    Need to start...what are you doing

    I am starting my exercise plan tomorrow.  I love the elliptical machine and am planning on doing that 4 times a week.  I am also going to start strength training to tone not to beef up!  I'm wondering what is working for everyone else.  I've heard of people gaining due to exercise - so, I'm a little nervous!  Would love some advice on how to do this.

     Hi Miboca - I also like and use the elliptical a lot.  Easy on the joints and a good workout.  Check with your medical professional and start easy.  According to my scale (a Weight Watchers Scale that tracks body mass, etc.), my percentage of lean body mass has increased and my body fat has declined, but, overall, I've lost weight.  I also feel stronger and healthier.  For me, the changes are gradual and even though I'm still at a large size, I look more toned.  There's a couple of us that post what we're doing on the "Ongoing Daily Exercise Post" in this Healthy Lifestyle area.  Feel free to join us. - Jane

    I've tried to do a combination of cardio and strength training. I do at least a 30 minute cardio workout every day. At the moment I'm really missing my aerobics due to an injury but I'm keeping up with a 3 mile power walk instead. During the warmer months I also like to bike. My philosophy is to pick activities that you love to do and will keep you active. :)

    I just started using this workout video called Turbo Jam, It's actually really run to do, easy, and once you get used to the routines, it gets easier, and you can feel it working your body. I finish my morning session completely sweating, it's a great workout. Definitely recommended.

    I've been using the tredmill, eliptical, and bicycle at the gym. I even go swmming and sometimes run across the pool. lol Not sure how good running across the pool does but i think its a good thing with all that resistance in the water.
