    12 hours and rotating shifts.

You all seem to have great ideas out there. I am a 51 year old grandma working these rotating shifts, going to school to prepare me for an easier job soon, and watching grandkids on my days off.  My husband(who is disabled) and my daughter(who is handicapped) are the cooks. She loves to deep fry and of course nothing is good if it is not fried. It is very hard not to eat this good food. I seem not to have any self control along with my body not knowing when to eat or sleep. So are there any ideas maybe some of you can come up with. Some days I just want a cold wine cooler.

    Hi Wellroundedgranny,

Welcome to the board! You definitely have a challenging schedule and some tough limitations with your eating. The real key right now is to stick with your recommended amount of fat and calories. You will need to keep track of everything that you eat and drink for a while to see exactly how much you are consuming. You may learn that you can eat some of these foods that your family prepares in smaller portions along with foods that are lower in fat and calories that you can have larger amounts of (e.g. salads, cooked veggies, vegetable soups). You can this on the personal experiences board to reach more people who are in the same situation. There is nothing like support from others who can relate to what you are going through.

I wish you lots of success,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD
