Re: 2 week no weight loss

Some people may not see weight loss for a week or so, but after two full weeks you should see something.

In cases like this I recommend that people weigh and measure their food for at least a week.  It's very, very easy to underestimate portion sizes -- and that will throw off the numbers.  Both calories and fat count on the alli Program and it's important to stay close to the recommended amounts for your level.

Measuring is also a great lesson in what portion sizes LOOK like, and that's very helpful when eating out.

In addition, people will cut their fat and/or calorie intake thinking this will give them a faster weight loss.  Not so with alli!  It may actually slow down weight loss.  There are two great posts at the top of this message board about why calories and fat are so important.  It's great information; take a look when you get a chance.

In the meantine, start measuring and let me know if you need anything else.

I do weight and count everthing i eat. I log it in on alli and i dont try to cut fat or calories but sometimes 1800 calories a day is to much for me to eat. This is why I am confused. I had my thyroid check and it is ok. I have though very hard on why the first week i lost and did not exerise and second i gain and i walk everday.  i am doing everything is the same for both weeks. I am so sorry but this is very hard to except since i worked so hard this week

I have been using Alli for about a year and have only lost about 10 pounds.  I watch what I eat and try and exercise on a regular basis.  I am getting frustrated because I thought I would have lost more weight by now.  I don't know if I should continue using Alli.

That's great that you weigh and measure everything!  Keep that up for as long as you can.  I know it can be a chore but it's really worth it!

Now that I know this, I suspect you are retaining water.  That can be hormonal (especially if you're a woman and you're premenstrual).  The other thing that causes water retention is too much salt and sodium.  Check your Nutrition Logs and see what your sodium has been each day.

The recommended amount is 2,300 milligrams - or less - per day.  If you're having 3,000 or more then you're probably retaining water.  If your sodium IS high check the foods that have the most and see if you can make substitutes.  Ususally the high sodium items are canned soups; bottled salad dressings, frozen entrees and fast food (though there's lots more).

    Does that help?

It's hard to say why your weight loss has been slow.  However, part of how much (and how fast) people lose depends on their starting weight.  The more someone has to lose the faster it will go -- at least in the beginning -- and then it tapers off to a slower loss.

In addition, the closer once gets to goal weight the slower weight loss becomes.  That's the body's natural protective mechanism holding onto calories and fat in the event of starvation (not likely, I realize, but the body is very protective!).

There may also be underlying medical or hormonal reasons that slow down weight loss, so if you haven't had a thorough physical with complete blood and urine work you should schedule and appointment soon.  You may want to do that before purchasing more capsules.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Re: 2 week no weight loss

I had the same thing happen to me. One week I didn't exercise at all, and the very next week exercised everyday and stayed on track. The week I exercised I didn't lose any weight at all.  Didn't make any sence to me either. Maybe you don't drink enough water, try that?  Will you be my online support buddy? I need some support with this hard job of losing weight !!!

It is also important to remember that the scale should not just be your only source. Do your clothes feel looser? Remember muscle weighs more then fat. Good Luck!!

This is a really good point!  Many people mention their clothes fit better (or are loose!), they feel better, have more energy, take less medication (or stop some like BP meds).  So there are definitely many barometers for weight loss.
