Re: Am I doing this right? ATTN: BETTY KOVACS

So let me see if I am understand this... We should not be taking a pill if we are not consuming at least 15 grams of fat in a meal????

I am not consuming even half that in some of my meals. So am I wasting my money and time with Alli and is this why I have stopped losing since starting the pill? I had lost more when I was on the low calorie/low fat way of eating before my "pill" start date. I have now hit a dead stand still in pounds lost. I have 140lbs to lose so I kow I should be seeing some weight coming off even if it is just water weight. I am staying well under my calorie and fat limits but eating good and staying full. Making sure I have protien in ever meal but making it low fat.

I do feel better and seem to think my clothes are fitting differently. I just seem to think if I am at around 1500 calories a day and in between 20 and 40 grams of fat a day I am way below what I was consuming to maintian the weight I am at but now I am not losing and I am very confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After reading this post.

    Please help me understand!

    Re: correct amount of fat?

Thank you for all of your input Betty.  The more I read the more this diet makes sense.  One question regarding your statement.  "consume the correct amount of fat for the optimal calorie savings".  For example if at lunch and supper time I do not consume the "recommended" 15 grams of fat, then am I not benefiting the most amount of calorie savings?.  Is eating too little fat actually causing me to not loose weight as fast?

    Thank you in advance

Re: Am I doing this right?

I was wondering the same thing......my meals generally only have 5-9 grams of fat and my caloric intake is around 1100-1200 per day.  I usually eat a Smart One dinner entree along with some fruit or salad and use the spray salad dressing that has no fat.  Also......sometimes I "forget" to take my pill until after I have eaten.  If I take it within 15 minutes after finishing my meal will I still benefit from taking it?  I don't want to hinder my weight loss by eating too little. I have read in a few threads that you may not lose as quick if you don't get all your calories in.  Is that correct??

Re: Am I doing this right?

I'm going to disagree a little bit, but you are still doing it right. The book says the only time you don't take Alli is if your meal contains no fat. You don't have to eat 15 grams of fat to take it. That is your meal limit and if you go over you may have a treatment effect. The less fat the better.

I would skip it with a 1g of fat meal too.

I replied once but it disappeared?

You are doing it right. The book says the only time you don't take Alli is when your meal contains no fat...I'd skip it if you only have 1g too. You don't have to eat 15 grams of fat to take it. That is just your limit per meal to avoid treatment effects. The less fat the better.

Re: Am I doing this right?

I was under the impression that you took a pill with each of your three main meals and you did not exceed the fat gram per meal (whatever the chart said it was for you) and that Alli would absorb those fat grams that you just ate.  Treatment effects came when by eating over that amount b/c the Alli was being overloaded.  Am I wrong as well?

Re: Am I doing this right?

I've only been taking Alli this week, began Monday, but my meals are not 19 grams of fat, which I'm allowed, so I'm confused too. If I eat 10 to 15 grams of fat in my meal, should I or should I not take Alli. It's way to expensive to waste it. I rarely eat 19 & if I do, it's probably way over there like someone else said.

    Thanks

Re: Am I doing this right? ATTN: BETTY KOVACS

Yes from what I have read on this board, you have to eat around 15 grams of fat for Alli to do any good, SO if you are eating a low or no fat breakfast then skip the pill and wait for the next meal.

I already eat low and or no fat so I only take a pill when I know I am upwards of 15grams. Actually on My Alli plan it tells me I can have 19 per meal. I know I would probably have "effects" if I did that.

So I am thinking that if I eat low/no fat the pill will do nothing for me, I will save the pills for times when I am eating 10 or more grams of fat. I am on Weight Watchers so will not show any big numbers as far as loosing not at one time anyway.

This pill binds with fat only and will get 25% of the fat you eat out of you and trust me it works. I ate 2 tacos the other night, it most certainly works.

Betty also said you can take the pill when you eat or up to one hour after to cover that meal. I think thats a good thing so if you see you went over or up to 15gr then take the pill, it will remove that 25% of fat from you.

I have 75 pounds to loose and have 25 off so far, this I have acheived with WW.

Re: Am I doing this right? ATTN: BETTY KOVACS

I see all these posts re not consuming many fats.  I too consume very few  fats with all the no fat foods that one eats.  I haven't started Alli pills yet although I have had them since they came on the market and am wondering if I need to.  Where is the reply to these questions re low fat intake?

I think Betty made a major faux pas with her statement about the "at least 15 grams of fat."  Perhaps that's why she hasn't been back on this discussion board to answer the questions????

Re: Am I doing this right? ATTN: BETTY KOVACS

I so hope you are right.....otherwise many people are wasting there money on this pill.   I take the pill with anything over 5 or 6 grams of fat.  I have lost 8 lbs since June 18th.

    ATTN: PROFANN

"I think Betty made a major faux pas with her statement about the "at least 15 grams of fat."  Perhaps that's why she hasn't been back on this discussion board to answer the questions????"

THANK YOU so much for posting this! I've been so frustrated reading these boards and having all of these ladies thinking that they are doing it wrong. The directions in the Blue Companion book on page 36 clearly states that if your meal contains NO FAT AT ALL then, you should not take Alli.

The pharmacist also agrees in her answer to the same question on the "Ask the pharmacist" board.

I hope Betty clears this up for everyone.

    Re: ATTN: PROFANN

I'm bumping up this thread because I don't think any of our concerns have been addressed yet.

Betty, when you have a moment, please add a response the all of the questions about NOT consuming over 15gms of fat (and other low fat meal questions) - as to whether Alli will still have a positive effect.

If I bottom line all of our concerns here, there are two main questions that we would answers to:

    1.  If we eat meals that are 15gms of fat or well under, do we still take the pill to get any benefit?

    2. Does the pill absorb 25% of both the fat and calories we eat regardless of what our meal consists of?

    Thanks so much!

    Presschick

PS. Please keep bumping this thread if responses are still slow. My main complaint is that our posts take up to 3 days to show up!!!!
