sugar. Then, it’s processed in a way that adds zero fat to the snacks you love. Since Olean is not digested, it’s similar to eating foods like apples, corn and bran, where the insoluble fiber is not broken down by the body. So, when you eat Olean snacks, the Olean passes through the digestive tract without adding any dietary fat or calories. And, because Olean molecules are much larger than those of ordinary fats, the body's digestive enzymes cannot break them down.

    Best of health.

    Re: olestra and alli

JJ, you asked about other people's experiences, so I'll add mine.  I searched this board for info and a few people said they ate them in moderation, so I tried it.  I have eaten a small serving of olestra chips with Ali meals without difficulty.  Of course everyone is different.  Sorry to hear of your reaction.
