    This doesn't feel like it's working.  After months of either losing weight or at least mintaining my weight loss, I gained 4 lbs. last week right after I went off the meds like my doctor told me to.  I'd say "it's just fluid" but my blood pressure is holding steady and my ankles are not swollen.  It's weird.  I was waiting for the excess weight to just go away as mysteriously as it found me but I guess I'm just going to have to re-lose those lbs. the hard way ;-( !!

    Jane - Please don't be discouraged!! I know how hard it is to not judge our progress and goals by that number on the scale, but that is not the deciding factor in our journey.  Remember, you are SO much healthier!  That should be our main objective, although I know that I sometimes let the scale rule as well. Celebrate your healthy success now and continue on...those stubborn pounds will come off !!

    I am doing a running program with Hubb - working up to a 5K run in January. Last evening we progressed to 3 miles total, a combination of running and walking in segments....it was not as difficult for me as I had figured it might be when we left and I am not as sore as I thought I would be today.  My scale also does not show me losing this week, and it should with the extra cardio and I have been exactly on target all week in Nutrition - I weigh in tomorrow....oh well.... I am focusing on my success and endurance so I can perservere and continue on..... WE CAN DO THIS!!!

    Laura - Your running successes sound awesome. Congrats on your successes.  Maybe the scale hasn't budged because your gaining some muscle and that will help you more in the long run.  The scale did drop 1/2 lb. this morning (for no apparent reason - yesterday wasn't significantly better than the last several days - but I'll take any improvement I can get ... with or without a logical reason!).  Thanks for the encouragement ... I really needed it.

    Attempt at Final Update

     I'm going to try to figure out our points.  Since the site has been up and down and our updates may or may not have posted, a lot of our posts are out of sequence.  So I'm going to go through and try to update everything.  This has been a confusing and weird month for me.  I was delighted when my doctor cut my blood pressure meds back by 2/3 but I've gained about 1 lb. per day every day since she did.  I know Laura is having some success both at weight loss and at getting healthy.  I hope everyone else felt they had some successes during the month, too.  More later ...

    Hi Everyone!  

    Here's the totals that I came up with through Oct 29 (the final day of the challenge).  Melissa, based on your one post, I counted a "2" for everyday of the last two weeks.  It looks like Sandy stopped posting after Oct 19, maybe she gave up because of the problems with Alli's site or maybe her work schedule made it too difficult for her to post.  All of us have at least one day's post missing; probably because of problems with the site (I don't recall missing a post, and I'm missing posts for 3 days). 

    Kathy and Laura - it looks like you're both doing great ... Laura, you have your running program on track, and, Kathy, your staying active even though the seniors in your life need your help and you're dealing with a divorce.  It sounds like the leaves in your life present a challenge and a real health opportunity, too!!

    I'm discouraged ... my work remains as busy and hectic as ever, I have muscle spasms in my neck and jaw and ever since my doctor reduced my blood pressure meds, I gained 7 lbs. in 6 days, so, obviously, I've got to go see her and see what she recommends.  I lose weight so slowly that 7 lbs. represents months of weight loss work. 

    If Alli's site is reliable, I'd like some sort of challenge in November but I don't think that I'm the one to do the tracking, or, at least, not all the tracking.  Melissa helped out the first month that we did this but that was pre-Hurricane Ike and prior to her new job.  

    What does everyone want to do?  I've been reading some posts over in the "50s" forum.  Apparently, there's one person, "Sherry 50" who assists members with health and weight loss advice.  Do you think it might be a good thing if we had a November challenge, did some tracking-sharing and moved over to the '50s" forum to do it?

    hi everyone I think you have all done fabulous lets keep up the great work.....

    Jane don't get discouraged...remember that you are gaining muscle vs weight..... and your body fluctauates each day....

    I remind you becaues it helps to remind myself....i have gained a lb one week lost 2 the next then gained 3 it is sooooo very frustrating....but my clothes are looser so something is working.....with the new job it has been very hectic and only going to get worse in the next few weeks...but I definitely need the support I get from each of you and these challenges...

     

    shall we try a november challenge ....say begining nov 4 tues election day and go thru to the day prior to thanksgiving  the 26th....a 23 day challenge to elect new changes in our selves.......

    maybe we each set a personal goal for ourselves, either physical, mental or emotional....and this can be accomplished by the end of the challenge......

    get outside and walk each day as well as some cardio a few times a week.... remember to post daily and include your nutrition and weigh in for points.......

    as well as continue to be there for each other.....

     hey  ladies... i want to thank each one of you for your support during this difficult time for me... i really have not been doing any formal excercise on a regular basis because of all of my personal issues with my folks,my hip and all of my yardwork that had to be done.. my divorce is in the works.. i saw an attorney on friday and she is going to get it going.. i really dont think there is much to fight over.. so i think that it will be over soon.. my weight has been going down in spite of not working out... my intake has been less and lets face it leaf raking and bagging is alot of work. it has to burn off a fair amount of calories anyway..

        i am up for another challenge... but maybe we dont really need any points... we can touch base at least 3 times a week and update our progress..there isnt that many of us right now.. and i know i do not have time to track anything besides my own stuff... between my job,my kids, and my parents and my impending divorce i really have my hands full.. but i look forward to keeping touch with all of you... i know i have not been at my best  lately, so maybe i can work on that and incorporate that into making Nov better..  thanks..... kathy

    Thanks for all your work Jane...

     And yes, I did get tired of battling the problems with the site.  I couldn't get anything to post, so I quit trying.

    I have kept exercising but have not lost a thing.  Discouraging.

    Kathy - Wishing you the best during these hard times that you're going through.  Hopefully, your soon-to-be-ex will cooperate and not make your divorce difficult or contentious.  I've been reading the "50s" board and plan to introduce myself so I'll "see" you over there.

    Melissa - Thanks for the encouragement.  I have the normal up or down a lb. or 2 and consider that normal.  Yesterday, I was up a total of 7.2 lbs. in a little more than a week.  My blood pressure was up somewhat and I had some signs of some fluid retention.  I took the diuretic for the first time in over a week and my weight decline 5.8 lbs. overnight.  Based on my improved blood pressure, a daily diuretic is over-medicating but no diuretic appears to be too little.  I'm going to take the diuretic every other day for a week or two and take the results to my general practioner; I'll see if she thinks that's a good plan. 

    Sandy - Since you travel a lot for your work, your schedule is probably crazy plus you're probably dependent on restaurant meals so that probably makes it harder for you to lose.

    Kathy, Laura, Melissa and Sandy - I posted a proposed November challenge to your attention that basically follows Melissa's suggestions.  Melissa suggests we start election day, so we elect to take care of ourselves and lose weight!

    I like that.... though I may be down but not out for a few days.  I think I overdid my ab workouts and strained my back.  Went to the doctor today, hopefully it won't take too long to heal.
