COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

I have been on Alli since July 29th, doing all the things I'm supposed to, even exercise 5-6 times a week. I have not lost a single pound not one, and I gained 3. I really need the truth, it's been seven weeks and hard for me to believe it takes this long for Alli to kick in. I'm not one that is looking gfor the magic pill and I feel I've been very patient. It's hard reading the post where people are complaining about only having lost 5lbs or 7lbs, reason being they feel off and ate the too much, try not losing anything. Would someone please be honest with me and tell me it is possible Alli does not work. I just can't see it taking this long, people have lost 20lbs in the time frame I've been on it and lost NOTHING.

    I am highly favored !

I started ALLI at 203 and have dropped 14lbs in 1 month I dropped more weight then that 6 month period without Alli. I do follow the plan I dont give in to temptations. I have been exercising. I wish I could help you. Dont give up. Amanda

Favored13, I'm sorry that you are having difficulty losing.  You must be very frustrated.  Have you been weighing and/or measuring all portions?  Using the nutrition log?  Following the calorie and fat recommendations?  If you are carefully following the program without results, perhaps you should consult your physician.

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

I didn't lose anything when I was new to Alli.  I had to drop my calories and fats twice to lose weight.  The experts recommend trying the recommended calories, fats and carbs and if that doesn't work, then drop 200 calories, if that doesn't work, drop 200 calories again.  About a month had past before I dropped the calories for the second time, then I finally lost a couple of pounds.  For the most part, I stopped taking the pills and followed the lower calorie recommendations, have a few more healthy fats then recommended and keep my carbs down around 100-120 g per day, and, like you, I keep up an exercise routine.  I track nutrition and cardio workouts on the Alli website logs and this helps me stay on track. This gets me a slow weight loss.

I take Alli pills at the occasional unhealthy-fat meal and I don't get treatment effects from taking them (if I take them 3 times a day, unless I overeat on carbs, I get treatment effects).  I've lost about 35 lbs. in 2 years and 2 months. About half of that came after taking Alli but I've actually lost more weight when I'm not taking Alli pills or taking very little of them.  What Alli did for me is help me make a lifestyle change.  I know other people take the pills and the weight just falls off, but it doesn't work that way for me.  So you're not the only person who doesn't get the desired result!!  Wishing you health, encouragement and hope (and, eventually, weight loss)! - Jane

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

Favored,  I had experience with the alli first team last year before Alli became available to the public.  One of the members during the four months had a problem exactly like yours.  What was discovered was that she was NOT EATING ENOUGH and her body was basicly in starvation mode. Two weeks after increasing what she was eating she began losing weight.  Based on the amount of exercise your getting you most likely need to increase your caloric intake as your body thinks your starving so its saving as much as possible to keep you alive. Try increasing the amount of calories you take in by about 200 to 300 more per day and see if you don't start losing lbs.  Also, make sure your drinking water throughout the day to ensure your not dehydrated.

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

Favored13 ... you don't state how much weight you started the program with (or wanting to lose).

You say that you have done all the things your suppose to do - have you stuck to your calories and eaten enough fat grams?  That is SOOO important on this program.  I would also start a journal of EVERYTHING you put into your mouth - along with that, take your measurements.  I have been known not to lose weight but I've lost inches (ok - maybe centimeters but I've lost just the same hahaha)

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

    Hi Favored13,

I just responded to a couple of your posts about this on the real alli stories board. Here is one of my responses:

I am sorry to hear that you are still not having any success with this. As I have mentioned in other posts to you, weight loss is all about calories. Alli will not cause you to gain weight, but consuming too many calories will. The fact that you are stil not losing means that you are consuming too many calories for your body. You can cut back by 200 calories or go to http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm to get your maintenance calories. Once you have that number you subtract 500 calories per day to lose 1 lb per week. If you have already done this and are still not losing then I recommend that you make an appointment to see your doctor. There are medications and medical conditions that could interefere with weight loss so that may be what is happening with you.

My other post addressed the question that Sher asked. I do not see any information about how much you weigh or how tall you are. I know that you are in the military and looking to lose some inches around your waist. Unfortunately, this may not be the plan for you if you are not overweight or obese.

If you would like to share more information I will do what I can to help,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

I was in the same boat. I was watching what I ate and increased my activities and NOTHING. So for the last week I still took my pills, but basicly ate what ever I wanted and I dropped 3lbs! I know it doesnt make sense to eat more to lose more, but for some reason its working. Dont get me wrong, I still try and watch my fat intake. Those treatment effects can be a real pain the butt, LOL!

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

I'm kind of in the same boat.  I did lose 4lbs the first weigh in but the last 2 weeks I've lost nothing.  I've followed the plan and I workout 5-6 days a week. I started at 206 I'm now 202 and I'm 5'7" and 38 years old.  I went on the website that Betty suggested and it said for weight loss I should be at 1903 calories and for exreme weight loss at 1608.  I've been eating about 1500-1600 per day.  I have trouble get in all my fat because of treatment effects.  But I'm having at least 10g with each main meal.  The choices I am making are very healthy.  What am I doing wrong??

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

A hint to get some of the "fats" in your daily meals, use real mayo, butter, a few nuts, peanut butter, etc.  If you're having yogurt - add some flax seed to it.

Re: COULD SOMEONE PLEASE BE HONEST WITH ME????

    Hi Kamoore921,

They told me it was CRUCIAL to meet the fat grams per meal (I'm at 19g per meal) because otherwise, you are getting TOO MANY CALORIES from OTHER sources and you will not lose weight.  If you are eating the correct amount of fat grams you should not have treatment effects.  Treatment effects occur when you have a meal that is higher in fat grams than what's recommended.  Are you weighing and measuring and writing down your food?  That was important for me so I could see how many fat grams I was eating.  Today is 128 for me, yesterday I earned the 30 pound badge.  I workout 5 times a week also, 45 minutes each session.  Good luck!  Tampabayb
