    alli and pizza!

I found that I can still eat pizza and take alli...and not have any treatment effects.  I've had 4 or 5 pieces of thin crust pizza from a couple local Chicago pizza places and have not had any treatment effects.  I've purposefully skipped the grated cheese thinking that could push it over the edge.  But it's nice to know that I can eat something I like and stick with the plan.  It's all a matter of finding the right balance.

    Re: alli and pizza!

Uno's has great flatbread pizza... look on their online menu.  their spinach, feta and muschroom pizza is 250 calories for 1/3 of the pizza...  the flatbread now comes in white or wheat, so you can get more grains.  I have been eating more whole wheat, and actually like ii better now.

    It's all about planning ahead!

    Re: alli and pizza!

I work next door to a great pizza place here in NY.  I'd LOVE to have a slice but I'm scared, I don't want to ruin my progess or have treatment effects.  I tried healthy choice french bread pizza and its pretty good.  only 5g fat.

I also never thought I'd be one of those people to dab the pizza with napkins!!  lol.  I think when ever I do have one I will try to soak up all the oil with napkins...  :)

    Re: alli and pizza!

I love authentic, greasy pizza, loaded with pepperoni!  But just to think of it now, makes my tummy grumble (Alli's reminding me of the consequences)!  I know better than that!!!  lol

Man that sounds sooo gooooood!!  I used to dip the crust in the oil drippings!  We will not give in to temptation.  It's not worth the consequence.

    Re: alli and pizza!

Hi pam. While it's okay to go off it sometimes and have things you shouldn't... I wouldn't recommend searching for ways to cheat and not have consequences. Alli is all about learning to make healthy choices and changing your lifestyle. Not seeing what you can get away with. Thin crust or not you likely went well over your fat and calories having the pizza. Cheese will take you over in no time. No treatment effects doesn't mean it's a good meal!

    Re: alli and pizza!

Hi girls...I adjust my Friday meal plan to include Pizza since it's Lent (no meat..) - I haven't had ANY consequences, either from our local pizzeria or Pizza Hut - we usually get the thin crust from the local eatery and the pan from Pizza Hut.

I really enjoy pizza, but just writing about it right now is making me nauseus, as I've been pretty ill all day - HOPING I will be able to enjoy it tomorrow!

Good Luck - keep up the good jobs girls!

    Re: alli and pizza!

     Hi Everyone,

My husband made homemade pizza tonight...I didn't go over my cals for the day but sure went over my fat intake of 12g per meal....it was 20g for 2 slices.  I don't make a habit of this.  This is the exception not the rule. It is not worth messing up all the hard work I am doing to shed the pounds.

Good luck on your journey's everyone!

    Re: alli and pizza!

     Hey girls,

There is definately nothing wrong with having the occasional piece of pizza. I have 3 boys so we used to have pizza once a week. We now still have pizza a few times a month. I always order the hawiian pizza with tomatoes for me (my husband has to have pepporoni, so we get it half and half). I usually have 1 piece with a large salad, if I am still hungry I will have a second slice, but I always start with 1 and usually it fills me up. (I used to eat about 4 slices at a time, now I am used to smaller portions) I have lost 40 pound in less than 4 months doing this, so I know it is definately possible to eat pizza and still lose weight as long as you take your pill and control your portion size!

    Re: alli and pizza!

Pizza really gets a bad rapp.  It can actually be quite healthy if it's not loaded down with greasy meats and tons of full fat cheese.  We still enjoy pizza here 2-4 times a month.  We don't typically order out (even before Alli), but do homemade or frozen.  I just look for ones that are low in calories and fat for a decent serving size.  My husband did something earlier in the week that was kind of cool.  He cut the pizza into 12 slices instead of 8.  For the pizza, i had already calculated that I could have 1/4 of it or 2 slices, but because of how he cut it, I got three.  Yes it was the same amount, but there was something about picking up 3 separate slices that was more satisfying.  I suppose it made me slow down so I could savor it just a little more.

Change happens one choice at a time.

    Re: alli and pizza!

I have avoided dining out for Pizza or ordering my fave (Papa Johns).  I just can't eat 1 slice. So I have another alternative to Pizza.  I eat the Hot Pocket Crossiant Pizza along with a spinach salad loaded with veggies. I don't experience any treatment effects either.

    Re: alli and pizza!

At home I can assemble a pizza using lowfat cheese, then I eat one slice.  I've recently discovered an inexpensive pizza restaurant close to my office.  At lunch, I get a single slice from a large pizza.  I either get the mushroom or the veggie.  I always count it as a "veggie pizza" on Alli's site (there is no 'mushroom pizza" choice).  If I'm still hungry, I eat an apple or drink one of those 17-gram protein drinks.  This particular restaurant's pizza does not have grease floating on it.  If I'm traveling and I need to eat something, for example, from a mall food court, I'll get a piece of pizza.  If it has grease floating on it, I use paper napkins and soak up the floating grease.  I read some where that that can soak up 50 to 60 calories, so that sounded good to me! - Jane

    Re: alli and pizza!

Depends on the pizza and how much you eat. One of those Lean Cuisine microwavable pizzas are ok. But I've gotten the TE's by only having 2 slices of a cheese only thin crust pizza from Pizza Hut. If you have more time and like to cook, making your own pizzas are the best because you can control how much oil, cheese and other toppings you have (or don't have.)

    Re: alli and pizza!

Most mozarella is low fat at everyday markets and at restaurant supply stores, so I imagine many pizza places use the low fat variety. (Watch out for Pizza Hut though. Although I don't normally order from them, I read on a blog of someone who had worked at all the pizza chains, including Pizza Hut and Domino's, that Pizza Hut has the greasiest pizza, whereas Domino's was okay, though I don't know if it was okay in Alli standards.) A private authentic/gourmet pizza joint ought to be fairly reliable though, and thanks for sharing you are having good experiences with such a place.
