    gained 5 pounds this week!!!!!

I am really confused. I followed the program to the T. Used the nutrition meal planner thing where you write down everything. Came in below my caloris and fat goals, excersied everyday (at least one hour of cardio and/or weight training) and did not miss taking the pills. I don't understand it. What could have happened? I went from 215 to 220!

PS it was the same time of day, the same scale. and I am not about to get my period. I don't get it.

    very disouraged, Betsy

Betsy, you may be gaining muscle as well, this could account for some of the weight gain, check your sdium intake you may have to cut back a little

are you eating your meals too late? it's best to eat the heaviest at breakfast, and light in the evening.

Re: gained 5 pounds this week!!!!!

    Betsy,

I have not followed this diet in the past, but I know from experience you may gain weight before you lose it.  I was on the Biggest Loser Diet, strength trained 2 days a week, and used an eliptical 3-4 times a week and I gained at first.  I would  not worry about it.  I'm sure they will say the same thing.  I'm not saying you did, but if you were eating less calories before your body needs to adjust to it.  Make sure you exercise to because muscle burns fat.

I feel your pain Betsy..You have done great!!!!!  and you will make it...Don't get  down on yourself nor your diet...I  have been on WW for 9 mos.  I learned through that journey that sometimes the scale will slide the wrong and I have learned patients.  Your weight might have slipped up due to the heavy amount of exersize you are doing..I have had weeks like you are but I bet by next week the you will have lost some...Just keep up the good work!!!

Re: gained 5 pounds this week!!!!!

    Hi Betsy,

I don't anyone who would not be discouraged after doing everything that you did and then see a weight gain! The only thing to do right now is to keep on doing what you have been doing. I know that seems crazy based on your results, but it's the only way to know for sure if the plan works for you. Your weight can fluctuate from 2 to 7 lbs in a day. I have had clients weigh themselves in the morning and then at night and actually weigh less at night! If they had not weighed at night they would have been in the same boat as you. Make sure that you are counting every calorie (including all beverages), keep your water intake up, keep your bowel movements consistent with a high fiber intake and don't over do it with the sodium. If you don't see a loss next week we can come with other options for you.

    Hang in there,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

Re: gained 5 pounds this week!!!!!

    Hi Betsy,

I haven't started my plan yet, I will begin tomorrow 6/27... I know the feeling of working hard only to get on the scale and weigh even more! My experience with starting a new program along with excercise (especailly weight training) can cause your muscles to bulk-up and you will weigh more because muscle does weigh more than fat... I have a lot of muscle mass and a larger frame and so I have to be really careful when incorporating activity into my plan. I would suggest starting out with "cardio only" for the first two weeks and then gradually add weight training using very light weights, doing more reps. Hopefully that will help - good luck!

Don't get discouraged! Muscle weighs more than fat. If you're weight training, that's probably why you gained!

Re: gained 5 pounds this week!!!!!

are you doing any type of weight lifting or toning excercises such yoga or pilates?

When I was going to gym I was watching my calorie intake and working my butt off everyday in yoga/pilates class then walking on treadmill and lifting weights. I kept gaining instead of losing at first, I was so discouraged I was about ready to quit. Thinking if I am gonna gain weight sure ain't gonna work my butt off to do it. So I started complaining to my trainer and she said that muscle weighs more than fat and at first you will a weight gain on the scale but it will even out. She even suggested getting one of those fat scales if it would make me feel better. Anyway just a suggestion....by the way she was right it did in fact even out and within a few weeks the weight scale did in fat say I lost.

So don't give up it will in fact even out and all that hard work will pay off.

Keep posting - we are in this together!

    Good luck

Re: gained 5 pounds this week!!!!!

I used to say the same thing that you said and I had to be honest with myself.  Was I really sticking the plan or did I even take one bite of something else.  You can't.  It will throw you off.  Also, if you have a certain amount of calories to stick to you should stick to those.  Don't eat less cause that won't help, especially if you are working out so much.  I found that you have to eat regularly and maybe increase you protein.  Hope its working for you, how are you now?
