Hi Lynn I am also new, I started on April 19th, and have lost 8lbs. I also drive a good distance to work and was concerned about treatment effects, so far so good.  I agree with your comment about a motivator, my boss brings in a dozen donuts EVERY day, before it was hard to resist, at first fear kept me away and now I just don't want them.

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

I have been reading all the posts and I agree that there are a lot of wonderful ladies on this site.  You are all so supportive of each other, I sure hope to make a few friends.  I have only lost 2 lbs.  I have really started to watch what I eat.  But temptation is STRONG!!

My husband and I raise birds and I also work outside of the home.  My husband of 43 years is very supportive but thinks losing weight would help with my COPD . I have two children, four grandchildren, and ONE GREAT GRANDSON!! 4 weeks old.  I will be 60 soon I am so out of shape that it takes all I have just to make it through the day.  I want to lose weight and be healthy so that I might be active longer.  I don't like just sitting around.

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

     Hi Sue,

I've lost 15 lbs in 2 months on Alli.  I am 62 today!  I have 4 grandchildren, 4 children (1 still at home, 1 single and 2 married)no great grandchildren. My husband is supportive and very happy I'm losing weight, but I wouldn't choose him to be my buddy, he likes his sweets too much!  I sometimes fall to temptation also, but I've found if I get right back to the plan it really hasn't hindered my weight loss.  My biggest problem is exercise.  I know I could be better if I was only consistant with my exercise. My goal was to lose 37+ lbs. I am retired, but I substitute teach. I also want a healthier lifestyle for myself.  Got to keep up with the grandkids!    Would love to have you as a support buddy

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Clinical studies have shown that weight loss with orlistat, the active ingredient in alli, significantly reduces cardiovascular risk factors and the development of non-insulin dependent diabetes over weight loss with diet and exercise alone.

You can safely use alli and follow the plan when you are diabetic and have hypertension.  The product acts as an inhibitor of the fat digesting enzyme lipase.  There are no appetite suppressants or stimulants, which can adversely affect the body.

Hi, I'm a new Grandma, grandbaby was 6mo. last Sunday.  I never new it would be so rewarding it takes you back and acually makes you fell younger not older!  I started alli 18 days ago I've lost 8 lbs.  The first week I lost 6 then gained a pound back, 2nd week I only lost 1 lb but I didn't walk.  Started walking again this week and lost another 2 lbs.  I'm averaging 1500 cals a day just because thats the way my meals are working out and I've only been hungry a couple of afternoons.  Hang in there I've had a couple rough weekends sticking to it because of my meat eating husband but he's trying to be supportive.  The effects have been minumal compared to the results.

Congrats on being a new grandmother and on the lbs you have lost. I have 2 grandsons and there is nothing more enjoyable.  Nothing like walking a couple of miles while you are pushing a stroller. It just makes it seem so much easier to walk.  I'de be happy to be your buddy.

Happy belated birthday to 1luckylady. And welcome to all you newbies. It's been an awful week and I'd be surprised if I lost an ounce. I haven't stuck to the plan, I've been in super comfort food mode. Guess I need a swift kick. Keep up the good work. Love, Gammy

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

Hey Gammybird1,  aren't we all need to get healthy for so many reasons??!!!!  I started the Alli diet on April 10th and I lost 10 pounds so far!!!!! Most of it lost on the first week (water weight) but I am content with 2 lbs /week after wards.  I have been on many diets before, lost weight but gained back when I got off of it. This time I have a better relationship with food and I am more aware of calories and fat grams I am consuming. The Alli plan deserves its name!! because it became my friend (ally). I eat 3 small meals a day with snack or two.  I make sure I take my Alli with the main meals. I am noticing that I look at food differently now than before..I use less fats in my food preparation, I eat smaller food portions, I drink more water sometimes diluted with lemon or pomegranite juice, I really started to enjoy my meals without GUILT and I am determined to make this approach to food a lifetime habit!!! I guess I also was more encouraged to use Alli by my family doctor  when I asked about dieting help.  I still have my binges which I am working on regularly. But over all, I am satisfied even with slow weight loss. I am more than glad to be your support/buddy if you choose me too and I can use your support and encouragement.  Good Luck

I am not quite 50 yet, but a grandma and beginning today on Alli.  I could use a buddy for yet another step into the world of weight loss.  I lost 65lbs on weight watchers almost 5 years ago and guess what...have gained it all back.  I would love to have some grandma buddies!

Re: I started alli today - Any 50+ grandmas need a buddy?

I've been taking it for a couple of weeks and haven't had any problems. When I went to weigh in on Monday I had gained 1/2 pound. I totally blew off my water over the weekend and ate when I wasn't really hungry. I wasn't happy with the 1/2 pound gain but figured if I wasn't taking the Alli the gain would have been more.

    How have you been doing?
