    real eggs vs. egg beaters

My whole family is eating meals on the plan.  We tried egg beaters and I have to say "thumbs down", we can't stand them.  I know a lg. real egg has approx. 5 g fat.  I bought medium real eggs and we have probably 3-4 a week.  Is there any way that this is okay?  I have been pretty strict in regards to portions and calories.  Should I omit LF cheese when we have eggs, or the milk?  Just wanted a professional opinion.  Thankx

Not the professional, but real eggs are fine and good for you.  Just keep your entire meal in your fat gram allowance take the Alli pill and you should be fine.  I perfer whole eggs.  Not only do they taste better, and less expensive, they have more nutritional value than egg beaters or just the whites.

I eat eggs frequently my fat limit is 19 grams a meal so I could up to 3 large eggs.  I usually only eat two, actually I've been only wanting one lately-  I make up the rest of the fat grams by adding LF cheese, other lean protein (turkey bacon, candian bacon, lean ham etc), avocado etc.  If I only have one egg I usually have about 10 grams to spare and will have a half serving of nuts with my breakfast-

Glad to hear your whole family is eating the same meals!  There's no reason to be planning and/or preparing separate orders.  The alli diet is similar to the American Heart Association and the Dietary Guidelines so everyone will be healthy. :o)

Real eggs are fine; there's no reason to have eggbeaters -- unless there's a cholesterol (heart disease) problem.  Egglands Best Eggs are whole eggs and hens get a special diet so the eggs have 25% less saturated fat and cholesterol than regular and, whatever it is, I think they taste a lot better!  But eggs of your preference are fine just be sure - as Kelly mentioned - to keep the whole meal within your alli guidelines.

If no one in the family has a problem with high cholesterol readings you can use the LF cheese and milk (I assume that's 1% or skim, yes?).

Please let me know if you need more.

Re: real eggs vs. egg beaters

I eat real eggs too and have never had any intention of substituting factory concocted egg beaters. Thanks for telling us that the egg beaters don't taste very good. With people in their current non-fat mode, it's scary to even mention the word egg yolk, or even worse - fat. But I think more people here eat real eggs than actually openly discuss the topic.

The human body needs a little bit of cholesterol, and if we don't ingest it, the body will produce it. So one may as well eat a couple of eggs now and then. Plus, egg whites, once out of the shell, are good for only about 5 days (egg yolk are good for only 1-2 days). So if egg beaters are made of real egg whites, I can't see how they can last so long unless they have some sort of preservative added. So better get real food from the real source, preservative free, and as fresh as possible.

There is never a legitimate reason to eat when you are not physically hungry or to eat past satisfaction. --Susie Orbach

    Taste everything; finish nothing.

You keep food from going to waste by putting it on your waist.

You can't eat now to satisfy a hunger yet to come.

There is no trying; only doing. There is no becoming; only being.

How did you prepare the eggs?  I love egg beaters!!!  Also, EB are made with real eggs.  Maybe you should go to their website and read exactly what they are.  They are NOT concocted eggs....

Re: real eggs vs. egg beaters

I don't think they taste bad, they are actually good tasting, I just think whole fresh eggs taste better and are more economical-  even if all you use are the whites and toss the yolks from a carton of eggs, they are still cheaper than egg beaters.    I personally try to eat more whole foods and fewer altered foods.  Everyone has their perferences and pick their own battles to fight.  I want to take the pill with breakfast so I make sure I'm getting all my fat.
