    Brownie night blues

I have been taking Alli now for almost 10 months and have done really great. I am getting close to my 100 lb goal. I have done great staying away from those foods that helped me gain all this weight. That is until this weekend. I honestly don't know what came over me but I learned from it big time. I don't keep sweet snacks around my house. My kids snack on things like fruit and veggies, but 1 night a week I treat them to some home-made brownies. I am trying to teach them that it is okay to have those kind of things from time to time. But not everyday. I have been so proud of myself because I have resisted brownie night for almost 10 months. I don't know why I caved but I ate 3 brownies Friday night and to make matters worse I went straight to bed after. I got on the scale this morning and saw that I have gained back 1 lb. Lesson learned! I am so angry with myself because at this point I should be stronger than I used to be. I started with one but couldn't stop myself there. It took 3 before I realized that I had lost control for the first time since I started this journey. It really scares me because that is how I gained the weight in the first place. I had no control over my urges to eat more than I should. I have learned that if I don't eat those types of foods I am okay. But once I start I have a hard time stopping. I have managed to get myself back together but still angry at myself.

    Re: Brownie night blues

Right on, sister, we all hear you.  I've been doing this for more than two years, and am well aware of that trap.  I mean, really, who can stop at one brownie, (except maybe somebody like Dr. Laura, who weighs about 98 pounds and doesn't have the failings of us mere mortals)?  You are right to worry about it because when I get off track I'm solidly derailed and it is very hard to get back on.  X the brownies cuz you're doing great!

    Re: Brownie night blues

I just got a tip that I wish I had gotten before The brownies. My sister told me that she mixes brownie mix with 3/4 can of diet coke and they turn out great and are only 1g of fat per serving. I think I am gonna start making some of those up for me on brownie night and let everyone else get the other brownies that way I don't feel left out lol.

Hate to burst your bubble but it's not just fat that causes weight gain. Lowering the fat content helps but you still have to consider the amount of carbs in those brownies. Too many carbs can be just as fattening as too much fat.

    Re: Brownie night blues

rdy2lose, you could make them healthier for you family and don't tell them it's made with diet coke.  At one time I heard people were using applesauce as a substitue for the oil and eggs.  Does anyone know how that recipe goes?  I tried the one with the pumpkin..but I can taste the pumpkin (and I don't like pumpkin).  It sounds like you are doing great.  You have stuck with it for 10 months.  One slip up isn't going to derail all of that.  It was good that you caught yourself and didn't eat the whole pan.  You won't gain back all that you have lost from a couple of brownies.  Pat yourself on the back for the terrific job that you have been doing and let the brownie mistake go.  Focus on what you have accomplished. We are only human.  Take care, Lynn

    Re: Brownie night blues

I've substituted applesauce for oil (equal amount) but found that brownie mixes are practically indestructible. I leave the oil out completely, adding a bit more water in addition to the regular amount of water (I add about 2 tablespoons to replace of the 1/4 c. oil called for) , and I replace the whole egg with egg whites. Works fine.
