    Motivation

OK so I have been on Alli for about a month now and have lost 44 pounds. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant but was having no luck. I went to the dr and found out that I have PCOS(polycystic ovarian syndrome) which makes it very VERY difficult to get pregnant plus it also causes the weight I have dealt with my entire life. I also causes elevated blood sugar which is why my O.B. sent me to an endocrinologist. She is the one who suggested ALLI for me. I lost ten pounds my first week on the program, but my husband also added the incentive when I lost 50 pounds I could get a designer handbag...However that is not my true motivation. I want to be a mom more then anything in the world and my nephew who is 4 years old has become my true inspiration. The other day my sister told me that he had asked my brother in law if I had had a baby(he wants a cousin) and his dad told him no but it was hard for me to talk about. My nephew in turn said that he should pray for me and my husband. His mom asked him if he wanted to pray and he set his sandwich down put his hands together and said " Dear God please give Shy and Robbie a baby they really want one Amen." I started crying when she told me that and it is just so amazing what comes out of little kids. They are true and honest and he is my little man no matter what.

    Re: Motivation

    Hi Shay82,

I do hope that you are able to get pregnant. It sounds like you are on the right track. I need to caution you about how quickly you are losing weight. Some people can lose extra weight the first couple of weeks due to water loss, but after that it should slow down a bit. Please make sure that your doctor is monitoring you with this and that you are consuming your recommended amount of calories.

Keep us posted on how things are going,

    Betty Kovacs, MS, RD

    Re: Motivation

Congrats on the weight loss!  I wanted to respond to you because I too have PCOS and I have 2 beautiful little girls.  So don't give up hope!  My first daughter I was able to get pregnant right away but the 2nd took us just over a year.  My OB put me on Metformin and within 2 months of being on that I was pregant with my second daughter.  It helps with your blood sugar which in turn can help with the PCOS symptoms, you may want to talk to your OB about it.

If you ever have any questions, concerns or just want to talk, I am here!  I know how hard losing weight can be and also know the struggles of getting pregant with PCOS.

    Re: Motivation

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I have been really struggling with not getting pregnant. I have been on the metformin, the anti depressants and the provera. The metformin did nothing for my blood sugar it was still elevated and the provera did not help with the cycles. SInce losing this much weight (55 pounds so far) I am going back to the OB on the twenty fourth November to talk to her about starting the meds again and hopefully they will have a better affect and will not mess with my weight loss. If you don't mind if I have any questions regarding PCOS or getting pregnant do you mind if I talk to you. As much as people say they understand, unless they have experienced it themselves they just don't. They don't understand being told that you may never be a mom or having no control over hair growth or weight. It is very frustrating... Again thank you for the encouragement. GOD BLESS

    Re: Motivation

Keep up the great job on the weight loss, hopefully it will not only get you feeling healthy but help with getting pregnant as well.  I am here for any questions you may have but am unsure how much I can help.  I tried earlier to respond to you but my post got rejected.  I am not sure what was said that was against the sites policies.  I wish they had private messaging on here!  Anyways, keep me posted on how you are doing and how your upcoming appt. goes!  Best wishes!!
