I love how you're dieting and then you give your kids McDonalds. When I have kids I won't bring them to fast food places. My parents didn't. Spare them the need to take diet pills in the future.

Do you realize what you said?!  You won't take your kids to fast food places, your parents didn't, and it will spare children from having to take diet pills in the future...Your parents didnt take you but yet YOU ARE taking diet pills anyway!  Did I miss something?

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

As long as you stick to your fat gram maximum you can eat anywhere. I ate at McDonald's. small fry and 4 nuggets and am fine.  With regards to "Super Size Me" he was eating crazy, supersizing almost every meal, having tons of  coke and whatnot. He was eating like 2,000 calories at ever meal 3 times a day. Yeah if you over do it you would end up like him.  I saw a woman on the Today show and she lost 90 lbs,  just eating at McDonald's.  So it can be done it is all about choices.

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

We do have to set the examples for our children, and that includes eating in the real world....and in our real world there is fast food.  THANKFULLY most places now have much better choices than they did when I grew up (and we didn't go very often either, it was 20 miles away back then, not around the corner).

I have seen those shows and they do make an impact, however, not long after that a woman did the exact same thing....eating at McD's and lost weight, she did it to show that you can make better choices at fast food...of course that didn't get the same press coverage.

Of course I am not saying to diet at McD's....of course not.  Just that one thing we need to learn and to teach our children that it is all about making good choices and moderation.

I think it was also overlooked that this trip to McD's was a WALK to McD's....CONGRATS!!

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

I haven't been sticking to the diet as I should.  Definately not eating as bad as I have in the past, but not as good as the menu plans.  I haven't had treatment effects except for the oily discharge, but I have yet to take the pill three times in one day as I am having issues with eating 3 meals a day.  Breakfast usually ends up being a banana or some type of fruit.  So maybe the TE are not as bad when you are not taking all three.  I need to work on my eating habits.

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

Let's remember our manners here....I'm sure our parents taught us that too along with healthy eating......you'd be offended if someone questioned why you are on Alli since you had such a self righteous upbringing........food for thought.

We all love our children to the best of our abilities....a little McDonald's, a little later bedtime, a walk in the warm summer rain without a raincoat...the only rules to raising children is to love them....not play the message board police preaching fire and brimstone and the "if I ever have children" sermon.

Support and love to all Alli users!

GREAT Villa973 - and I wonder along with the self-righteous fast food sermon and the 'my kids won't . . . " this writer is also making claims like:  MY kids won't throw tantrums in the supermarket . . . "  Didn't we all have those claims BC (before children)?  LOL

My support also to all of the "human" Alli users.

be very careful the effect will show up, wear a pad far back in your underwear, I had garlic bread it was really greasy and 24 hours later I had a mess on my hands.  I will never eat that again. but on a good note I have been on alli for 2weeks and lost 12 lb it works.

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

Just wanted to help give you a boost...I started two weeks ago today..I went on weight watchers at the same time...as of this mornings weigh-in..I have lost 13lbs..I  do go walking and swimming and I don't cheat with fatty foods..I make fat free brownies for my treat and I cut way down on my portion size.  I now weigh 164 but need to get down to 130 so I have a ways to go but it does work..The biggest thing I tell myself is, I didn't put this weight on over night and I don't expect it to come off that quick either..but while I am sure that a lot of the 13lbs was water weight, it is still weight...I have had only two times with treatment effects and one was with spaghetti with meat sauce..now I cut down on the amount of meat that I use and I rinse the hamburger before I add it to the sauce..Other than that I have been pretty good. Hope this helps!  I find that weight watchers is a great diet to be on because you still eat regular food, it just helps you make better choices with amount and kinds of food.

    Good Luck,  Margail

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

I think that anyone who actually has kids remembers how optimistic we all were before our kids were born.  "I'll make their baby food myself" or "I'll only feed them organic..." But then we actually had kids and realized that there's a reason that McDonald's has served over a billion and that sometimes convenience foods are your friend.  A lot of us are probably taking Alli because we're parents and didn't take the time to exercise or eat as well as we should.  If you actually look at the nutrition info on a lot of the salads that they sell at McDonald's and other fast food joints you'll notice that it's not much better than some of the burgers, so be careful!  I will get a grilled chicken sandwich from where ever I am indulging my kids and it's generally lower in fat and cals than the salad.  But the fries are a definate "no-no", unless you're just snagging one or two from the kids!  That way you can fulfull your craving without living too dangerously.  I just feel like people are being too judgemental about her choosing to eat two cheeseburgers and fries.  WE ALL have our weaknesses and they're all just as evil.  And we also have to remember that we're talking possible side effects, some people won't be as sensitive while others will get the TE's even if they are pretty strict with themselves.

And I totally agree, if you never had fast food and you aren't going to let your future children eat out then what's your excuse?  Why are you even here if you're so superior in your eating habits?  And spare us the thyroid or the injured back excuses, we've all tried/heard them.  This is the place where we are suppposed to be honest and supportive, not judgemental or critical.

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

Fast food isn't always a bad thing! I'm a pre-dentistry, molecular and cellular biology major in college. And like most college kids, I'm pinching pennies. So McDonald's can be your friend when you are studying, have no time to cook, and can get a meal for around $3. I always get a chicken nugget Happy Meal or Mighty Kids Meal with bbq sauce, apple dippers and either a water or Hi-C orange. That's around 300 calories for about $3. Good deal if you ask me! Also it's helpful to look on the websites of your favorite restaurants/fast food places for the nutrition information (calories, fat grams, ingredients, allergy information, etc.) This is relatively new since last year the FDA made it mandatory for this information to be available to consumers. You can also ask at the restaurant and they will provide you with a paper version. It really helps when you know what you're eating! It will save you time & calories! So salad eaters can see that their "healthy salad" is actually loaded with sugar, sodium, & about 800 calories! Beware of those creamy dressings! A regular old hamburger is a better choice!

P.S.- "Supersize Me" was an actual scientific experiment done using the scientific method. That is why it caused such a big stir. Because it was science. Anyone can go and order a big mac everyday. This guy actually saw a nutritionist who advised him on what to order. He also had conditions to meet, including ordering everything on the menu at least once! So he even ate the healthier choices. (including those fruit & yogurt parfaits that have a ton of calories in them!! reiterating the even if it looks healthy that doesn't mean it is idea) And he only supersized his meal when he was asked to. Which was only 7 or 8 times out of 90 meals (not as much as you'd think!)

    Re: McDonald's & Alli

People who don't have kids shouldn't judge. If you teach your kids good eating habits, then they can make the right decisions no matter where they eat. You are wrong to make such a blanket statement. Your parents should have taught you manners too.
