    So I slipped...what now?

Just started taking alli last week and was going strong.  But today there was a pot luck at work.  I had good intentions, but I slipped anyway and I know I hate way more than I should have.  Don't plan on eating any more today, but do I just accept the slip and move on on or have I ruined everything?  It's times like this I get angry at myself.  I want to be more in control!

     Grier160,

Don't beat yourself up! One slip up won't ruin everything. Just brush yourself off and start again with your next meal.

    YOU WILL DO IT!

Temptations are so mean! You cant worry about the past, just look to the future. I think everytime I starte a new eating plan I slipped once or twice. But as long as you get back to the plan you will do fine. I try to plan for temptations as best I can. Sometimes I cant, but when I know I try to carry something good to eat like if I go to my parents and I know they are eating a big fat meal, I go to subway and get a sanwich and baked lays. That way I feel rewarded by eating something yummy, but it is within my plan. Also, I try to drink a lot of water before I go there so I will feel full, at least for a while. Stay strong and you will do great!

    Best wishes,

    Erica

    Re: So I slipped...what now?

sounds like a conversation i've had many, many times (with myself) during my weight loss journey. i WANT to be more in control. but, some days i fail miserably. (like yesterday, for example.)

yes, you just accept the slip and move on. you have NOT ruined everything. the only way you fail is if you quit. and you're not gonna do that.

in the big picture....you will not go the rest of your life without an office potluck, or a doughnut, or a slice of pizza. eating these things does not mean you've failed. they are part of life. when there is a special occasion or a celebration...join in (in moderation). then, back on the wagon.

be kind to yourself. treat yourself the way you'd treat your best friend if she slipped up.

    :-)

    Hey Grier

No need to get upset We all have slip ups at times its called being human :) the one of many things I love about alli is IF you feel yourself Falling off the weight loss horse You can get back on it and start Alli all over again. It will  be fine dont beat urself up about it. Your eating habits wont change overnight it takes time. just keep in mind if you over exceed your fat intake you will get a treatment affect thats something you want to avoid at all cost because those are NOTHING nice.

    Re: So I slipped...what now?

Slipping is just a part of life.  I try and plan for my "slips".  But if I slip a bit more then planned then I try and up my work up and just move on.  I am trying to eat like a "thin person".  Thin people allow themselves to enjoy a food event.  They don't beat themselves up.  They just realize that depriving themselves just makes them want something more.  Give in a bit knowing that it is for one meal, then you are right back on track having handled it well.  My problem in the past has been ok well I slipped, give it all up don't even try any more.

Welcome to the club. I don't think there is one person reading this that has not been where you are. My company had a potluck on Halloween. I was in charge of organizing it. Talk about pressure. Here I am trying to plug in crock pots, set out casseroles, desserts and meat & cheese trays, and knowing that almost everything I was looking at (except for the veggie tray) was not a good choice.  You start to think that one taste of the cheese casserole or a small spoonful of the wieners swimming in sauce couldn't hurt - until you're making the mad dash for the restroom because all the small tastes or little spoonfuls add up to a whole bunch of trouble. Don't give up. It's like trying to commute to work in the morning. Sometimes you run into traffic but you get to your destination eventually. Sometimes you just need to take the scenic route.

If I quit when I slip I will never get to where I am going.  I can't do this, or any other program, PERFECTLY, so I just keep going and am grateful the slips aren't more frequent!  Tampabayb
