    Exercise VS. No Exercise

    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to find out from everyone who's taking Alli, who is actually exercising and who isn't exercising. If you aren't could you please include details of what type of foods you're eating. For those who do exercise, could you give details about what type of exercise you're doing. I just wanted to get an idea of how much weight people are losing doing one or the other. Thanks,

    Crystal

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

Hi Crystal, I've been on the program for two years, lost 55 pounds (gained back ten and working on getting rid of it again), and never exercised much.  I try to walk every day at work for 20 minutes or so, but don't even always do that.  It's really about calories when you get right down to it.  You can burn them off by exercising or eating less.  Of course it's much healthier for you to exercise, but don't think that if you don't you can't lose the weight - you can.

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

I dont exercise I would like to but i do not. I have lost 11 lbs in 3 weeks. I eat a low fat breakfast like cornflakes or some kind of plain cereal with some kind of fruit. I eat a fiber one bar at 10 and have lunch at 12( usually fast food. hamburger with no cheese from mcdonalds or anything off the fesco menu at taco bell) Then I have a fiber one bar at 4 and go home at 5 and cook supper!! I try and eat the best I can but sometime I have frustrations like everyone else!! I hope you have a successful journey and good luck!!

    Kels!!

    Hi Crystal,

I have been using alli for about 2 weeks. I have lost 15pnds. I dont eat breakfast, I eat a salad with everything on it for lunch, and a regular dinner just a smaller portion. I excercise most days in the pool for an hour. I just swim around and

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

I've been taking Alli for over a year, have lost 74 lbs and have learned that exercise every day has to be a part of my routine. I guess I could restrict my calories to 1200 per day but I like to eat enough that I don't feel I'm starving myself, so my calories per day tend to be around 1400 - 1600 per day. In order to burn off those extra calories I do at least 30 minutes of cardio activity (heart rate between 140 and 150) every day. My activities vary between walking my treadmill, biking with my dog, or My Fitness Coach (for the Wii). There are days I do more than that but I try to do at least that much.

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

    Hello!!

I have been on alli since late April and have lost 15lbs so far, at first I did not exercise for about the first 6 weeks, I have just recently started exercising but to no avail right now but again I have only just started. I run/walk 2miles in less than 30mins 4days a week (according to the companion guide this is moderate exercise) with some crutches added in every other day. I keep to my 1200 calories although the companion guide says to eat 1600 calories with that much exercise. For food, I stick with low-fat cereals in the morning with coffee and no fat creamer; for lunch, wraps, sandwiches, subway; for dinner anything that my fiance cooks(he adds up my calories and fat grams per serving to make sure im not over) but in a smaller portion. I hope this helps!!

Indikasmum,  I know this was just a typo, but it made me laugh so much:  "with some crutches added in every other day".  Ha ha, that would just about describe my efforts to exercise!

    Thanks for the laugh,

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

Ive been on alli since october but didnt exercise untill january, it hasnt made much difference to my weight loss but exercise does make a difference to the inches ive lost, i find that sometimes the scales dont move but the tape measure does, if i dont exercise i eat less anyway, if i exercise i get more hungry and eat more. Guess we are all different, but its all maths really, eat less calories than you burn and the weight will come off.

    Good luck

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

Thanks, everyone for all your responses. I really appreciate it. I'm going to keep exercising, but also make sure that keep to my plan. I guess I just want to "hurry" and lose the weight, but I know it has to be a slow process, or else it won't last.

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

hi.. ok i have to say that i am pro excercise.. you can eat more, it maqkes you stronger, you will be toned.. i include  a weight  lifting program..now at my weight loss goal i can say that at age 56 i do NOT have the jiggly arm thing going, my thighs dont jiggle and i almost have the butt back that i had in my 20s..was it easy?? no.. was it worth it?? yes!!!!truly , if you excercise (and start slow and build up) a year from now, you will be glad you did..its also a great way to relieve stress... and carole is right..its great to see the tape measure move and to see your body re-shape itself..it really is  more than  about the weight..how the weight that you carry is more than pounds..muscle weighs more than fat and you will burn more calories (even while sleeping) if you increase your muscle mass.kathy

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

At first I did not do much exercise at all, just walking in the neighborhood.  When I lost about 20 lbs which went pretty fast, my body felt alot better and then I could exercise.  Before I could not do much yoga because my wrists hurt from my weight.  I could not bend well because my fat got in my way.  I had to huff and puff my way up hills and was pretty disgusted with myself.  I hate the gym and just won't go there, it has to be outside exercise.

Now I've downloaded and organized some playlists on my ipod for exercise.  I go slower when I need to, take breaks when I need to, but I get my butt outside and walk either flats or up hill.  I bought a yoga tape so I could do those exercises in the privacy of my home.  I am feeling so much better, have gone down two sizes, and people are noticing.

Its been 6 months since I've stopped eating foods with sugar, salt etc.  I never ate processed artificial stuff even when I was fat.  Now if I try a piece of chocolate it tastes "funny" to me.  I have not problem being appalled at butter or refusing ice cream.  It really is physical as well as mental.

So yes, you can lose without the exercise, but each day try just a 'little' and before you know you will Want to do more.  Just allow yourself to rate yourself, listen to your body.  Now I can walk up these steep San Francisco hills and when I get to the top, keep going one more.  It is ironic that soon I will be in better shape at age 47 then I was in my 20s and 30s. (well, maybe my 30s).

Thats my story and I'm stick'in to it!

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

I exercise daily, I lose the weight so much faster that way. I do Leslie Sanstones walk away the pounds program. I am up to 4 miles a day. I have also noticed that since starting exercising that I have a lot more energy all the time. My mom doesn't exercise and still losing weight just a lot more slow than I am. So either way I am sure you will lose.

    Re: Exercise VS. No Exercise

     Hi Crystal,

I am new to the program (june 8) and have steadily lost weight. I make a point to exercise each day...if nothing more than a brisk 30 min walk. I think it is important to move your body for all the reasons folks have mentioned. Plus, I think it is good for the mind and spirit, too. Personally, I always feel like I have accomplished something tangible after I exercise which makes me feel more determined and confident that I can do this!  I wish you success.  Add me to your community if you need an exercise buddy. I wouldn't mind the added motivation!  Be well.

    Sharon
