Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hi Kaye. I know what you mean about learning to write everything down. I have a lot of trouble doing that too.  Hope you have a great time on your vacation.

I did not have a good week. I over did my eating at Easter and need to get back on the program. I didn't lose anything this week.  I had  two days of treatment effects which should have told me to get back on the program quick. Today wasn't as bad. So tomorrow I am really going to get back on board. I am going to start writing down everything I put into my mouth. Hopefully that will make me more aware what I am eating. Hope everyone had a nice Easter and did well with their weight lose this week.

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

I'm baaaack!  Whew, what a week!!  Last Wednesday, I had to put my 15 year old poodle down.  On Tuesday, he had two seizures within two hours.  One of those seizures was on my lap.  I hated to see him suffer like that, and he had other issues associated w/ old age.  I really, really  miss him.  :(  Thursday I travelled to watch my granddaughters for a day.  I brought all my food w/ me and made dinner for them using one of the recipes from my food plan.  They loved the chicken and it kept me on track.  Saturday was b'day day, we celebrated my husband & son's b'day.  I made cupcakes for everyone, but steered clear of those.  The hardest obstacle on Saturday was that we went out to eat at "Friendly's".  I kid you not, they have no healthy choices on that menu.  Even their salads were loaded w/ calories & fat.  I chose a grilled chicken ceasar salad w/ low cal dressing on the side.  I ate the romaine & chicken, while steering clear of the croutons.  Easter Sunday, hubby suprises me w/ a plethera of goodies!  There was a plastic egg w/ all kind of peanutbutter goodies in it, an M&M rabbit and a bowl w/ peanutbutter eggs.  I know he meant well.  I thanked him, but have stayed away from the candy.  Those little eggs had 12g of fat for 5 eggs!!!!!  After church, we went for dinner at a friends house.  She is a wonderful hostess and a great cook.  There was soo much food.  I stuck to my plan by allowing myself to have a tablespoon of everything.  She made a special dessert just for me of strawberries & bananas.  That was a dessert I used to eat as a kid and always loved.  Monday and Tuesday have been somewhat normal days and I have had fewer temptations and I have been able to stay on track.  I weighed-in today and lost two pounds this week.  I'm just so thankful to have made it through the week!

I read all the posts while I was MIA and noticed that last week was a challenging week for the majority of us.  This week is a new week and everyday gives us the opportunity to start over.  :)

Welcome to all the newbies!!!  A big welcome to Kaye aka Uncle Pete...lol.  Enjoy your vacation.

I am going to check-out the 50 something board this week, but I will still be posting here as well.

    Have a great week all!!

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

     Hello Gammy,

I am so happy to report that I am going to be a GRANDMOTHER! Yay!!! He is my first and is to be born the end of July, or beginning of August. This is my first "post" ever; on any message board. It is all very confusing and time consuming, but my recent step said I should post a message; so here I am. I work at a computer all day at work, so I never want "on" when I get home. My kids think I am archaeic.(where's the spell-checker?) My daughter texted me "WRUD"; and I thought she didn't know how to spell "rude"! I have been on this diet since January 1st. I am not usually one to set New Year's resolutions, but this year was different... I have a Grandbaby on the way! Yay!!!!!!! So I dieted on my own without Alli for the first 10 pounds that I lost, then I hit a plateau. I could not budge another pound. So, I split a bottle of Alli with a friend at work. I started out with 45 pills and figured that if it didn't work, I would just lose half the money that  I would if I bought it on my own. I have now lost an additional fifteen pounds using Alli. Thank you for the helpful information that you include in your messages. I have not read this whole thread, but your subject line grabbed my attention. I hope that you and your husband have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend; and until then, PEACE (even if there's no quiet!) Grammy2B

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Welcome to the message boards Grammy2B!  Congrats on the grandson that is on the way!  Words cannot express the joy they bring to your life.  I have five grandchildren so far.  The youngest was born in October.  I was able to see all five over the Easter weekend.  We put out a yearly Christmas card with the grandkids on the front.  My kids often ask me what happened to them??  lol    WTG (way to go) on the 25 lb weight loss.  I've only been on Alli for 2 weeks, but feel so much better already.  Make sure and keep us updated on the progress of the pregnancy.

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Welcome to all our newbies. I must have some of those 12 grams of fat eggs locked in the china closet.

Conrats on the gs. We have custody of our 12 year od gs and have had for the last 5 years.

I have to write everything down. #1 I have the brain of a sieve and can't remember from day to day how many grams of fat and egg has. So if I don't write it I'm a gonner. I think I'm doing OK this week but we'll see on Saturday.

And congrats to all of you who lost weight this week. Way to go. Challenging isn't the word, I don't think. It's been even harder this week.

My MIL has decided she is a "winner" in all the junk mail she gets. And she wants to send checks to all these people asking for  those little amounts of money. I'm telling you it took all I had to explain to her that these things are scams. She even got a letter for the "state" which told her they were holding 3 million for her. All she had to do  was write a check for "processing." I tried to explain that If she had won anything there would have been a copy to be submitted to the IRS in addition to our state taxes. We didn't find out all this stuff was going on until she needed a ride to the bank to get a certified check after she had had her hip replaced. Lord only knows how much she's already given away. Ihad to have the "being responsible with her money" talk and hubby wanted me to do it cause he was chicken. Hopefully the rest of the week will be so much better. It has to be, right?

A healthier me is on the way..............join me for the ride.

Hi all you wonderful grandparents and grandparents to be !! My name is Julia.I am 53 and the  mother of four- ages 30, 27, 20 and 10 (the last one is not a typo). I have one grandson 6 1/2 months old. He is in TN and I am in CA and it is really difficult being so far away from him. I am fairly new to the Alli program -it's been about a month now and I have lost 7 lbs so far. I am not very computer literate, but I have been reading all the posts for the last couple of weeks and you all have encouraged me to stick with the plan even though some days have been really rough. I just wanted to say "thank you".

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Grammy1- You get this week's trophy for being the BEST caregiver!  I get tired just reading all you do for EVERYBODY.  Let's see: full time day care provider, custody of 10yr gs, wife, and even taking care of the MIL.  I applaud you for stepping up and taking care of YOU.  Everyday you feel overworked & stressed out, remember that you can better take care of others when you 1st take care of yourself.  I've had to learn that lesson a couple of times at least!  We have a lot of type 2 diabetes in our family.  My Dad has been able to keep his under control by tracking his diet through a food log.

Janice- Welcome to the message boards, the Alli program, and a very supportive group of ladies!  I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Melody- I had to smile at your comment about adopting some grandkids.  This world would be a much better place if we would take more children under our wing.  When my sons were small, we lived in Sweden for 8yrs.  We have also lived all over the US.  I am so thankful for all the people who filled the void for my kids when their grandparents weren't close by.  And yes, I am ready to rumble!!!!!!

Julia- Congrats on your new grandson!  Your heart aches to be far away from them when they are so little, because they change so much in the first few years.  Take full advantage of the internet and encourage your child to post pics of the grandbaby on a regular basis.  WTG, on the 7lb weight loss.  You go girl!!

I am off to the store today to pick up some more Alli.  I'm almost finished w/ my starter pack.  I feel like this is a mini graduation...lol.  I know, I know, it doesn't take much to amuse me!  :)

    Have a Fantasic Friday everyone!!!

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hi Isabelle, Thank you for your kind words. You are a real sweetheart for offering such great encouragement. As I said in my post yesterday, I am very computer illiterate. I am having a hard time understanding how to get my "ticker" from the ticker factory to show up at the bottom of my posts. I get the part on how to create it and that I need a code. My problem is that when I request the code a bunch of boxes with a bunch of codes show up. How in the world do I know which one is for my ticker?  I tried copying and pasting a whole box -that didn't work. I tried copying and pasting one line from one of the boxes-that didn't work either. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Take care, Julia

Hey Julia,  You want to cut & paste the bbCode, NOT the HTML.  It took me a couple of times to get it right. hugs, Isabelle

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

     Hello everyone,

I started Alli today.  I have tried everything and continued to put on weight.  I have fibromyalgia and arthritis and I know the extra weight aggravates these conditions.

I have joined this thread a little prematurely since the grandson isn't due to arrive until June but I feel some grace coming from this group. I am 52 yrs. old. (young)  I'm definitely in grandma mode buying baby gifts and getting ready to spoil the little guy until he smells rotten:)

I'm an encourager and love to recieve encouragement.  Glad to be on the journey with you!
