    Understanding the treatment effects

I started Alli on Monday and now it's Thursday.  I am having the orange oily bowel movements (sorry so graphic).  Does that mean that the pills are doing their job and emptying my body of the fat?  Does it mean that I have eaten something with alot of fat in it?  I am new and I am trying to understand what's going on.

    Thanks

    Re: Understanding the treatment effects

I think that means that you have had excess fat in your diet, I started this program in December and have not seen any orange at all, I have eaten low fat and high fat and have not had any TE's, I am not sure the program is working for me.

    Re: Understanding the treatment effects

I haven't started the alli yet, just bought it today. (Thursday) I must confess that I like to have beer or wine several times a week, and sometimes way more than one.  This is certainly part of the issue with my 7 pounds excess fat and flabbiness.  I know that starting a healthy eating plan will force me to pair the drinking down and motivate me to start exercising again.

My main concern is how the alli will possibly handle the beer and wine (or vodka if it is my friend?)  Any input here?

    Re: Understanding the treatment effects

    Hi Mleech,

The orange oil that you see when you are having a bowel movement could just be the fat being excreted. When you are excreting oil in an uncontrollable way that would be a treatment effect. Make sure that you are keeping track of everything that you eat and staying within your recommended amount of fat for each meal.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Re: Understanding the treatment effects

    Hi Lakisok,

There have been many posts about alcohol. Alli will only work on fat that you consume. Alcohol is not fat so alli will not do anything to it. If you have a drink with fat in it (e.g. cream) then alli will excrete 25% of the fat. You need to count the calories in the alcohol as part of your total for the day or you will not lose weight.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Re: Understanding the treatment effects

I started alli on Jan. 11 so far I have had no TE, I have on a couple times however seen a small amout of orange oil drops but nothing to amount to anything.  I have lost 12 pounds so far and I watch and count all my fat grams and cal. my biggest problem sence I started alli is going to the bathroom, I  have been adding benifiber to my water, and mirlax, the only way I go is to take a laxitive.  I was off this weekend so I tested my alli yesterday we had BBQ, & slaw, I made two meals out of my plate (dinner & supper) I had no clue how to account for the cal & fat grams, I thought  well maybe it will give me a TE....nothing, today we had beef & onion thin crust pizza, I ate 2 BIG slices .....so far nothing, tonight I just ate a pack of low fat peanut butter crackers and a apple.  Dont get me wrong Im not asking for punishment, I just don't understand why its not affecting me?  Im on a 1200 cal. diet 12 fat grams per meal.  Any Idea what Im doing wrong?

Yes, i believe that is the t.e.'s and it could be a lot of excess fat from your food. it takes a little while for your body to adjust but it won't always be like that. they say to count your calories and average/count your fat grams from 15 to 19 per meal, on average 15 grams per meal. I'm allowed 19 due to my weight and size. everyone is different, but it sounds like your off to a good start.

    Re: Understanding the treatment effects

My body can't make its mind up, Im at that inbetween menapause with all the hot flashes, mood swings, and then 3 or 4 months later its back. I wish it would quit and stay gone.  I think that had alot to do with me this week I gained 2 pounds and wanted more to eat, But I did manage to work the two pounds back off, but I could not get that third pound off in time to weigh in, so Im at the same weight as last week.  Maybe next week will be better, I am going to make myself drink more water too.

I have had the same problem, so what should we do. I actually quit taking the Alli. And taking the miralax and metamucil.
