    Hair Loss?

Has anyone else experienced any hair loss? It's not coming out in handfuls, just more than usual when I brush my hair or wash it. My hair is thick so it isn't noticable, however it is quite a bit of hair that's coming out. Now if I have do deal with my hair falling out, why couldn't it have come off my legs instead?! lol Then I wouldn't be complaining!! haha   Anyway, just wondering if this was happening to anyone else, and why.

    Re: Hair Loss?

It is interesting to hear! I seem to be "shedding" hair a bit more than normal. I too have quite thick hair so the loss isn't noticible on my head, just on my brush, shower floor, etc....

I recently had a baby so I thought maybe it was my hormons going crazy, but now I am not so sure knowing it is happening to others.

    Re: Hair Loss?

aserpa, is this your first baby?  During pregnancy, the prenatal vitamins and all the extra stuff my body held on to for the baby made my hair fall out less, it was thicker and curlier than usual.  Then after the baby was born, the hormones and the fact that my hair had not fallen out for at least 6 months, it started all coming out like crazy.  It got to the point about a year after where I could tell where I had new hair coming in right around my face and at the nape of my neck if I put my hair in a ponytail.  The same thing happened with my 2nd child too...

    Re: Hair Loss?

I went from 152 to 120 lbs, (I'm only 4'10) two years ago.  About 2 months into the diet my hair began to rapidly fall out.  I believe it was the change in my diet.  I had cut down drastically on my fats and proteins.  I don't believe it's the Alli, but a side effect of the dieting itself.

I tried using hair products like Nioxin, but found they were a waste of money.  Once my dieting leveled off and I began maintenance, the hair loss stopped.  :  )

Hope this helps and good luck!!

    Re: Hair Loss?

    Hi Doris,

If your hair loss is diet related you can do something about it. Be sure that you are not losing more than 1 to 3 lbs per week. You also want to get an adequate amount of all of your nutrients in your diet, including protein, carbohydrates and fat. Do not go too high or too low in any of them. Lastly, take your multivitamin every night, at least 2 hours after your meal.

    Good luck,

    Re: Hair Loss?

I have not experienced hair loss with Alli but I wanted to post because I had the problem years ago.  I had started a very strenous diet and exercise program (which worked in the end but I couldn't keep with it so here I am again).  I started losing hair so severely that big chunks were running down my legs in the shower.  I mentioned it one night to my fitness trainer and we were able to target that I was not getting nearly enough protein for the amount of exercise I was doing.

Since Alli is associated with dieting and, probably increased exercise, I just wanted to point out that you might want to look at your protein intake and see if boosting that helps.  I used protein shakes and supplements at the time, and shifted my food to have more protein and less other things, and the hair came back despite continuing the strict diet and exercise program.  Just a suggestion - hope it helps someone!

    Re: Hair Loss?

I am 48 and I did Alli last fall till Dec. and started up again a month ago, I lost 25lbs the first time - gained 15 back. Now I have lost 8lbs. I do not know if my receding hairline and hair loss is due to dieting, illness or menopause-age. I have-had all three. The women in my family have not had any hair loss that I know of.  So I am thinking it may be a nutritional thing overall.  My doc just checked my thyroid and a few other things out and I checked out ok for everything.  I did some online nutrition vitamin & herbal research. It may be possible I have a low omega 3 fat issue going on which is needed to transport fat soluble vitamins (Herb Companion article) oxygenate cell tissues.  I know you have to take a Vitamin every night w/ Alli, so Vitamin loss is not an issue such as K.  On line they said vitamins A D E & K are fat soluble vitamins.  So maybe I need additional vitamins.  They recommend a little of flaxseed 2-4 tablespoons or 1 tablespoon of the oil or fish oil would be ok too.  Wonder if that would help to take that at night with the vitamins to help transportation - absorbs ion of them. I was thinking a hair vitamin supplement might be good addition to try for me too.  The article said B-Vitamins, Zinc, Iron, Silicic Acid and Horse Tail Herb aid hair health. They also said Saw Palmetto berry helped fight DHT – a testosterone baldness issue   I don’t know if this info will help anyone but I spent some time searching - reading about it and I am passing it on in case anyone wants to look into this too or try additional supplements as I am.
